The 250x is a awesome bike. An R cam and a JD jet kit and the baffle drilled makes a huge difference. It's fast enough for almost anyone to have fun. I have a 06 and I drove it exclusively for 3 years before I got a 300 and I still enjoy the Honda. A true trail bike is a XR or a klx or a ttr. The Crf250x is at the top end of the trail bike category but not in the off road racing category without mods
In stock trim the CRF250x is down on power. It is based on the mx bike and can be "livened" up. It's big brother, the 450x won the Baja 1000 last year and many Baja races prior to that. When I hear people say "beginner trail bike," I think of XR, TTR or KLX.
Just the sound of the Beta is magic! I like the idea of an extremely flexible motor by simply tuning the power valve. I'm an old guy and don't hit things as hard as you young bucks so the softer suspension would be OK by me. Power? If some's good, more's better and too much is just right!
I have 115 hours on my 300rr and ride it with the valve between 1 and 1.5 turns in from flush; the bike still has loads of performance at these settings, but is manageable for me when I'm riding rocky stuff that I need to go slower on. Bike is too angry and hard to control for me at flush, but I am just a noob really. I'll often hit the map switch when I need a bit more control/traction, and there is a distinct difference for me with the mapping in soft vs hard. Soft map @ 1 - 1.5 turns in is great for slower technical stuff; then run fast map for open flowing riding like you're doing. Still pops front wheel up with ease in top gear.
If you look at the Honda site they have the 250x under trail and competition it's also one of the only new bikes with e start and kicker still . Great all around bikes with Honda's build quality they last .
wrench One My daughter loves her 250x. She went from a2009 KTM 250 xcf -w to her 2008 Honda 250 x she is only 5'1" and 105 lbs and the torque and power delivery was so much better than the KTM. The KTM low end was pretty weak compared to the 250x and after lowering it about 2" it was almost perfect. Just a little heavy for her. Too bad there isn't a small framed, lighter (like a Honda 150RX concept) bike with e start and about 200 lbs wet that would be good for a smaller intermediate riders
Nic Stukan there was a service Honda a few years ago a crf150r frame with the 250 motor there's actually one for sale on Craigslist in Charlotte right now for 3 .
wrench One Honda builds conservative, but reliable bikes. Although I think the Beta 300 will last very long -- at least compared too other smokers, given it's oil injected.
Thanks for the video. Im with you. The Beta is the Best Bike I have ever owned. Just got a 2018 300RR. So much fun. So much power. You have a very cool place to ride
With the same rider? No. The 300rr has something like 20hp more, and weighs less. But, it really is up too the rider. Hell, I rode a '92 CR125 from 13-21 years old. I got so good on it, I would demolish all the 450's at my local track. At 22 when I upgraded to a 2004 KTM 250SX, I was getting my ass whooped by the same 450's on the same track. Why? I was shit at riding a 250. It was my first time, and coming off a 125 for 8 years straight, the 250 felt like a whale in the turns and technical sections. Eventually I got good on it, but I never beat my fastest lap time on my 125. I just didn't feel confident enough to get good enough to ride the 250 too it's full potential.
The power valve on the beta 300 and 250s are different but i have my 250 turned in 1 3/4 and it feels great i tried 2 and it felt like it didnt have the power to pull up a hill and at 1 1/2 it felt like it was to much torque so at 1 3/4 it felt perfect where it was to zappy and it wasnt to weak
Hey Kyle I havn't watched your videos in a while man I've just been so busy this season with work. I gotta say tho man you are still putting out quality videos and you have me itching to hop back on my husky wr250 2 stroke this weekend :)
I don't like the whole race bike/trail bike adjectives. Pretty sure if if Jarvis rode and XR100, he'd still beat 95% of the riders out there. Does that make it a race bike? I think being more descriptive and talking about how the power is delivered is a better way to go about it
Justin Bova you're right but some bikes are certainly a little more trail oriented like say a ttr 230/250, kdx 200, or this honda here. It doesn't mean it's all they can do its just there intended setting. It's like a lot of race bikes can make great woods bikes some even do it pretty well out of the box like the yz250. Some bikes though are obviously intended and do their best there like the ktm xc series and obviously a lot of the other euro comapnies. Those bikes that are setup around woods racing are also going to be great on the trail and what not but the gearing and suspension is not going to be very good on an mx track. So for the general user it's good to get a bike oriented around the type of riding you want to do, ofcourse a great rider is going to destroy most of us on any bike out there regardless, skill makes up for about anything in the world of motor sports.
@dirtbikechannel Yes, but my point was I think you are turning people off using the phrase trail and race bike. I do not, but a lot of guys have a lot of pride when it comes to the color of their ride. I think you can say the same thing, but deliver it differently buy speaking to how the power is delivered. Because I agree with you the power is delivered completely different in a 300XC, 300RR, and 250X. Just food for thought. Some guys seem to have their feathers ruffled
These Honda enduro bikes come really restricted, I opened up the airbox and fitted an aftermarket exhaust on my mates bike and man did it have more power, but it was still so easy to ride.
David Knight has won rounds of the British Extreme Enduro series on the 250X. They are great little bikes and can be hopped up nicely. The forks on the Honda are miles better than the WP Xplor and open chamber forks
footbalr074 well maybe some people aren't rich and can't buy brand new 2017's or 18's now. Just because it's an 08 doesn't mean it's a POS. I have an 08 and it runs flawlessly
Being a good starter bike doesn't make it a bad bike. You're the one assigning that to it. A ninja 250 is a great starter bike, it's also a great bike to race and go fast on. But to believe either one is as good as 2017 top of the line bikes is silly.
I dont really see the point in comparing a 250 4 stroke to a 300 two stroke, of course the two stroke has more power and weighs less. good video regardless
I also have this to say about the whole "80% rider, 20% bike" concept. True, a top rider can take a lesser machine and do most of what he could do on a full race bike. But when you're racing (and that doesn't just mean sanctioned races... anyone with riding buddies knows racing happens all the time. How many times has a "trail ride" turned into a pseudo GNCC round?!), the quality of your equipment matters when your competitors or riding partners are on top quality equipment. Period, end of story. Having a good quality bike appropriate for your intended activities, be it sanctioned competition, competitive play riding, or trail riding definitely makes it better. More fun... Even riding a borrowed quality bike that isn't set up for you can dampen capability and fun.
I am 14 years old 5 foot 3 and I am starting riding should I start with a 150 four stroke or a 125big wheel four stroke. I have rode a 125 before but I don't know if u should get the 150
I know this is a 2 year old video but is this Willow creek??? I have a cabin up on skyline about a mile and a half off US-6 and have never been able to find it!!
I have been looking at getting a trail bike and have been looking at the Honda 250 bikes. They have a crf250f and crf250x. The x has a slightly higher seat height and cost a little more, but I don't consider either overly expensive. The dealer says the f is more of a trail bike and better pick for my use. You indicate the x is a great trail bike. What are the real differences between these models?
You would be surprised what that honda 250x can do. And to talk about reliability is another thing. I own a 2006 250x and i havent had a single mechanical issue with the bike in 12 years. Its been through hell and back with me and still keeps running. I have no problems keeping up with my buddies on their 450s as long as its not wide open desert
You were dusting whoever was on the Beta at the end of the video. Rider skill still counts for something even if you are on a bike that is less than half the cost.
Mine has the big bore kit airbox mods and it's a true everywhere bike for this advanced older rider and it has plates too can bust wheelies and jump fine, over everything I ever need to , bc I'm about the size your average Japanese rider, the suspension is brilliant , And I can get three of them for a KTM or God forbid a Beta. My next bike is my dream - the Yamaha 125X most the big bikes I see out here in CO are no faster and often much slower than I amXy
How would you describe the Honda CRF250X vs the KTM 200 XCW? My 14 year old son is ready to step up to a full sized bike and both are on the list of consideration. He's been riding trail riding for 9 years. He IS NOT a racer.
Stock, the X is not very remarkable. I ride a 2015 CRF250X that has been modified with jet kit, air box mod, FMF, primary drive gear reduction, smog removal, and good tires. I "trail" ride with all the "cool" bikes and can hold my own. It is not a rocket, but you better have it pointed in the right direction when you twist on it.
There's been plenty said here about adjectives et al. The bottom line is, Kyle has both described the power and handling characteristics of these bikes and used adjectives such as "race bike" and "trail bike" to make subjective statements about their suitability for different activities. Which is totally appropriate; this is primarily a review (while we also get to watch him ride some awesome trails, which is my favorite part... but I digress) which necessitates a level of subjectivity. On top of that, as an veteran rider with four and a half decades of dirt racing and riding, and an avid motorcycle fan who has consumed most every bit of written and, especially so in the last 10 years, electronic media on motorcycles that I could get my eyes on, I believe I am well qualified to make this statement... Kyle does a great job with this channel, and is becoming more and more like the professional moto journalists who do it as a full time career. And that's a good thing. Is he perfect at it? No, and neither are the professionals. But they're good at it, and Kyle is definitely getting there. I'm impressed enough to have become a Patreon supporter, and I try to catch every one of his videos. There are very few channels I support financially, and I think very highly of Kyle's work.
You seem to be attracting a lot of haters lately. I am not sure what ever ones problem is.We all ride dirt bikes for fun so who cares who rides what and where. I think you do a great job and should be encouraged so you keep making more videos for us to enjoy. I guess at the end of the day opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one. Keep up the good work.
Here's a question on the flip side, what is the worst bike in your opinion you've ever rode in general? I know that's tough because bikes will be better in different areas.
i have 2012 X and the bike is awesome they are not beginner bikes at all and you cant compare the one your riding think you said was an 08 to the newer Beta 300 as in any carb bike minor mods are always needed fuel and air all bikes have there strength and weakness i also have an 06 wr250f completely different power delivery than the X each bike has its place thx
If the CRF 250X is Honda's trail bike then what is the CRF230F ? The CRF230F was supposed to be Honda's trail bike? The 250X is like 3k more should i just get the 250X then?
Michael Procenzano 250X and 230F are wildy different. the 250X RIPS compared to the 230F the 230F is a really big pit bike in all honestly it does have decent bottom end though. but neither will come EVEN CLOSE to a CRF250R
Michael Procenzano oh yeah that's a excellent bike for hare scarmbles E start and stuff since you're not all out on a motocross track where a 250R. I've done hare scarmbles and beat 450s on a KX125 although the 125 is probably the worst and most shitty bike for hare scarmbles ZERO bottom end power. so yes a CRF250X will treat you really well
I wouldn't call the crf a starter bike. Can you ride it to its Limits? If so uncork it.It came emissions legal .I do still prefer my Ktms over it but that is mostly because they are easier to plate here and most our riding we have streets to connect trails. Comparing a 2 stroke to a equally size 4 stroke the 2 stroke is going to win in my opinion.
The last I checked, dirt bikes don't have feelings. So, let's just call it like it is. The CRF250x is a good starter bike, and it's great on the trails. But after you're more experienced, you're inevitably going to want more power and speed at times. I think it would be more misleading to say that it could be your one and only "forever" bike, or that it would be a great choice for GNCC racing. Sure, some people are good enough to be competitive on it, but if they have the skills, another bike would be more appropriate.
I ride an 06 CRF250R, I have it modified, the dry weight on my bike stock is 204 lb, the dry weight on that beta is 230 lb. It is the rider, we all know that so I prefer the lighter bike and wuth my bike being fixed up, it will go faster than a stock beta 300rr and it weighs 25 lbs less.
I've personally seen a stock 250x rocket through the whoops at 70mph. Pretty sure the crfx is Johnny Campbell racings race bike platform. Anyways, you're dogging on the crf all while the beta struggled to keep up. When I moved from my wr250f to ktm 450 excr, I didn't move to a racier chassis. I moved to a more powerful motor. Anyway, you most certainly can ride on top of whoops with that bike, and I've blown past many motoX bikes on my "trail" ready softer sprung bikes. Big doubles is what the crfx has a hard time handling.
If I had a choice of a beta 300 or crf 250x hands down would choose the crf and not a beginner rider either. I do everything on the bike from the flowie trails you do to very hard endruo fast desert whoops and competition level as well. (Yes the bike isn't stock, does have hot cam and high comp piston) my dad has ALWAYS told me 80% rider 20% bike. I raced (and beaten) the 300 2 strokes. 80% rider 20% bike
Gabe Williams Productions Crf250x is a pretty serious machine in it's own right. I don't buy into it being a "trail bike" as they are seriously fast and very capable. I can ride them almost as fast as my '14 WR450 when big power isn't all that matters. Be prepared to maintain the things. Not ultra reliable like XRs or TTRs.
Fendt Driver beta actually has great support for parts and accessories in the united states. I can get any part drop shipped to my house in 2 days. I like the versatility of the beta compared to the ktm
The 250x is a awesome bike. An R cam and a JD jet kit and the baffle drilled makes a huge difference. It's fast enough for almost anyone to have fun. Wtf are you saying? XRs as beginner bikes? XR 500, XR 600 and XR 650R are not so "beginner friendly"
Danger Joker small bore 250cc and less
@@maxmartin6183 I have a 00’ XR 400. I let my beginner friends ride it. Nice and friendly power
Just the sound of the Beta is magic! I like the idea of an extremely flexible motor by simply tuning the power valve. I'm an old guy and don't hit things as hard as you young bucks so the softer suspension would be OK by me. Power? If some's good, more's better and too much is just right!
The Crf250x with the air box mod jets and a fmf exhaust. I can pound through anything at any speeds with no problem. And have topped it out at 88.9
I have 115 hours on my 300rr and ride it with the valve between 1 and 1.5 turns in from flush; the bike still has loads of performance at these settings, but is manageable for me when I'm riding rocky stuff that I need to go slower on. Tori's Trails Hey, Do you still own the Beta? If so, how has it treated you in terms of reliability?

Nic Stukan I bet you could find something for her in the AJP lineup.
wrench One Honda builds conservative, but reliable bikes. Although I think the Beta 300 will last very long -- at least compared too other smokers, given it's oil injected.
Heinrich Von Kekelnazi yes only time will tell I would love to try one
Just some pistons and valving in the suspension makes a HUGE difference for the x.
Thanks for the video. Im with you. The Beta is the Best Bike I have ever owned. Just got a 2018 300RR. So much fun. So much power. You have a very cool place to ride

Yep Mattew Philips has been enduro GP world champion in 2016 on a Sherco 300SEF-R, yes the 4 stroke version, just saying.
Pretty sure I talk about this for approximately 10 minutes during this video.
Justin Bova you're right but some bikes are certainly a little more trail oriented like say a ttr 230/250, kdx 200, or this honda here. David Knight has won rounds of the British Extreme Enduro series on the 250X. They are great little bikes and can be hopped up nicely. The forks on the Honda are miles better than the WP Xplor and open chamber forks
Hill climbs and nasty rocky and rooty terrain is where the 250x accels, actually.
"calling the CRF250X a starter bike isn't cool."
shut up it's a POS from 2008, get over yourself.
mestandard I couldn't have said it any better
footbalr074 well maybe some people aren't rich and can't buy brand new 2017's or 18's now.
DSmitty YT also he comments about how it does really well in this type of riding.
I dont really see the point in comparing a 250 4 stroke to a 300 two stroke, of course the two stroke has more power and weighs less. good video regardless
The Beta 300rr does have springs in the powervalve, it is almost identical to the KTM design
I also have this to say about the whole "80% rider, 20% bike" concept. True, a top rider can take a lesser machine and do most of what he could do on a full race bike. Could you put the name of the trail you ride in the video in the description?
strawberry ridge trails 83, 25, 26 and 27 if you watch his earlier videos he rides a lot of he same trails and tells where he is.
Paul Tuttle in utah?
Yes
Just gonna say u were faster on the crf from what it looked like on GoPro
the 300RR is jumpy as hell, nearly thrown off once due to whiskey throttle lol

does anyone know what pipe he has got or if the whole bike is stock or not
where this , america ?
another great video but i sure wished you would give a trail number on these great utah trails
strawberry ridge trails 83, 25, 26 and 27
could you talk with the guy that owns the 250x and try and put it on your scale to see how it stacks up with all the others you have reviewed
How do I run in my ktm sx 125cc just rebuilt the whole engine. Thanks
Would you consider reviewing seal savers for a video? They are relatively cheap.
You were dusting whoever was on the Beta at the end of the video. Rider skill still counts for something even if you are on a bike that is less than half the cost.
That valley looks nice to ride wish there was more stuff were i live like that
Wow I am always reminded how beautiful that sherco

This ride is like watching molasses pour from a jar. Come to eastern KY, we’re not afraid to twist the throttle and ride!
what camara do you use in this clip?
If the CRF 250X is Honda's trail bike then what is the CRF230F ? The CRF230F was supposed to be Honda's trail bike? The 250X is like 3k more should i just get the 250X then?
Michael Procenzano 250X and 230F are wildy different. the 250X RIPS compared to the 230F the 230F is a really big pit bike in all honestly it does have decent bottom end though. but neither will come EVEN CLOSE to a CRF250R
Will the 250X do the job for Hare scramble?
Michael Procenzano oh yeah that's a excellent bike for hare scarmbles E start and stuff since you're not all out on a motocross track where a 250R. I've done hare scarmbles and beat 450s on a KX125 although the 125 is probably the worst and most shitty bike for hare scarmbles ZERO bottom end power. so yes a CRF250X will treat you really well
Thanks Mike...
Where do you ride.
Another of my loved spots u guys ride at
Hey Kyle, love your videos man. could you do a video on how to recover quicker after a ride, agony for a week+ after a ride.
Ross Young stretch and drink lots of water.
Cheers ArkansaDave1 appreciate the advice new rider
The last I checked, dirt bikes don't have feelings. So, let's just call it like it is. The CRF250x is a good starter bike, and it's great on the trails. But after you're more experienced, you're inevitably going to want more power and speed at times. I think it would be more misleading to say that it could be your one and only "forever" bike, or that it would be a great choice for GNCC racing. Sure, some people are good enough to be competitive on it, but if they have the skills, another bike would be more appropriate.
Aaron McElhinney my dad's won numerous Enduros in A class on the 250x..
looks like a cool trail. wheres it at/
Where at?
I ride a xr250 in some really technical stuff and I beat heaps of 2 strokes like Ktm, yamah susuki beta and cr125
80% suspension 20% motor . . .honda for the win
i love my 250x! the perfect trail bike.
or is it the perfect race bike, or race trail bike, or, well, never mind...
It's about the rider not the bike
Where is this trail? He talks like he's from Utah, just wondering where in Utah .
I'm an old air cooked xr guy so will always take the honda. I would rather buy a used honda before accepting anything else even for free
Ur going way faster on the honda...did you notice?????
I have a HONDA CRF 250 L
It's a great bike on the dirt and on the road
I'm 15, 5'7", and about 135lbs. with gear on, I'm looking for a good harescramble/trail bike and was considering the crf250x, what do y'all think?
Gabe Williams Productions Crf250x is a pretty serious machine in it's own right. I don't buy into it being a "trail bike" as they are seriously fast and very capable. I can ride them almost as fast as my '14 WR450 when big power isn't all that matters. Be prepared to maintain the things. Not ultra reliable like XRs or TTRs.
Dude u have all these fansy enduro bikes why dont u do enduro . And a beta isnt a trail bike its a enduro bike
Ride some more Sherco Plz Scherco makes so great bikes :)
CRF 400 X would be great
When you never buy ktm 250 exc, because you are frightened by the cost of servicing, because because you have drz400
andrey xxx ktm's are serious expensive to run and unreliable
I will never take a 250x in a tight stuff ever again 😂😂😂
its the rider that can catch beta
Where was the competition at? There was no catching anything. Stupid click bait strikes again!
It's a 4 stroke...
I have a 450x it's bad ass. I'd like to have a hydraulic clutch, 6th gear and EFI tho. My next bike will be a beta rrs 500
U need to learn how to get on the pipe
That's not the best trail bike ever ride a KDX
KDX !!!
Why so many haters
Whats better Beta Ort KTM?
The Beta is a nice bike, but the service from italie is very bad 😏
Fendt Driver beta actually has great support for parts and accessories in the united states. I can get any part drop shipped to my house in 2 days. I like the versatility of the beta compared to the ktm
bla bla bla bla
Reviews from a guy who can't ride lol
The 250x is such a lame bike
ARidingLifestyle and you are lame
