    Great video! Regarding synth compression to beef up the sound - Why would compression impact the character of the sound? Say you have a synth with a default ADSR envelope (full sustain), there already isn't any dynamic range, right? The synth noise isn't louder or quieter in parts - it's constant. So if the purpose of compression is to reduce dynamic range, and there already isn't any, all compression would do is increase the volume of the sound (assuming makeup gain was applied)...

      I see your logic here. And you are right to a degree, but to try explain it differently... Just say you have the sustain full and there's no dynamic range, but you have a second oscillator that's quieter. This means there's parts of that entire sound that are quieter playing at the same time as the loud parts. When you compress a sound like this, it turns up those quieter parts that are part of the whole sound. The quieter sounds could be anything from saturation, overtones, reverb, or anything really. Hope that helped clear things up
