I live in california and am just seeing this in 2025 I would not hesitate for a moment to purchase one of his jackets I was taught to value quality over quantity and I could wear his clothes for years as a hobby sewer he has also inspired my creativity thank you for highlighting his vision
Here in North America we have a long standing tradition of turning old clothes into quilts or rag rugs, but I have never considered using it for fabric weaving before, this is amazing!
Despite that, there is so much fabric waste, so I hope we continue the tradition and update it, also make clothes that last longer so there'e less waste.
The amount of determination, patience and creativity which go into his garments make them priceless. Incredible and beautiful. We can tell he gets such satisfaction from this art.
I’m stunned. Such beautiful modesty and humility in every step. Even in their “self promotion” by denouncing the label of artist or brand. These are priceless yet utilitarian garments that have no age. Bravo
This is the way of the future. This incredible hand-woven fabric hand sewn into stunning garments that get repaired by hand and just get more beautiful the older they are. This is the way people.
It is lovely to see a young person learning a trade from the past and adding their own creativity and modern interpretation of design. A marriage of old and new. It seems as though you have found your ikigai. ❤
I do not know why the UA-cam algorithm had suggested this video to me, maybe because I listen to a lot of 80 Japan City pop and also watch Stitching tutorials, but I can not believe the craftsmanship!! Absolutley beautiful. This video also is so well made, I love the flow and the different sections, the background music, all is coming together so nicely. Why does this designer not have more followers? He is so talented and thoughtful in how he executes his craft!
I'm in 12 minutes of your video and am so totally fascinated by your concept! SAKIORI' never heard for that. How brilliant of you to show your work to the people who furnish you the material. In your new atelier I connect with the Ashford spinning wheel (I learned to spin on it whilst living in New Zealand). The Jackets you show us are oso very classy. I can imagine them to be worn to great occasions like a mariage, an Oskar event, a special day and then...as they get more and more comfortable, to any occasion, every day... the jacket which has the warmth an weave with thick and thin thread, your specuial challenge reminds me of what Co co Chanel used for her 'deux pièces'. Now back to the video.... and thank you so much for sharing !
Oh my goodness, what an amazing young man! I have nothing but the deepest respect and admiration for your passion and integrity to your craft. Beautiful, from start to finish! ❤❤❤
Brilliant idea. This should be a lesson at schools to teach how our GOOD quality and healthy clothing is being made. What a wanderful idea...❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you 😊😊😊😊😊
Your idea to re-weave waste fabric into new fabric for your elegant garment designs is not only smart and considerate, but beautiful. You sharing your process on this video is very generous. I have watched every detail. Thank you. I wish you much success and joy from your work.
Wow. Totally impressed. I am tired of a manufactured world. Hand made (nearly anything) has my respect and attention. Very well done! 72 y grandma in Arkansas, USA
I'm so glad I found this video! I do something similar but with crochet and wasted yarn. I also sew fabric scraps together to make new fabrics and I embroider them afterwards. I usually end up making clothes out out of those fabrics.
So the saying is true: one man's trash is another man's treasure. Thank you so much for this absolutely fascinating look at repurposed clothing. You have given me some inspiration for textile projects I'd like to work on. Love your work, Mr. Kishida!!
You’re amazingly talented and artistic. What you do makes total sense. I respect Japanese culture for continuing to keep their traditional skills alive and in your case going beyond standard Sakitori.
I watched with great interest your work of art, and remembered my mother who used to do practically the same thing. The tools you used were almost the same, and I used to help her to pass all the threads in each of the warps. Looking at you going through the same steps, I can only admire your dedication, and the artistry of the final product. Thank you for posting !❤❤❤
That is impressive and beautiful. It's wonderful that there are still people who can uphold traditions and transform them into something personal and contemporary with love and dedication. Thank you for these private and very touching pictures. Good luck with this project. May it be appreciated by many people. 🙏🌷
This is wonderful. Even if the material wears out quickly, it is repairable. There is too much fast fashion being sold and disposed of too quickly. I love his work and hope it becomes popular. I am looking forward to seeing his work sold in Canada. Wabi Sabi (I hope I have that correct). I myself cherish older and imperfect possessions 💚
I always love upcycling and admire anyone who puts in the effort and care to do it. There is an immense amount of underutilized waste that can be used. Lovely interactions with the mill people, amazing that his sister abd partner help, wonderful work.
What you have created is so amazing to see! I wish I could feel your finished garments with my fingers. This is so different and I can see the quality is the best to be seen. Such a creative mind and to think you have used what would have been thrown away or burnt 🤗👏
Hello! Your work is beautifully minimalist and the concept of no waste so inspiring…. I am a Ceramicist at heart, but I also spin ( saw you wheel in the background) and dye my fleece and yarn for knitting. I hope that you have continued on your creative journey… I am planing a trip to Japan this year… Do you have a studio/ shop where one can visit? From Los Angeles, Ca I wish you a happy and productive 2025.
Wow, this is so impressive! To create beautiful fabric and then garments from waste that would otherwise be burnt is admirable. Kudos to you and also to your partner for her absolutely beautiful ceramic buttons, I hope we see another video of how the buttons are made.
Phenomenal fabric. I wish I could have a garment. Your work is amazing and I’m running my hand over the texture of the weave in my mind. I hope you have much success.
I've never seen such dedication to the profession as he does. The collection of clothes is beautiful. For me this work is priceless and I imagine that a Sakiori is a valuable piece to inherit. My respects to this man and his work.
Love it ,absolutely genius ,great insight in design.Loved the way you make the buttonholes. and of course the buttons ,absolutely perfect. I Love your work 🇬🇧

Wow. Wow. Wow. I love this. This is indeed a craft and you do it with such care and creativity. Marvelous.🙂❤️

Interesting : weaving from bands of used fabric is done in Québec (Canada) too. We make rugs and blankets. We call it "catalognes".

WOW, that makes it even more amazing... It's something that wasn't clearly stated in the video, but makes so much sense...

Definitely an artisan. Unique and beautiful.
As a new weaver, this is very inspiring. Thank you for posting.
Looks like Chanel's tweed haute couture. Absolutely gorgeous!!! Thank you for sharing. ❤

This was a really interesting video. I really enjoyed watching how the clothing was made from start to finish. Tomo Kashida is truly an artist. ❤
The fabric and clothing is beautiful. If I had one of your garments I would feel I am wearing art. Congratulations

I love this so much! I look at this as a "cousin" to kintsugi and view it as one of the many types of things in which Japanese culture excels.
Beautiful and impressive fabric and garments. I'm so grateful that I got to see this excellent video.
