Saw some epic acts there, Soulwax was incredible there. Was fortunate enough to DJ in the grand circle at one of the Deep Hard n Funky gigs too. Great memories!
I used to go dance parties at St James in the 2000's. So many neat spaces. It would be amazing to see this theatre continue on living......we need to hold onto our history in NZ
Who is the young guy who wants to be an archaeologist....he deserves a helping hand to achieve his dream...hes obviously got his head screwed on and a great vision the country needs more youths like him...such a waste and a shame when they end up down the wrong path simply because it's so hard out there now
I watched James Brown sing there. He said "And here I am... In the 'James'... The Saint James!". It made the crowd feeling proud we had something to offer that had style. And even Jeff Buckley sang/played there too I think.
It's so depressing watching this. What I don't understand is that the Civic was restored, why can't that happen to the St James? I also think the demolition of the Regent was another tragedy
It's less than 100 years old and has been closed since 2007. Tear it down and build a new thing. Do not make the mistake Wellington made with the town hall.
@ denny - ahh was robbed on 300 Qeer Street outside the A.S.B. bank there- It was a violent native savage that robbed me there and he put a fist too my head. ahh was jist passing through auckland at the time 3 months ago from Waipawa near hastings. - Will keep all expectations below zero ahh get my ca$h back and Dogg get's rectified.
i hate to say this and love all kinds ofpeople grew up in nyc big melting pot.Certain foreners are ruining auckland and not able to finnish the projects they start was told that they would be restoring this building than they would make apartments on the top than it looks like this.It should of been preserved I feel auckland lost its heart alot of little bildings all over, nothing left much in the city to see.used to have chineese markets fountains down the bottom, victoria markets arcades beautiful trees not palm trees in city. When i came here nz was diffrant thats what made you want to visit.Hate to say it but i will it looks like china now,it works in nyc because no one takes over and changes ny.theres china town little itally we all melt together anyway great vidio

an old school friend's father used to manage the St James.. its bizarre to think that was nearly 20 years ago lol.
