I met George in 1986. The first time I talked to him we sat and talked backstage at a show he was doing at Northwestern University for 2 hours. I was struck by how intelligent he was, and also how serious he was. Off stage, he was not a clown, he was a real Thinker. He really hated "stupid" cultural things, and he knew that even though it was the fodder for his comedy, it represented real world issues. He felt tht it was his job to point out our stupidity in a way we would accept. He was brilliant, and he was kind, though many didn't think he was "nice". He wasn't. Being nice, in his mind, was the opposite of being kind. I miss him.

Hey Silas, you've got to do more Carlin. Highly recommend doing his two religious skits: Religion is BS, and after that one: The 10 Commandments. These two relate to each other. Other skits to put on your list: Euphemisms, Airline Announcements, Dumb Americans, and 7 Words You Can't Say with a much younger George. There are other of his skits to enjoy too.

I wish I could watch George again for the first time. Enjoy it and look back through his catalog. It's amazing. He was a genius with language and observation, but on top of that, he was a philosopher. The best comedians always are in many ways. He was ahead of his time, the things he discussed 30 years ago, still apply today. He's timeless and really one for the ages. I do miss him and find myself often wondering, "I wonder what Carlin would have to say about this?"

As one who cut his teeth as a 14 year-old back in the early 70's on George Carlin's LP (vinyl) comedy albums, I can't recommend it vigorously enough that you (as someone so young as to not have heard of him) that a deep dive is definitely in order! Do check out at least one of his comedy albums. Especially, one out of the 70's or 80's. A taste of what I speak could be 'I Love My Dog', 'Seven Words (you can't say on television)', 'The Hair Piece', 'Welcome to My Job' and 'White Harlem'. It makes me laugh just to think of a few titles here for you! 😏🤣

I was lucky enough to see one of George's shows where I live with my father. My dad didn't know I was a huge Carlin fan and had gotten 2 tickets, but the person he was supposed to go with couldn't. Worked out for me! I was in my late teens, early 20's at the time.

George Carlin was less of a comedian and more of a stand-up philosopher. He was never afraid to speak out on the stupidity of humanity and make us laugh at it. We need another like him but I'm afraid that is a lot to hope for. Only one George Carlin. R.I.P. George we miss you!!!

I’m sure I saw him most of the 130 times he was on “The Tonight Show” . I got to see him LIVE one time . Yeah man listen to lots of EARLY Carlin LP’s . 👍🎤😂

George was so great. I saw him around 10 times or so live. One time I was laughing so hard that I almost went into convulsions & had sore ribs after the show! Richard Pryor had the same effect on me when I saw him live. " They " would probably try to cancel George in these times & I do think that he would not even GAF! His observations on humanity & especially Americans were so spot on!

As a boomer approaching 70, I would advise you to check out more of Carlin's clips. The American Dream and Flying on The Airlines are also good, and just about anything else. He was a genius who was way ahead of his time. He actually started his career in the 50's, when I was just a lad. I beieve not only his subject matter, but his uncanny means of delivery are what made him so good! Check him out and enjoy!
