Probably the best documentary series on television.
The opening zoom out from the picture tells you everything you need to know about the shows style of comedy. I was hooked immediately
The thing I love about Renholm senior is the way you're never quite sure if he's aware of all the shenanigans going on. Like here it's unclear whether he is aware that Jen is bullshitting and just doesn't care, or if he is genuinely oblivious and just happens to know the term "harddrive".
He has the best exit from a show, ever.
Speaking as somebody who doesn't know the difference between a laptop and...you know the larger one
Clicking...double clicking...
Well, this depicts pretty much how I got my first contract as a web designer back in 1996.
My wife refers to my workmates as "standard nerds". To be fair though she's right.
Watching this reminded me how much i miss the 00s... When the ps2 was the wonder machine..
Great show brilliant performances
The (large) uk company I work for once had an IT Director with similar abilities to Jen; she had a background in Finance. She lasted just about a year. In fact I suspected she had been given notice to leave more or less on day one of the job.
Yep, we had a Reinsurance Manager who revealed in our first team meeting that he 'didn't know anything about Reinsurance'. I then moved to another company who drafted in a bloke who looked about 12 years old as a claims manager. He drafted in loads of variable quality staff from his previous workplace, one of whom was a loud bird who spent 50% of the working day messing about and grappling with a younger girl that, presumably, she fancied. The age difference worked against her when she managed to bugger up her spine during a wrestling match (during worktime, of course) then on her return from sick leave had managed to bag herself a nice shiny BMW with auto gearbox that she could just about drive. Great example. Oh and don't get me started on Anita....put in charge of a team despite the fact she would have trouble running a bath. All noise and no brain. Gosh that was therapeutic. What a wunch of bankers.
Just to clarify, she did actually join the company as the financial director after getting shaken out of Tesco when they ran into problems a few years back. However it seemed she didn’t shine in that role either and got shunted into IT. When it became known she was leaving a few of us worked out her notice period must have coincided more or less with her transfer to IT so it looked like she had just been dumped there as a face saving gesture to work out her notice.
The only show where laugh tracks are somewhat acceptable
@@bcarp if this isn't a laugh track it's the worst example of a live audience i've ever encountered.
If you pay attention to it, you'll notice, that the laughter only makes sense form the perspective of the camera, like when the camera switches away from the photo.
that joke simply doesn't exist from the perspective of the audience.
I'm not sure I get why audience laughter is such a hindrance for modern viewers, with or without a laugh track, you can still laugh wherever you want.
@@Roy_1
It isn't a hindrance at all. They just like leaping on the bandwagon of bashing it. Same way all those people rage about the word moist or pineapple going on pizza. They don't actually care, they just want to fit in.
If all interviews went like this, more people would have jobs, a lot more people 😂
well, I mean, they'd still be hiring the same amount of people, it'd just, you know, happen faster.
As a software vendor, I'm relatively certain this is how most IT admins got the job.
Great Airplane reference with the picture of the boss mimicking the bosses pose, mimicking the picture, mimicking the pose....
This is how Susan Mauldin: Equifax CISO got her job
It's as effective an interview technique as any I've seen

I miss deynholm
FARTHHHHHHHHHHHHERRRRRRRR, thankfully his sexy replacement was just as bad. The court case is all that needs to be said.
Didn't know that this show was based on a true story.
More or less based on every middle big company. Somehow they keep sending non iters to manage the it.
This interview hits close to home
Ah yes, it isn't a proper computer if the hard drive isn't just sitting on the floor down there.
Love it. Year by year :)
Accountant, "Can you have a look at my PC?"
IT, "You mean, your laptop".
Accountant, "Yeah my personal computer".
IT, "Wrong context".
Accountant, "Its my computer and its personal".
News reporter, "A simple request turns into 'Rage' filled murder-suicide. Tonight at 6pm. CST".
Co-Anchor, "Pretty fucked up. What would make another man do that another man?".
Hiring for: IT expert
Looking for: Good Communication Skills
FARRRRTHHHHHER!
“Get me Rex Kramer!”. Airplane photo gag etc
The Peter Principle in effect.
Well, at least they're standard nerds and not the non-standard kind.
Jen is beautiful 😘😍
I freaking love Renholm
Mouse and mice😂
I said all that…. Didn’t get the job… should have mentioned ‘double clicking’…😏
This was a great show:)
I can share another story with you: One of the largest IT cabinet vendors in Germany (I won't mention the name) has a VP of IT who comes from the real estate sector. Believe it or not, she has absolutely no clue about IT and doesn't have a degree in anything similar. I'm not sure how she got into that position.
This reminds me of our Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Robert Habeck, in Germany, who has a degree in philosophy and used to be a writer prior to his career in politics
Allcovered Hiring Process
Roche Diagnostics has openings Jen.
Hilarious!
His son Douglas has a better office lol
doooooo~
Funny that He actually likes the IT department.
Katherine was always my fav on the show she is so hot and she's so funny
Forgot drag and drop.
This must be the same interviews they give the IT team at the company I work for lol 🙄
This guy has some Phil Ken Sebben vibes.
Does Renholm Industries not have an HR department? The big boss has to do the hiring himself?
At least it wasnt extraordinary nerds.
Nobody speak about the "hard drive" joke, c'mon it's funny !

Are you proficient in double tabbing?

Do
00:29 How can in-studio audience laugh again at the same thing when just the camera angle switches unless fake laughs have been edited in?
Superb show nonetheless.
I'd imagine it's either that have live editing (camera switching ) and some tvs in front of the audience and the switching will try to imitate the final editing result like we see here (like in Mrs browns boys)
Or they just cut pieces of the actual audiences laughter from somewhere else and just play it in a different spot
You know what's irony? It's 2023, and I know tons of teenage guys/girls who can make tiktok videos, brush up photos to make themselves look like princess, but simply can't attach a file to an email. Many of them have never clicked the mail icon on their phones, let alone sending a mail. So this comedy is not really far from reality.
1:29 That moment when a joke so internal to the world of IT hell desks is totally lost on an audience, that only 1 person gets it.
Either that or they're an idiot that laughs at anything even though they don't understand it.

Sending emails, writing emails, deleting emails...
Jen is actually far more computer savvy than most of my clients.
And in the UK you just need to be a female graduate bimbo who is "passionate about tech" (except you weren't prior to taking the job) despite having a degree in Medieval Basket Weaving... and you can be an overnight Jen Barber as well.
@@mxbx307 Medieval Basket Weaving LOL I'm willing to go back to college to earn that degree!
Clicking... DOUBLE-clicking...
To be fair the only reason Renholm hired her was to get at her sexually.
Agreed. What regular user takes the time to _delete_ emails? They wait till their mailbox hits capacity at 100GB then call us complaining they're not receiving any emails!
