Sukuma Bin Ongaro - This World (Kenya)

On the River Yala in western Kenya we linked with Sukuma Bin Ongaro, a popular guitarist and bandleader with hits throughout the 70s. Many years ago he found God, but with some herbal supplements, he can still be persuaded to summon the old songs. He plays here with Makunga Jazz Band.
The Makunga Jazz Band jammed off a speaker system powered by car batteries. Sukuma sang his gospel raps for the kids (listen at the end, his hook is "Ongaro Dot Com, Ongaro Digital!"). We ate chicken and drank Coke and the clouds rolled in and a vicious storm swallowed the road and we drove back to Kisumu tense and hunched up with Sukuma in the front seat, pointing out the potholes in the dark.
