- These tips are applicable for EVERYONE, international or not, but there are some specific tips for all my international/Singaporean friends watching :) I left my most important tips towards the back, so be sure to watch the whole video!
If you're reading this & you're currently studying at Yale/any US school out of your home country, leave any tips that you have that I might have missed in the comments to help out our future applicants please!
Also, want to reiterate that this is in no shape or form me trying to show off being at Yale - I just hope to share some tips so that I can help more ordinary students like me get into their dream school. At the same time, please remember that your school will never define you - only you can determine where you go in life!

I'm Saudi, and it is my absolute dream to be able to get into Yale. Ever since I knew colleges existed i would adore college reactions and always cry with them, i wondered what was so special about ivy leagues... Once i learned about them i fell in love with Yale with the campus, the majors, the environment, and the people there. As young as i was i was so excited about it i read every little detail about Yale, and watched each and every video. I would even start writing the application even though i still had years until i actually need to write it. Now i have three more years until i finally graduate high school. Let's just pray i get in, it is literally my dream.

It's so great too see how passionate u are about Yale and the effort ur willing to put in tho I just want to say, dont forget to enjoy life right now. Going to Yale will not fill some hole in ur heart, nothing will if ur not appreciative of life for what it is right now. Just like ur 4 years of college will be unlike any other, ur 3 years of hs will be like that too. Ur youth, childhood and all these milestones will be unlike any other and u'll surely regret it "waiting" for life to get better. Make the most of it now:)

The admission officer was actually right in indicating you as a unique person because you really proved it at the end by emphasizing that failures can happen but it doesn't mean the end of your career or life. There are so many opportunities waiting ahead and we should always have multiple plans so that we don't get stagnant at any point and keep on moving so that we can reach a destination. Out of all the videos I have watched until now, this was the most realistic informative video I have watched IDK why this doesn't have like a million views, thank you for putting this out, even tho I am a high school grad of 2020, I am gonna apply to my dream colleges next month I recently found out that the colleges are within my reach and I can try applying to them, I started studying at my local college but tbh it isn't up to my level. I feel like I can do it. Even if I don't that's fine, I will come back here to post an update on whether I made it or not.

I'm pretty young lmao and i won't begin applying until like 3-4 years later (I'm in sec2 right now lol), but your videos are so incredibly inspiring to watch, so thank you!!
Hahaha I love that, yes our accent is super distinct, and so glad I have a fellow Singaporean watching! Yes Sec 2 is super young (I didn't think about applying to the US till the start of JC 2, lol) but it's great you're aware of these things earlier on! :) x

Im from Mexico and I rlly want to study at Yale , I’m in 8th grade so I have plenty of time for it, but I did my research of what does Yale wants in their students, I watch a lot of UA-cam videos like this one and I’m supper committed to do all the activities I can so they consider me for an scholarship and obviously to accept me to the school, okey so, I know I need to have a GPA of 4.0 minimum, I’m going to try to take the SAT and ACT exam bc in Mexico we don’t have that, in which I need to get more than 1500 on the SAT I think, and like a 35 on the ACT, also I need to be in like 10 AP classes and get a 3-5 in the exam, and a lot of extracurriculars ( I want to study laws, specifically criminal law ) ( in college I’m planning to have a majority of pre-law and criminal justice but I’m still not 100% sure ) I know I need to have research’s related to that and try to publish them, try to go to internships also related to that, be in debate ( I’m currently in UN model ) be president or vicepresident on something, develop an original project and try to win an local or regional award, community service, (I speak English and Spanish and currently learning French but I think I need to have more languages so )also learn Italian, etc, all that I’m high school hahaha, in Mexico, well where I live there’s only 3 years ( 10, 11, and 12 grade ) of High school so it would be hard to do all that but I’m going to try my best, oh and I also going to be on the IB program all the high school, and I’m going to try to do something on 9th grade maybe just community service bc there’s not a lot of options here but..., do you think I have a chance to get into Yale, and with a scholarship...???
I’m doing BSc sports science at the moment and want to do something in strength and conditioning whilst working alongside sports teams. Is there a way to work as a coach instead of paying? Or has anybody heard of something similar? Doesn’t have to be Yale.

It's very scary and I'm scared about how I'll feel if I don't get in. I know what school you go to doesn't account for your self worth but I would still be really bummed. :(

Where did you find the environmental conference? Did you find them online? Did you school make it a must for everyone to have a published science research? Or did you find it online or something? Was working with environment organisations what your school introduced you to?Lol for us average singaporean joe the only thing I have a clear idea of what to do is only do well in school. Otherwise I don’t know where to find anything to do. Furthermore, I intend to study economy, which quite frankly,I don’t know how to show passion on unlike other subjects like history in which show passion on(haha does this even make sense). Btw thank you for sharing your experience it has tremendously helped me!

Hello I have the same problem as yours , my schedule is an absolute mess besides my school doesn't offer any extracullars . Um gonna take the SAT this year to apply next year to my dream schools. We can start these tests prep and the application process together if u want 😊

hi victoria! how does going to a small school (my batch has 23 students lol) factor into applications? + my academics aren’t excellent (almost 50% of my grades are Bs, the rest are As) but i think i might be able to compensate for them with my extracurriculars. still really worried about my grades though :(
I’m not sure if it factors in much (from what I know they analyse by region as I said); that said, if you mention your circumstances (eg less resources if there are) in the extra information that might help you. Grades unfortunately are really important, so try to work on those! You don’t need perfect grades but a good record is also important.

Hey there, Yale offers very generous financial aid, and they are need blind (meaning that your need for financial aid does not affect your chances of getting in)! You can find more about this and see if you’re eligible online :) if Yale sees you as a worthy candidate, they will offer you the financial aid that you need :)

I spent suchhh a long time on them! Like 7 months lol! You definitely don't have to spend as long on it as me, just keep brainstorming and writing drafts and refining them! Just get those ideas flowing and something will eventually work out :) All the best, Harano!

try to go to another area if possible? if not you probably have to wait for the next cycle, or try to take ACTs instead!

Hi! I am from Ireland and I still have three and half years left in school, my first year and second year I did quite poorly in school. Mostly B's and C's and even a couple of D's. From now on I have been getting mostly A's and maybe a B here and there. Will my first and second year affect their decision (I was 13 and 14 at the time)
They only look at high school grades so if that was in middle school you should be fine

Hello I am Tara from India. Currently I am in class 11 and after passing class 12 I would like to pursue my undergraduate degree in Yale University. So my question is that, my class 10 marks were not that good bcoz I suffered alot last year due to covid but I am trying my best to get amazing marks both in class 11 n 12. A levels is fine, but yes you do need SAT / ACT! I think this year they might have changed the regulations cos of COVID tho so do check their website!

SAT scores are required for the application in general, regardless of the major. You apply to get into Yale and not to get into a specific degree!

I was just wondering what type of extracurricular activities admissions officers value? My short stories have been published in some anthologies, but I have not really won any national/international gold medals on them. What would you advise me to do in this scenario? Thanks!
They value anything as Long as you’ve shown dedication to it (time) and expertise (depth). Sounds like you’re on the right track, and don’t disregard your own accomplishments- being published is a big deal! keep writing, if you can find other avenues to showcase your work and find other ways to develop yourself as a writer (if that’s what you’re really into) :)

Yale has been my dream school since I was 5 years old, and I have flown all the way from Western Canada and visited it 3 times already. Plzz tell me that whether SAT or any exam compulsory for 2022 applying student or not
SAT is not compulsory and it is test optional these years, meaning that you can not take it, or take it and choose to not submit your grades, but I would recommend checking the requirements for the schools that you're applying to.
I’m from Germany and I really wanna go to Yale as soon as I have my Abitur/A-Levels. I’m currently in 9th grade on a Gesamtschule but I’ll apply to a Gymnsium after my Realschulabschluss/GSCE. If I’ll remember this comment, I’m gonna reply in a few years for an update.

Hello! I have one question🙈 Can I get into college if I had bad grades from 9 grade to 10 grade(I had two C grade) but then I enhances these grades to A in 11 grade and still trying to work hard in senior year? And also , do I need international awards to get into college? Thank you!!!
I personally think that’s okay (as long as you work really hard in your senior year), BUT I think it’s difficult for me to say exactly what grades are good enough for Yale. The thing is, Yale doesn’t consider applicants as “valid” or “invalid” simply by looking at their grades. If you can remember in my application tips video, I say that grades are just a minimum requirement that Yale looks at. It is equally or even more important for you to write good application essays, be active in extra-curriculars etc. What I’m trying to say is, Yale cares more about your application as a whole than just your grades. You can get all As and not get accepted, just as you can have a mix of B/As and be accepted as well.
Also - you don’t need international awards, definitely not, but it does help if you have awards of any kind (local, from your school etc)!

I do have questions tho.
U talked abt the IB cirriculum. But i am studying under the Cambridge curriculum, where we have A's and B's. So in grades 9 and 10 i did
have some B's in some class tests. However, i do have a trend of improvement in my results. And finally got a gpa of 4 on 4 for my board exams.
So will those B's affect my chance of getting into Yale significantly?
Also. I plan on majoring in biochemistry. But i do not have extracirriculars based on those. Cuz i was already studying that in school.
But i had 2 more fields of interest
1. Writing.
2. Motivational speaking
I have extracirriculars in both of those. Esp, for the 2nd one. Since i had my own experiences in the past, i opened an international platform that ptomotes positive living and mental health.
But this is absolutely not related to my major. So will this be a problem? Given i dont have extracirriculars related to science. Except for being the editor in my science club.

IB is basically a type of curriculum! Some schools have it and others don’t. You don’t have to worry about it, just go through school as per normal and do as well as you can 👍
i really want to attend yale university, but while i do have (what i like to think) unique interests and passions, i can't back them up with extracurriculars because my school doesn't offer them! what do you think i should do?
I was in the same situation. You got to create your own opportunities!
1) Start a club regarding your interest in your school. Shows leadership & initiative
2) Join / volunteer with an organization that does what you like outside your school
3) If you can't do the above two, then just work really hard and dedicate a lot of time to your interest outside school & work up to a level you can produce achievable results. E.g. if you like learning languages get certifications for them, or if you like doing yoga then if possible do yoga teacher training / learn some hard poses etc
All this should be an organic process tho! Don't just do things to get into Yale. You should genuinely want and enjoy doing these things and do them regardless if they would help you in your application or not :)

Hi currently the 25th percentile for Yale is a 1460 . I currently have a SAT score of 1470 . So will I be even considered during their application as if u take the average of the 25th percentile and the 75th percentile it comes to about 1510
Hi there, as I said in this video, the grades won’t make or break your application! If you get a not so good SAT score but the rest of your application is really good, you can still get in. I can’t tell you for sure though, it really all depends!

Hi! SAT and ACT are both forms of standardized testing. You only need to do one! They are separate from your high school grades / school system (which you would need to submit as well in your application). All the best :)
