  • North South choke is considered one of the most difficult chokes to master.
Some people think its a big guy move because the counters they've dealt with seem too easy for their opponent & almost impossible to stop.
10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Matt Skaff, has one of the nastiest North South chokes around & has been fine tuning the technique for years. He understands how to troubleshoot the common problems people run into when attempting this choke & we've put all of his ideas into an easy to understand INSTRUCTIONAL that even the smaller guys will be able to learn from and quickly develop a NASTY North South Choke.
This entire instructional is available for $59.

I've always been good at this choke, but ever since you guys started covering it more I've been focusing more on the little details and hitting this choke a lot more. It's become my go to the last couple weeks and is really setting up kimuras and back takes also.

In MMA we often see rear naked chokes, guillotine chokes, arm triangle chokes, leg triangle chokes, D'Arce. But not many north-south chokes in UFC. Why is that? Thank you.

I always wondered why people do not do the north south choke more. There are many guys that once they get you in north south you are not going anywhere but I never see the north south choke finish. I wonder why that is? This video does a great job explaining how to stop the bridge and scramble but some guys just cannot get the finishing mechanics even when they have the position. I think everyone has seen the guy that rides the north south position for 2 minutes until the rolling drill is over.

It’s a total finesse move. Even once someone teaches it to you, it takes a really long time to develop the sensitivity needed to feel it at a high level

The reason guys can’t finish is because they can’t open the space with their lats. No matter how heavy and strong they are if they don’t properly open that space they will not finish. Once the lat connects and my body moves into that space all it takes is a bicep squeeze to get the finish. I very rarely use both arms to finish. I guarantee if you use that method to enter the choke, compared to trying to enter sprawled with your hips squared, you will have more success finishing.
