Single camera handlheld walkthrough which shows what you want to show viewers without making them feel dizzy or sick is not an easy thing to do, but you did it. Nicely done. The person holding this camera either got lucky or, more likely, knows what they're doing.
Partly due to the preservation of the original roof and exterior glass, this arena has a minimalist, mid 20th century meets modern day style that is perfect for an arena in Seattle and is unique among arenas in general. Fantastic architectural job!
This is a very first-class arena and also futuristic too! I like how there are several areas in the arena that show outdoor images, which go with Seattle perfectly. I think that Kraken will be a great success in the NHL!
Wauuuuuuu!!!! I Can't believe my eyes! This was actually once old Key Arena.. now it looks like the most spectacular arena in the world! Please get the Sonics back and in that arena!
They had the "Battle for Seattle" there and that was on some fans miss. The next team to call it home will be the WNBAs Seattle Storm, after 2 years between Angel of the Winds and the University of Washington Arena, where they moved when this was being renovated.
At 12:53, the seats obstruct the scoreboards which is why the have the TV screens but at least you can see the entire rink. It's much better than what they had at Barclays Arena or the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. The Kraken have a beautiful home.
Unfortunately, keeping the original roof compromised the ability to expand the seating much further. At 17,100, Climate Pledge has one of the smallest capacities in the NHL. It could not be helped due to the landmark preservation board voting to keep the original roof. The city was very lucky that it found a developer with the creative acumen to do a privately financed reconstruction that preserved the roof, otherwise, there would be no NHL in Seattle.
@@Bum_Hip they tried that but they all failed. One was supposed to be in the Soho district? Just a few blocks or so from Safeco and TLink feild. Edit - No idea why I thought of TLink. When it was CenturyLink Field I was thinking. Edit - Hahaha "sodo" not Soho.
@@Bum_Hip Chris Hansen, the hedge funder who wanted to build an arena in sodo, wanted to prioritize getting an NBA team first, then build the arena after which he would deal with the NHL. Obviously, we're still waiting for a shot at the NBA, and the waiting around to build the arena might have cost us a shot at the NHL if not for OVG offering to do the Key Arena rebuild to NHL spec. It is a nice building in spite of the limited seating.
Yeah, they just kept the roof and dug deeper to maximize space to build multiple locker rooms for the NHL, WNBA, and NBA. They built an atrium on the south side of the arena that also adds to the interior space where they built the main entrance, escalators to all the levels, added club, food stands, and the team shop. It basically a different arena inside but they kept the original roof.
@Kraken Fanatics thanks for putting up this video, really enjoyed it. this was a great way to see and understand what climate pledge arena is about! interesting how at entry level you are actually on the upper deck level. and the scoreboard arrangement is unique. overall an excellent looking arena. good luck with the kraken team, as long as it's not vs detroit or tampa 😉 cheers from southern ontario 🍁
VGK fan here. Thank you so much for posting this. I just got tickets for the back to back games we'll be playing against the Kraken in late March/early April. Wanted to see this type of video of your arena. Can't wait to see these games. Go Knights Go!!!!
A interesting tour. Thank You for sharing. The general seats look much more comfortable than the seats in Rogers Arena, (home of the Vancouver Canucks). Also nice to see hand rails down the steps, leading to ice level. I never understand how Rogers Arena gets away with not having these hand rails. As the width of the steps look the same in both arenas. Cheers.🙂🏒🇨🇦
It's about the angle and slope. If it's steep (depending on local regulations and pitch angle) it requires hand rails. Because CPA had to dig deep and fit everything in a limited square footage, they had to make some of the upper seats on an angle. Rogers arena didn't. I remembered taking a arena tour at Rogers Arena (then GM Place) and someone asked about the lack of hand rails. The tour guide said he'd ask and was given an answer 20 mins later via an email. Its all about how the steps are angle and pitched in relation to is location in the "nose bleeds." As for the lower bowl. That's another good question to ask on the next arena tour at Rogers Arena.
Nice looking barn, though I am surprised by the narrow choke-points along the concourse. And those white walls and pillars are going to look pretty beat up after a few seasons... so keep the touch-up paint handy!
Other than the stupid name they did a good job with the interior. The place was pretty much abandoned for a while, I mean it had events like job fairs but not much else for many years under the key bank areas name. Good to see it come back to life.
After having gone to a game, the two scoreboards don't look as wrong as you think. They're bigger than they look in photographs. The only problem is the team was not putting up in-game stats like for goal scoring-who scored, and who got the assist(s), nor shots on goal, nor penalties. Too much emphasis on pictures of Kraken fans sending twitter photos.
@@bklyntonw3187 how can they not put up the penalty clocks? The players use those too! How else is the goalie supposed to know when to slap his stick on the ice?
How are the views from up top there? Looks like it's pretty far away from the ice, looks like it's not a very steep bowl like most arenas. Also the press box being in front of you seems like it would be annoying
The first few rows under the press bridge actually have a really great view. Once you get higher up, the scoreboards and view of the fans on the other side of the bowl are blocked by the structure. I wouldn't like sitting up there, I'd feel a little boxed in so close to the ceiling, even though you can still see all the ice. We did mount some massive TV's though so you can still see the content on the scoreboards even if you can't see the scoreboard itself.
Having visited now during game at or very near full capacity, in the hallways and concourse areas additional sound proofing or something would have been good as the low(ish) ceiling and stuff funnels and traps sound making it loud. Still awesome arena though. (Also the escalators are too slow, lol)

the arena looks so much like a shopping mall, an airport , and an arena in one
And food concessions similar to that of a shopping mall:), but arguably of better quality and way pricier.
Good observations !
Yes, looking like a mall, airport and arena
It looks like an extension of the North Satellite at Sea-Tac
