Thanks Chuck! I came very close to visit this site in 2017 but the tour was cancelled because one of the road leading to the site had been partially destroyed by the overflooding of a river. We went to the smaller Mayan site of Altun Ha instead, that was still pretty damn cool, elongated skulls carvings on the main structure and i remember that one huge piece of jade was found there back in the days, 6 inch if i remember correctly. Anyway, Xunantunich looks quite impressive, these Mayans were really incredible, thanks again Chuck, take care.👊
The finished stone being between layers of rougher stone suggests either the refined stonework was raised or that refined and rough stonework occurred at the same time. I think either are possible... I'm thinking there was a "travelling royal sculptor guild" that hired itself out to the city-states. The rest of the structure was likely stuccoed and painted to match.
interesting i was married like 22 years ago on Xunantunich (Zooan Tu nich) (got the Ok from the Belize government to do it) never new it had the serpent king reference, I have hard time calling snakes- kings... Funny they all worshiped the NAGA around the world ...or is it ?
I wonder what "Naranjo" translates to....the Spanish word for orange is "naranja" but I know Mayan is not the same as Spanish. Is it just a coincidence that the two words are very similar/ Just curious.
The Narrative is always that people just walked away but the truth is more likely that they were all wiped out by planetary catastrophes. Cyclical and repeated.
@@kerylorbsmultidimensional4214 ...there has never been a good explanation, ever. Of course we know the 'catastrophe' scenario's, but....nope, not that.

You do good work with your morning "coffee videos"! Makes me want to go perk a pot to watch it! LOL, thanks Chuck!
I have had the pleasure of visiting 2 times in my life. Coracal is the best though.
Thank you Chuck

smaller stones always denotes repair work to older structures. The difference is very apparent to those with the eyes to see.
2:15 is there megalithic stones on the right corner? and 3:14
Excellent video. I love the things you present

Awesome
they must have been very very organised to build these citys.
Great video Chuck!! I am thinking how they were doing all of the stone carving and why we don't do that today? We have gotten ignorant to what was!
A pandemic may have impacted their society as well...
Possible.

Would love to know the reason they would spend years building these and just walk away; maybe they 'floated' away? very cool.
Communicable diseases.
