I was going around on youtube a while back subbing to all the splatoon animators. I dont know how I forgot about you. truly fantastic animation, so good to see you improve so much.
Well done, Livy! I really enjoyed the fight scenes you've implemented. My only issue was the usage of chargers as swords (Poool did the same thing lol). It's not that I'm against the idea in general, but the way they were used was kinda forced. For example, at 6:58 and 12:57 the chargers were used as swords from the get go. We need to keep in mind that the primary use of chargers is being a long ranged weapon. Having them get used as swords should be a secondary option. What could have been done is you could have allowed for a transition between the two usages. For example, at 6:58 you could have had the octoling (I forget her name) shoot at MSA (I think his name is) first instead of jumping off and attacking him. MSA could have then dodged the shots and then thrown a bomb onto the ship, forcing the octolings to jump off (unless his brush was the Nouveau version). After that, MSA could have attacked the pink octoling with his brush. With the close range making the charger useless, she could have then switched to sword mode, starting off by blocking MSA's attack. What this transition does is it shows the octoling having a decent strategy by using her established range to her advantage, but it also shows MSA as a smart fighter by not only being able to avoid the shots, but also bringing the octoling within closer range by making her flee via a bomb. Finally, it shows the octoling's adaptability to a situation by having her switch to sword mode, and the rest of the scene could be played out how it originally went. You did manage to create a transition from guns to hand-to-hand combat at 13:21, by having Darcy kick Livy, who then drops her weapons as a result. That was great, and the kinda thing I'm referring to. Obviously this is easier for me to say after the fact, but it's just what I think about the execution of the fight. Your ideas alone are really fun to watch but to have them executed in the world/logic of splatoon in a believable way would make them seem all the more creative.
Thx for the feedback ^^ ! I will definitely keep this in mind ! However the reason I made that one character (Lucy) use the charger that way so quickly and agressively was her personality xD. She is very agressive, a troll, a prankster, sometimes crazy too xD. I thought it would fit her character a bit to have her use the charger incorrectly :))
@@LivyStarSplat aaah, that certainly clears it up. My suggestion would then be to give her a weapon that suits her aggressive behavior, like a roller maybe. Although, I’m not sure if their weapons are already set in stone :P
The day has finally arrived and it was worth the wait watching the newest episode! From the camera perspectives to the facial expressions and the body movement of the characters. The fight scenes are smooth and engaging especially the melee combat scenes! they were amazing!!! --- Spoilers Below --- And finally the story, the story was already interesting but this? this just got more interesting. Looks like "those" characters have finally appear and already I ain't liking em one bit. Darcy! she's my favorite character and already I want to know her backstory even more! as for Livy, I wonder what happens next hmm.... That's all i have to say! AAAA!!!!! You did amazing! we await the next episode! in the meantime you deserve a long vacation because you earn it! Till next time!
Very awesome job! Your animating regarding the facial expressions (the mouths) are very different than most animators I’ve seen. I’m very impressed! ❤️
The animation for this episode is incredible! We've also got an awesome plot out of it, between an ink battle invasion and the backstory on an interesting character we've all been eager to hear more about. At times the pacing feels a little awkward, like some moments dragging on a little too long, or lacking music or ambiance to allow full story immersion. Overall though, this was a solid episode well worth the wait and we look forward to seeing episode 4! Congrats, Livy!
