I got several mini amps, the way I use them is by plugin the headphone output direct in my interface and using a cab simulator in my daw. I can tell it sounds amazing!
I've had all 4 amps. IMO Blackstar is the only one that sounds like a real amp. The other 3 have no low end at, which isn't unexpected for the size, it's just that the Fly3 really tops them all.
Huh. Have you tried the mini fender tone master. Surprising to me that the blackstar is superior, I feel like they usually put out pretty shit products imo.
If youre looking for a fat vintage sound and jazzy tone,go for the orange but if you want a more modern sound,go for the blackstar Personaly,I like the orange as it lets me play anything from hendrix to sabbath and you can even get a modern sound with it if you hook up a dist pedal.
It really depends on application. All 4 sound great. The Blackstar has the most modern sound and the Fender has the most dated sound. I like each for different things. I like the Marshall for its girth. I like the Fender for its definition within the distortion. I like the Orange for pure anger. The Blackstar has the best clean tone. I'm gonna stock them all in my studio. I think several would sound good to re-amp in pairs. Thanks for throwing a sm57 in front of these things. Every other video out there isn't miking them properly so you really can't get the full definition. So happy to find this demo. Very very very helpful!
I own the Marshall and the Fender, and recently purchased the Blackstar. I can't speak for the Orange, but the Marshall and the Fender are pretty much toys compared to the Blackstar. The Fly 3's sound is miles ahead of the Marshall and the Fender's, both clean and dirty. Plus the Fly 3 has built in delay (that is actually sounds good), has an AUX line in so you can jam along with your favorite MP3s, and takes pedals VERY well.
What talent you are blessed with, that was fabulous! Finally, after listening to many other videos comparing small amps, I’ve decided on the Blackstar!!! You made that little box sing!!! Love your playing!
I actually bought the BlackStar Fly 3 without knowing how great it was. I thought as long as I had something portable and loud enough for a small room and the tone sounded very pleasant, that was enough. It wasn't until I took it out to play and was blown away by it. I've tried the Orange before and am impressed by the raw power it puts out but apart from that, it still feels raw, doesn't really make me want to keep playing on it. I think comparing the Orange to the BlackStar really isn't fair because the BlackStar really is alot more refined. You should test the Pignose amp vs BlackStar instead. I never tried a Pignose before, anyone here owns one or has tried it before, care to give some comments? I just might get the Pignose too cause I love the classic leather look. Lol.
pignose amps are a fuzz pedal with a speaker attatched. Sleep, high on fire, and tons of bands use them live ran into their rigs as a preamp. They get really dirty when cranked. Think of it as a voxxy / blues jr bluesy sound. bright tone that fuzzes out as it gets cranked or driven with hot pickups, an od, whatever
I gotta believe the Blackstar has them all beat. The Fender comes in 2nd for me. Great guitar playing from our host. The Orange sounds good miked up but on its own sounds very muddy.
I have the Orange one, is excellent, i used it on a radio interview to play with my band in a ""acoustic" format. The blackstar here sounds great. The order can it be: Blackstar>Orange>>>Fender>>>>>>>Marshall
All sound pretty good. It really just depends on your ear and the style of music you want to play.... For best all around I would go with the Blackstar.
I own a Marshall MS2. It reminds me of my little transistor radio I once had when I was a teenager way back in the 70s. The sound sucks, the plastic casing vibrates and so on. If you expect to record using this amp, forget it. I heard the Blackstar is really good. Got to check it out.
I bought the BlackStar for my daughter and gave her my PRS SE Custom 22. I was babysitting her dog and played for 3hrs on it at her house. Then I bought 1 for me. These videos really help for people who do research b4 buying like me. THR10X,Friedman Runt 20,Tweed Bassbreaker 15 ,Katana 50. All great for different usages. Ty for the help!
UA-cam resampling and listening through PC speakers won't do reviews like this any favors. In person, the Orange impresses more. It has a bigger and heavier paper cone speaker in a wood cabinet, and easily outperforms the Blackstar which has a small radio speaker in a plastic cabinet. The Blackstar sounds like a small BT speaker - i.e. good for reproducing midrange and backing tracks faithfully, but not so good for being the second half of your instrument. (I have both)
Never played through this little Crush, but I've played through it's bigger brothers and the Fly 3 blows them out of the water, so I'm sure this little guy doesn't hold a candle to the Blackstar in person. The Blackstar sounds amazing as a guitar amp.
you can gig live with the blackstar its headphone out is also cab emulated, sounds awesome through the PA. It's not ment for a gig but works really well.
I've owned a Blackstar for a while, I also got the extension cab, it's superb for home use. You can also play your iTunes through it........ jam-tastic.
i have the marshall (the ms4, "fullstack" version with 2 speakers) and i don't really like it's sound very much, that's why use my "not so compact" roland microcube for portable amplification. the blackstar sounds wicked, if it ain't too expensive, i think i'm gonna buy it.
The Marshal was one of the first micro amps released back when its name, looks, and novelty were all they needed to enter the micro amp marketing race shortly followed by Fender's offering. Today it can't keep up with the pack as all Marshal has done in their laziness is make occasional cosmetic changes. The Blackstar Fly is one of the newest, possibly THE newest "micro" amp on the market of the four here and seems consciously designed to be taken seriously and make the competition look and sound lame. To be fair, most were designed to do one thing well, something like the famous Pignose. I'll say the Fender and Orange are tied for Second Place. The evolution of guitar gear can be like an arms race. Marshall made their money by being the first company there but clearly aren't willing to do what it takes to stay on top of the Micro Amp Market. They seem focused on bigger ticket items.
I've heard the Blackstar fly in a music shop, it was sat on the counter as an impulse buy like you get in shops with the little chocolate arrangement at the till. Cause i guess impulse buys for guitarists are 50£. Anyway i ask the counter jockey "Whats that thing?" knowing already how bad the Marshall was i thought nothing of it. He said "Ah ill show you", with a grin. He plugged in and Fook me that thing is nice, has some nice tones but its loud and solid too if you need it. In summary, Its good for wakes, quiet times of reflection and those bathroom breaks when you need just a little something to blot out the anguished squawks of yesterdays trifle. My only hope being that your flush, like mine is strong enough to make all the other amps in this range disappear like the manufacturers know they probably should. Also side note; Lettuce and peanuts?
Blackstar sounded best here as an all around practice amp. Blackstar sounds really good especially if you are not hellbent on nailing perfectly someone else’s specific tone. They have always been a good, affordable option. Only thing is that they never came out with a high end tone monster that gained popularity like Friedman. Then later Boss Katana came swooping in to take over the affordable amp market. Nowadays I hardly ever hear people talk about Blackstar as their affordable grab and go amp or as their serious gigging tone machine. Blackstar makes solid stuff though regardless and they’ll still be around as a solid choice for many years. Just my opinion.
I like the danelectro honey tone mini amp that is on the shelf right next to all these other mini Amps at the guitar store because it sounded the best and was the cheapest. after listening to these examples I would get the orange or the black star, but for the process that these go for New in the store I wouldn't buy any of em because I have bought all tube gigging amps for the same price, for example I bought an old jcm600 head with the 1960A cabinet for$400.00 and then sold the cabinet to guitar center for $350.00 Soo I only paid $50.00 for a monster 60 watt Marshall all tube el34 head. that just can't go won't there. but thanks again for your sound samples videos. great playing btw on the BlackStar fly 3 .
I have both the fly 3 + extension cab amps bass and guitar and I can honestly say that they are both worth the money as I use them both over my bigger amps.
This was great for me. I might be getting a guitar soon and so I need an amp. This is great for noobs that need a cheap amp but still want good sound. Thanks!!
I'm definitely looking at getting the Orange myself. The Blackstar sounds really, really good, but I'm not sure they're available here in Canada (at least not through any of the bigger retailers, that I know of, unless that's changed recently) and I generally don't like buying online. The local music store has the Orange in stock right now, so it seems like the best option. The Fender's distortion is way, way too fizzy for my tastes. The Marshall... just didn't sound good. If I could get the Blackstar, I would. Hell, I'd even record with the damn thing. For real.
I’m surprised you didn’t check out the Pignose 7-100. That one is so good that people still use it as a recording amp even though it came out in the ‘70s. Frank Zappa recorded all of his “Over-Nite Sensation” and “Apostrophe” albums with an SG straight into a pignose.
Blackstar sounds more like it's for traditional metal, the fender sounds like a proper blues amp, and the marshall sounds like it'd be best for blues/vinyl rock styles
@@dimitrisaivaliotis5616 oh yeah its a great looking little amp, obviously it doesn't sound as good as a Princeton Reverb or blues deluxe or something but yeah happy with the sound, just a fun little amp and looks great!

Yo my man these videos are sick! I love the way you review every product the way you do and your playing even more! That being said I can't find any good comparison for amps in the $100 ball park including a wide selection or brands ( Fender, orange, blackstar, Vox and Marshall). the orange has pretty amazing clean sound.
I own the blackstar since 1 month and it's amazing... Sound is great for home and even for small room (during lesson, for instance)...

All 4 sound great? Are you selling these or something? Lol
Thanks for this! I was teetering between the orange micro and the Backstar - and I just bought the Backstar :) Great review dude!

Blackstar all the way. Only one that gets to sound like a real thing.
Yes!
I think I'm going to go buy that blackstar right now!!!
Black star takes pedals nicely!!!

Orange Crush absolutely, fullest sound!

Now compare the the Honeytone, Roland and the Vox also. And, what effects are you using...

blackstar is definitely the best in clean and overdrive. And i comes with way more features
I put the fender on my desk. Best looking for sure. Black star wins though. It sounded great
I liked 'em all! But Blackstar seems the most fun, and appears to be a UA-cam bedroom guitar player fave.
I've owned a Blackstar for a while, I also got the extension cab, it's superb for home use. You can also play your iTunes through it........ jam-tastic.
thanks for the awesome comparison, straight to the point. buying Blackstar after see this!
I have the blackstar and a few other mini amps.. BLACKSTAR FOR THE WIN!
I got the black star amp about a year ago and use it a lot definitely worth the buy

thank you! had not seen the black Star at any local places and had not heard of it. standout for me anyways.

blackstar hands down

Merci pour le test, Excellent le petit Blackstar ! ;)
the black star has the best sound and features of this lot. wow.
i love this dude. also blackstar wins, orange comes second.
Blackstar begins at 9:58
I have both the fly 3 + extension cab amps bass and guitar and I can honestly say that they are both worth the money as I use them both over my bigger amps.
8:59 Playing Basket Case? Nice video by the way, might get the Fly 3 :D
You again !!! Nice guitar playing I love your reviews

If you're willing to pay the shipping, I think most of the big US retailers ship to Canada. The Blackstar is definitely worth every penny.
I think the Blackstar has the most inspiring sounds
I use the Orange in the studio a fair bit it's great for overdriven stoner rock distortion at low volume... not so good for clean tones.
Amazing guitar playing mate good vid

*INTENSE SHREDDING*
I go for orange... Blackster has delay but considering value price and tone orange is best in either way.

Blackstar sounds more like it's for traditional metal, the fender sounds like a proper blues amp, and the marshall sounds like it'd be best for blues/vinyl rock styles
nice demo but I've just bought the Marshall MS4. The Blackstar Fly3 was on my list but due to the price I have to go for the cheaper one.
Blackstar is awesome, and with more tones, for the price !!!
i dont like their larger amps, but blackstar for the win on the minis
That Fender looks so cool ! I actually just ordered it as soon as I saw it! Hoping it sounds pretty decent too...
Hi
Any thoughts about that fender?
@@dimitrisaivaliotis5616 oh yeah its a great looking little amp, obviously it doesn't sound as good as a Princeton Reverb or blues deluxe or something but yeah happy with the sound, just a fun little amp and looks great!
@@mrtambourineman6107 Thank you my friend!
Thanks for the video brotha!
Well done, ranking is dead on....bstar hands down!
Magic Bliss, my humble ear hears Blackstar, Orange, Tweed, and finally Marshall.

Black Berry99 🤭
Should've played fortunate song
Great video thanks! When you start the delay on the Blackstar, what song are you playing?
Idk its between the orange and the blackstar the orange feels like a more well rounded sound
Is it possible to achieve a "metal" sound on Orange without increasing the volume too much (keeping it quiet) ? I am asking this because instructions says that "Volume controls the distortion gain. Turning it clockwise increases the distortion..."
Tahi Reu The same says with Marshall unfortunately.
The only thing I needed to close the deal on the Blackstar was your Hourglass riff @16:00 _\m/
Yeah, I like the Marshall never tried they orange,, sounds great, like the Blackstar
I want the orange simply for the ext cab out for a backup just in case my real rig takes a crap ,by the sound of it the BS would take it if it had that option

wow . blackstar ampli. this sound very nice. .clean sound cool
The thing is he's using a mic to amplify the sound but that greatly changes its core sound... there's no real way knowing with this method. Not like without it is too much better but we can't hear that raw sound anymore. Kind of tough here.
Orange 🍊
Even uses wood construction, idk about you but that's way better for tone
And fender was garb, comment in progress xD
Orange or blackstar O.O Fender and marsh and garb
You're never getting effects at a campfire but you can ear tune, and clip on tune your guitar
I think blackstar has it
Fender also sounds tinny
Outstanding!!!
I think if I was Stuart Little I would choose the Blackstar then probably the Orange.
So, if you want a really clean sound with the orange amp, you have to keep it pretty quiet? I want to get it but I'm afraid I'll have to listen to it quite low.
What about the vox mini 5?
I have the orange 9volt battery I can plug it into an external speaker and it sounds great I can play it in my van while my wife is shopping
Wow...loved your review man! Really need to get this Fly amp! Although I'm a huge marshall fan...but boy...this blackstar thing rocks! :-) thanks! :-)
This guy fuckin rocks

it's easy to tell from the battery source which is going to perform better: The Blackstar uses 6x AA, the other amps use a single PP3/6F22 battery. More Amps (Amperes) available => Better Amp (Amplifier).
Hi
Intresting!!!!!
But if I don't want battery?
Which one?
Back to the front!
The Orange has closer to a Marshall sound than the mini-Marshall
Does anyone know the first song that is being played when the Marshall is turned up full?
HA your spacing out bit cracked me up. thanks.
I guess you might not heard about the VOX AC2 Rhythm Box
Juan Carlos Lopez Yes we've heard of it...we did not have stock for it at the moment we were shooting this comparison
The blackstar would be a lot better with a pre-amp running into it
