Loved Zay. Not only was he good(when healthy) on the field but he was a calming voice in that locker room. He was always positive even when he was dealing with personal stuff. I think that domestic case last year and the nagging injury is why they tried to trade him in the draft. He's gone now but I'll never forget the absolute clutch plays he made for us. Some are gonna be in our future top plays of all time reels for sure🤟

It's easier said to not get emotionally attached to players. Losing Rayshawn hurt for me,...but it's the nature of the business I guess. I think this Season will be extra special.

@@rokit430 Agreed. I liked Rayshawn too because he was aggressive but he went rogue too often and would miss wrap up opportunities. But just like with Zay hes got some highlights here that we won't forget for a long time. That game against Dallas in '22 is a PRIME example. They both handled business in that game. No one gave us a chance to win that game. Most of the national media had that as a "Get right" game for Dallas and that to me was the game that opened some eyes around the league including ours. When we were locked in it was hard to beat us in '22. I think Rayshawn had like 18 tackles and 2 picks one being the pick 6 to win the game in OT. I know that was by far a personal record for him but I don't think we've ever had a safety outside of Tashaun Gipson in the 2017 Steelers regular season beatdown show out like that here in Duval. If Zay didn't have that bad knee issue he would still be here especially for depth reasons. Ever since he caught that pass that made him run straight into the field goal post he hasn't been right and i think personally he shouldn't have tried to come back at all last year.
I remember him in an interview saying the team said his knee was better but he said himself just to be sure he got a second opinion and it wasn't as ok as the team said. That bothered me. Idk what ever came of that but it just seemed like one of those stories you hear about teams not having your best interest in mind that we hear a lot. He should have sat down and went to get surgery to clean that up. Never should have put that brace on and tried to force it. Idk if that was a mix of him wanting to help the team or if the front office wanted him out there but we all know what happens if you don't take 💯% care of that knee. It can end your career. That knee is what made it a red flag when they tried to trade him in the draft. Look at Buffalo. They could damn sure use some good depth at WR and Zay has been there before. I hope dude is healthy now and he gets picked up. Atleast he made some tax free money while he was here. I think me personally losing him and Darious Williams could haunt us this year. Especially Darious because we don't have a clear replacement for D-Will on the roster. Buster Brown played good in spots but unless he takes a big leap it's still nowhere near the level of play D-Will was at. You seen how quick he got snatched up by his former team. We had the cap space to keep him.... I still don't understand that one.

Whether or not Darius would fit within Neilsons scheme of things is another thing, and maybe the cornerbacks age is a thing. We can only remember the good times and move on to the new players.

@@yodabbadabba3770Sometimes drops don’t tell the whole story if you look at Zay on the Field dude was damn good just like sacks don’t tell the whole story look at Hassan Reddick back in 2022 dude had a good year double digit sacks but didn’t do anything in the superbowl and if your going to say zay is not a good player then you need to say the same about jamar chase who had two less drops than zay which ik you won’t because you see his play on the field zay is damn good and if he goes to a team like the chargers or Arizona he’s going to be great tbh i prefer him over gabe davis.

I have a feeling Ryan Nielsen will give us a top 10 defense and end up being a head coach somewhere eventually. You can already see his influence on our team which exemplifies his leadership ability!

Names and highlights are cool but we can’t judge any of them until they have played a season and had a chance to show us. We still don’t know what we already have until we get enough of the right pieces playing in the right scheme. Players don’t implement schemes, make the game plan or call plays.

LSU had a subpar defense last year and for the first time in along time didn’t have a DB drafted in the first two rounds. So it may not have been the line
