Great episode. Ken, I'm starting to realize how much work goes into each episode, and it's appreciated out here. For decades to come, modelers will be enjoying and learning from your show.
Ken many Thanks for having Matt over. Ever since Bowser released their GMD SD40-2 with Loksound, Ive gotten a better understanding of Lok. Since then Ive purchased a Lok Programmer and Ive been upgrading several of my locomotives to ESU/Loksound. The Full Throttle feature is incredible!!
Dear LokSound Folks, The day I'm waiting for is the day you allow us to program into the throttle, "on the fly", the weight the train is pulling, then match the momentum/etc. to that weight/horsepower combination. In other words, after I install my decoder, there would be a CV or CV's to allow me to enter the horsepower/weight/tractive force of my locomotive. When MU'd, the decoders would take the added horsepower/weight/tractive force of the loco's, and add them together for MU'd service. Then, we would have a CV we could type in how much weight we have in our train at any given time, and have the decoder(s) react properly to the added weight. For example, if I back my loco into a siding and couple to a loaded boxcar, I could then push the "option" button (or whatever), and type in the added weight to my train, say by using the number "100", it would represent 100 tons. The more weight I type in, the more "effort" it will take the loco(s) to get the train rolling along and stop (just like the real "thing")! Anyway, as a "simulation nut" and "realistic freak", I'm actually surprised that someone hasn't done this loooong ago. I remember when momentum started showing up on DC power packs, I thought "OK, here we go, we are getting there", but then momentum has just sat dormant, even to this day!!! I had always waited for the option to adjust "momentum" to represent something closer to actual tractive effort/train weight calculations, but..... nada! Today, with the incredible capabilities we have with our decoders, please don't let me wait until I'm in the grave for such a feature to show up!!!! PLEASE!!!! Thanks. ;) Dedicated LokSound addict & maniac!
My uncle took all my childhood trains "cause they didn't work anymore. They still don't work. My uncle is dead. I'm too old. Thank God I found you guys. Stay young and prosper.
Ken, a great episode. To quote you "I'm going to have to watch it again to absorb everything". I liked the Michael Gross interview - very interesting background. I have a LOT to learn about Loksound. I know they have great sound but programming takes more effort than Brand T. The demo on running the engine really helped explain their new features. He's right, it would be fun to control the sounds, especially of units doing switching or slow speed runing as there is much more variability than some decoders can capture. You did a fine job on this and I look forward to more (as well as occasionally looking back on older editions)
I really enjoy your interview with Michael Gross. I think he is a great actor and he needs to be given more rolls, because every movie he is in, it just has that extra touch. Are you going to have more an his modeling? Anyway Matt Herman really debug for me the way Loksound decoders work.Because I would press the F9 button on my throttle and the engine would barely move. And now I know why. Thank you for a great show. RT
Ken, I really enjoyed seeing Michael Gross. He's an enormous advocate for our Hobby, but we rarely get to hear about the Man himself! The ESU spot was great! All decoders aren't *exactly* alike... One feature that ESU has, which I really like is, without doing anything to them, they will notch up from idle BEFORE they start moving - much like the real thing! Now, you can do that with Tsunami and WOW Sound decoders, but some require some tricky programming. Experienced modelers understand the steps involved, but it's nice that the ESU requires nothing but taking it out of the box. NOW, if someone can figure out a way to connect TCS's superior "Keep-alive" to an ESU decoder, that would be awesome!
Glad I waited to buy that ultrasonic cleaner to mix my paint, now it is a sander... I suggest you put a 3/16" chromed ball bearing in there to mix up the clumps :) Your show is always Great ! Makes me want to move to SE MO.
So have I got this correct ken any loksound v4 can be programed with all sounds diesel/steam/electric all from one V4 , I guess you tried to get that question answered but I did not hear it .Awesome episode this month I loved it .don't ever stop .......
Yes. Both V4 and Select can be loaded with Steam/Diesel/Electric. Whatever file you'd like. The key difference is on V4s is that I you can load completely custom sounds onto them (see Bradley DCC videos with my (Woody's Weathering Shop) custom horns bells and such) whereas Selects can only have the preset sound files that are available from ESU.
Great programme Ken, the Loksound demo was very well done. Don't know who Michael Gross is though, we don't have any of his shows here in the UK! Missing the "eye in the sky" shots, are they due to make a return anytime?
Covered Hopper I lived in the USA for six months in '86.... Mentioning M.J. Fox has made me vaguely remember the show, a family sit-com if I remember correctly. It was a while ago!
P.S. Luke Towan from Aus has made an outstanding paint shaker... Like all his stuff, I've heard him called the V.I.P. of train track and scenery building, watch him!
Hi Ken you have a excellent team why not do a programme called Ken's railroad rehab or something like this would be fantastic going to different subscribers and who really needs you and your teams help and support run a competition or something like this kind Regards from Ireland
KEN: When are you going to post the December 2016 column... I too am a professional actor and though I like him I AM TIRED OF WATCHING MIKE GROSS'S INTERVIEW for Heaven's sake! Come on with the December column, please! JEEZ! Arthur
Memories so vivid watching What's Neat, I get Tremors watch this you tube.
Thank you for having one of my favorite movie persons interviewed.
Great episode. Ken, I'm starting to realize how much work goes into each episode, and it's appreciated out here. For decades to come, modelers will be enjoying and learning from your show.
So cool to see Michael Gross on here. Another great installment Ken!
That ESU rep. was amazing. What a great product, never used one but I will now. Thanks Ken, always great videos.

Great presentation Ken. That Loksound demonstration was awesome. I going to have to keep watching it until I take in all in.
Another great one Ken. Great insight.
I have heard of people using orbital sanders to shake paint too.
I look forward to watching these each month.
Great What's New Ken, thanks again. Looks like I may have to venture to Loksound.
My uncle took all my childhood trains "cause they didn't work anymore.
They still don't work. My uncle is dead. I'm too old. Thank God I found you guys. Stay young and prosper.
I really do like the long explanations of the various sound decoders. ESU still has my vote. Most of my unit are equipped with ESU
thanks... i couldn't resist anymore waiting for "what's neat!" :) Greetings from italy
Man...that Loksound stuff is beyond cool. I've got to get one of those decoders.
I met Matt Herman at the BC modelers meet this May (2018), he did a great seminar via Skype on ESU/Loksound.

...... I have to add, I can see me playing with "speed hold" all day long!! 😁 😉
Will you be at Trainfest this year? I was the one with the decoder request at the Indy shoe.

Very nice video
Hiya, why have the Locsound item when no attempt was made for us to hear anything but that guys voice... engine sound at too low a level...
Steve Coster I fast fed...

He played Michael J. Fox's father on a show back in the 80's.
Covered Hopper I lived in the USA for six months in '86.... Mentioning M.J. Fox has made me vaguely remember the show, a family sit-com if I remember correctly. It was a while ago!
Micheal Gross has a cult following from the “Tremors” series. He plays survivalist Burt Gummer.
The family sitcom with Michael J. Fox was “Family Ties”.
Great Burt... ops, Michael Gross.
P.S. Luke Towan from Aus has made an outstanding paint shaker... Like all his stuff, I've heard him called the V.I.P. of train track and scenery building, watch him!
It's notch 4 for the EMDs.....and ya ain't bleeding the air off. You're pumping up the reservoirs to release the brakes.....either way cool technology

or, you could use a Badger paint mixer.

EMBARRASSING... I JUST FOUND IT... thank you...
