The irony, first rants about how bad the locks are, then proceeds to break said lock after locked himself out. I guess that proves the point.

Megger testers are highly recommended, which model depends on what you need. I have a 1730 which is a bit over the the top for me and am yet to use the earth rod 3 wire test. I believe the 1731 is he updated version, and the 1741 which has some new fangled loop test. The 1731 and 1741 also take rechargeable batteries which can be recharged in the machine.

The only thing I didn’t like was the leads that come with it, the probes don’t fit my kewtech adaptors - there is a way which involves connecting the probe end into the machine and using the other end in the kewtech adaptors but instead of messing I bought a set of megger leads for the 1500 series which work fine with the adaptors.

Nice to watch some content overlap in to the IoT. It's a nice idea, with reference to the socket outlets being remotely controlled. In the (probably distant) future it's likely that these will be standard in one form or another, still think it's early days and the tech is still finding its way, as to exactly what implementation will become the de facto. Really interesting area.

We had something similar with a 2015 transit. Brand new, 3 weeks old, 2000 miles with a full custom set of drawers and shelves. The van was found parked in a nearby lidl with front windows intact but missing drivers door handle and a hole In the rear sliding panel. They used, I assume, a core bit that literally cut through the whole lower lock and pried open the top. Even though the van was worth 22k they only took what was inside. A diesel generator, a bunch of brand new Makita drills and a Husqvarna disk cutter. The damage and loss cost 4k including an excess for the door but I guess all the equipment was sold for pennies.

  • @Aidan-LM02

Tom you should get a box in the van that bolts to the floor and you can lock it and it is strong metal and you put all your tools in there and hopefully they won’t nick the tools as my neighbors van got broken into with just a flat head screwdriver #transit life and luckily he had that box his tools didn’t get stolen only a screw box did

I haven’t heard of anyone actually being denied insurance because they didn’t have any branding but I guess it’s always a possibility.

In the UK to own a gun you need a safe bolted to the wall. The police approved safes are 2-3mm steel at best, since battery drills and angle grinders came commonplace and cheap steel isn't worth shit any more. My brother works in the trade and they have new padlocks that will shatter grinding and cutting disks, don't know what they're made of but they cost a fortune

When you put masses of visible security deterrents on your vans or house, it will put off the common thieves, but will attract experienced thieves; they know you have something valuable inside worth protecting.
I grew up with 2 people who are now pretty good at their "profession", they look for well protected property because they know there is a good reward inside.
No matter what security you put on, a thief will be able to get inside, the security will just slow them down or force them to make noise and cause substantial damage to your property.
I would just have some sort of cart for all your power tools and remove them at night, it is probably just as quick as manually locking 10 deadbolt.
