Immortal never disappoints, they only release good albums. Even the lesser albums are pretty damn good
This album is good. It easily beats Abbath's solo work.
The album is great,of course, but does it feel a bit weird getting it in May? It seems like an Immortal album should only be released in the dead of winter.
I hope this album finally shuts up the fans who keep saying there is no Immortal without Abbath. Clearly Demonaz has always had a strong input even when he wasn't able to play with them.
All he is doing is using abbath riffs.
I just love a good band that has a theme and sticks to it. You'd think that after 30 years hearing songs about Vikings fighting demons in a Hyperborean fantasy realm it would be tiring, but Demonaz is such a good storyteller that it never gets old
i doubt its a good idea to call it a hyperborean fantasy realm because ur basically calling it defined by the mythology taken over from a certain ww2 ideology.
@@BatsAndBadgers Hyperborea is actually Greek. Luke the Swastika, the historical Aryans, Nietzsche, Wagner, and Odinism they just stole something that wasn't theirs and ruined it because that's what those people do. If you want to come up with a different name for the "Land beyond the North Wind" then feel free. As for me, I choose to reclaim the ancient name for its original intent
Northern Chaos Gods had better hooks for me. In this one, the mix felt closer to 90s Immortal. I liked it a lot and will be listening to it on repetition this winter. Greetings from Chile.
Amazing album. Prob their best since SOND.
SOND was the first immortal album I listened to and tbh my fav black metal album of all time.
Waw! And Northern Chaos Gods was an axlwielding megastorm! I will check this one, for sure!
I agree with your review, I like this album better than their last one. I like the intense Death Metal elements in "Thunders of Darkness", which makes me want to hear a full Death Metal album from Harald, he should bring back Amputation, re record the old song or make new one, that should be interesting.
I really enjoyed this album. 4/5 for me.
Nice review Sam, and those are some great shout outs. I am loving the latest album from Vintersea.
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying those! 🤘🏽
I bought it...that says enough.
For me nothern chaos gods is a lot better, i dont know this sounds flat to me... it feels like the natural sequel to the previous album but not as good
Can't say anything about this record yet.
But I myself is glad Demonaz is steering the ship instead of clown Abbath.. Things went so shit from At the heart of winter and all albums after that.
Really did miss Demonaz riffs on the albums where Abbath did play guitar.
Blizzard beasts was their last really great album. Always thought of it as Morbid Angel on speed. But Battles in the north was a huge black metal masterpiece.
Taste is a matter of opinion. Quality in riffs and executing them is not. Hail Demonaz!
Steering them in right direction,by using abbath riffs?
Much love BANGER Family!!! Hope all is well and thanks for another great video
This album is a great one. Add in my top 10.
Good to see you back! You guys are missing a lot of great albums to review lately!
They are coming soon.
Thanks! Good to be back 🤘🏽
I think it's an okay album. The last three tracks are the highlight for me, but I would give 3.5 out of 5, it's not even close to a 4.5... The first five songs are just okay, not really that impressive, and I'm a massive Immortal fan
It seems like there is a fight between Immortal fans on Northern Chaos Gods and War Against All. Some fans love Northern Chaos Gods more and some love War Against All more. I am a fan that is digging War Against All more. Idk what is going, but I have seen this battle going on with fans with their last two albums. Can we all agree that metal changes peoples lives for the better?
Anyone who wants a companion pice to War Against All, I hghly reocmmend Necofier's album Burning Shadows in the Southern Night.
Yea I really dug this one. Sure Sam will too. See some not so positive stuff bout it. But. To each their own. 🤘🏽👿
I loved it James! 🤘🏽
Jesus. Sam's been working out!
Haha yes i have been 💪🏽
I love immortal. My first and favorite album is "sons of Northern darkness" 🤘😎👍
First time I listen to an immortal record, pretty decent album even if I understand the line up is not the same, got to listen the old ones I guess, thanks for your work
Immortal is the band that happens when The Others/White Walkers decide to play music.
I would put this album on top of Sons of Northern Darkness. I love listening too
Personally, I felt there were a few songs on Northern Chaos Gods that sounded way too much like other songs on the very same album. But most of the songs were pretty distinct so you could forgive the filler/rehash as it was pretty sparing. What I've heard from War Against All sounds like rehashes of songs mainly from Northern Chaos gods, with a few other rehashes from other albums. It seems to me we're kinda getting diminishing returns on the songwriting at this point, but I've not spent enough time with it to say that conclusively. I do miss Abbath's more distinctive riffs though. Demonaz and Abbath have very reciprocal musical chemistry despite whatever personal issues they've got going on, and while they're both good doing their own thing, I think they're much better than the sum of their parts together tbh. But maybe I'm somewhat biased as I only really listen to Immortal albums from Heart of Winter onwards. I know it's not very kvlt, but I like good production because I like hearing the details in the instrumentation and arrangements. I'm a guitarist after all *shrugs*
Nice very nice, does it feel like metal has been gentrified? Music its great as always. Good review
I preferred Northern Chaos Gods, but what stood out to me is that this album sounds noticeably more similar to the late Abbath era, eg SOND. I don't think that Battles or Blizzard Beasts are great comparisons, though you can definitely hear a through line in all of Immortal's faster material going back that far. Demonaz is responsible for a lot of continuity in their sound even when he wasn't able to play guitar.
No he wasn't.. abbath wrote all the music..he only did lyrics..all this is later immortal abbath riffs
I would have loved a more detailed review, you were pretty in a rush Sam!! I understand the review he did but for me this is in last tier quality of their discography sharing the bottom position with Blizzard beasts and All Shall Fall. Question of feelings I guess
I disagree, think this album is on my list of most disappointed albums of the year list.
Is a good album, bt some of the songs sound very similar, specifically that song that’s sounds exactly the same as Tyrants 😏
I think the last album was better and more variety on it.
I'm not a big Black metal fan, but I do enjoy some of it like Darkthrone and Immortal. I really enjoy this album, it's not as fast or evil sounding as some of their previous stuff, but it makes up for it by being epic and catchy.good job Demonaz!
Solid album, sounds exactly as you would expect. Which is both good and bad
Is that a really upset, skeletal owl on the cover?
I thought it might be the lich king from WoW
amazing album I have it on vinyl 🙂🤘
I actually can't stand Black Metal unless it's mixed with another sub genre. It just always seemed kind of silly to me. But the new Cattle Decapitation is probably the best album of the year and you said like 2 words about it. Hmmmmm.
Immortal has become a cover band of immortal.
This album is definitely in my top ten for this year. Can’t wait for the next cannibal album though. That and the new king diamond.
Nice eclectic taste
King Diamond? In 2023? I really hope so...
Been a fan since Pure Holocaust, they have become so predictable its sad.
A downward spiral since At the Heart of Winter.
*Since All Shall Fall*, after Abbath left is when the band became eh.
Always like your reviews. Think this album was alright (this from an At The Heart Of Winter/Sons Of Northern Darkness fan). Yeah, and the new Cattle Decap rips.
Oh hell yes at both! 🤘🏽
At least Abbath can play live. This guy does not because of Carpal Tunnel so we will not get any live versions of this Immortal. Abbath and Horde should go out as Abbath's Immortal.
I like Sam A. He tries & is into what he’s into. Decent review & good reviewer.
Thank you Phillip! Appreciate it 🙏🏽
You the man sir & keep up all that hard work!
Please stop playing the first track played on every transition, it makes you hate the riff.
It happens 4 times 5 seconds each time, get a grip its called production value bud.
@@BangerTV let em know 😤
Love this album🤘🔥😎🇳🇴
Mhh, maybe i should give the album a few more chances, i like Wargod and Return to Cold but overall i found the record to be preeetty boring - compared to the 1999-2003 era which i really love. :)
Best album since "Blizzard Beasts" All Hail Mighty Demonaz 🤘
Really? And Load is the best Metallica album, right?
@djfarenji4989 ride the lightning is best Metallica
Why are all the reviews from earlier in the month lately? I haven't seen a review about a same day release in a while. I've already got and listened to this album WHEN IT CAME OUT. Maybe Banger just needs to hear and read others' reviews before they can make a decision. .5 out of 5 skills for me on timeliness.
It’s because we just released 8 episodes of heavy metal hitchhiker while still respecting the albums our Patreon community want reviewed. Better late then not at all.
@@BangerTV I can appreciate that. Didn't even think the show would pull the talent away like it has. Thank you for the reply. Didn't mean to come off as an Ass, was really just curious and doing that thing we all do: making assumptions. Thank you again
❤
More Sam Astaroth reviews please!
Thank you Murray 🤘🏽
2 skulls, I'll take Cattle over Immortal
Cattle's new album is a masterpiece but War Against All is good too
Cattles last album kind of sucked, so I haven't even listened to this one yet. Should probably get round to it.
A decent album but it’s always hard to not hear Abbath on vocals after so long
I disagree, NCG kicks this album’s ass track to track. This one felt typical and a little bland
A bot!!
It's just recycled abbath riffs..
It's a good effort, but no Abbath, no Immortal.
Last 2 albums have been lacking that extra umph and Abbath added that extra spice to the concoction. And the guy was funny as fuck.
3 out of 5 stars.
Could be better.
Very generic album in my opinion.
Trve kvlt hates bass!
It's Cold AF!!
Banger of an album 🤘🔥deathstars new album is also very good!
