"Hold On" is a song written and first recorded by the Canadian singer and songwriter Ian Thomas, on his 1981 album The Runner. His version reached No. 28 on the Canadian pop singles chart.
Thanks for giving credit to Ian Thomas who didn’t break into the US because he wasn’t willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money to have his songs played there. Great vocals by Alex Ligertwood. I saw him perform last year with Jim Peterik's World Stage show. He did three of his Santana hits. He comes out in a black outfit - a very slight man. Seemed like a somewhat frail old man but then he opened his mouth. Yowza - still terrific at 70 years old.

Carlos Santana and Carlos' music along w/the band member musicians configurations extraordinaire Carlos assembles is/are music GIFTS for the ages and will transpire time as long as the music is available..! (Not an opinion!!)
Indeed Dana, a great pop chart gem, from the great Santana. However, allow me to interject, where Canadian singer/songwriter Ian Thomas first recorded this song a year or so prior on his own, this Santana version features his then lead vocalist from that early 80's era, Scottish-born Alex Ligertwood, the same vocalist that sang lead on "Winning" with Santana, one year prior. Nevertheless, both great songs featured a more "corporate-slick/pop-sounding" Santana production compared to his earlier 1970's and then later late-90's/early-2000's pieces, that featured much more of his excellent guitar work "throughout-the-whole" of the songs...Rob Thomas & Michelle Branch, et al. This 1980's style of pop included...indeed...guitar solo work, that was both highly stylistic & very defined, but ONLY relegated to the middle "solo" bridges; an era of "fine-tooth-comb" highly strategically produced, very carefully layered blended pieces; a protocol of recording, multi-tracking & subsequent mixing, that is ever so very, very long gone in today's industry. Don't rush me just this once
I want to make this moment last
Slow down the pace, there's no hurry
I can't let another pass by me again
Let me be the one to say when I've had enough
Just let me close my eyes, memorize
The way things are this minute
So when you're gone I can go on
If memory can hold within it what I'm feeling
Should time try fading or stealing something away
[Chorus:]
Hold on, nothing's the same
Tell me why I feel this way
Life wouldn't be worth living without you
All along I've been the pretender
But now that's gone forever
Nobody's ever loved me like you do
Nobody's broken through
Got to concentrate, file away
Every last detail
Don't want to lose what's going down
I want to remember everything I'm feeling
Should time try fading or stealing something away
[Chorus]

Freaking favorite song from 82! Brilliant brilliant!! It has an “I’ll Be Around”vibe. When song starts, try “This… is our fork in the road…” magic!

When i was a little girl (probably 8 years old), this song used to play in our car. My sister loved Santana and she had an album. Today, I found this song again and it is the best nostalgia ever. This song was my favorite one. It brought back old memories and tears :)
He a great vocalist up there with the best
Seen the zebop tour in Tampa Carlos was having technical problems and Alex picked up the lead and didn't miss a beat
I wouldn't be surprised if he became Journey's lead vocalist. A Steve Perry vocal clone.
A guitarra mágica de Carlos Santana me faz sonhar até hoje. Amo essa música!
Hello;
thanks for being a great fan over the years. How are you doing
"Hold On" é uma música q marcou a minha juventude... A incrível guitarra de Carlos Santana me faz fechar os olhos pra cantar... n importa onde eu esteja! 🌹

Hello;
thanks for being a great fan over the years. How are you doing
Santana toca a música de alma e coração.
Thanks VEVO for allowing us to watch this gem again!!!
Nothing like the original video!
Thumbs up!!
Still remember when it originally came out on MTV in 1981 or '82.
Actually the original is by the writer, Ian Thomas.....just sayin'
And better. The speed is right. I like Santanas playing, but we he slowed it down?!
The original video of a cover song, interesting way of viewing it
Thanks Vevo? You have to stomach the crap music they advertise first.
2021 and Santana is still such a gift to us all.
Saudades dessa época...
Musica maravilhosa ❤❤❤
Alex Litgerwood amazing vocals made this song sound AMAZING! Next, Santanas guitar completed the amazing performance!!!
The Scots turn out really high quality singers.

We saw Santana last night at Thunder Valley Casino! They didn’t play this song! We were all bummed. But it was a great show!
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
Jesus this guy is a genius he mix happiness with sadness in ways that you live the song as at it happen to you
Written and sung by Ian Thomas, very nice voice, but with the sound of the guitar of Santana that gives magic to the song 🎸🔥

Wow, you know so much more of music than me!! I agree with you In Smooth or Corazón espinado with Maná , Santana really show how he play the guitar And that’s what I love, the way he does it Sorry for my bad english 🙏🏻 It’s not my language
