I'm holding out for Lunar Lake. Fingers crossed the efficiency goals Intel has for it matches their expectations, especially for web development, mobile development, photo and video editing. I don't care about the AI stuff at all (thank God Recall is gone for now) and my gaming is done on a PS5 + Switch.

Tom hardware has a article up for leaked lunar lake geekbench scores . Looks good enough for me due to its lower power consumption

Every tech company is pushing this AI thing but a lot of people that I know (including myself) don't care about it. I just turn off all AI assistant on my laptop.

Lunar Lake PCs will be qualified for Copilot + tho. Intel will have an NPU in those chips. So I don’t understand what you mean. Recall is gonna be there everywhere. The only way to remove it might be to wait for someone to figure out how to remove it from the iso.

@@kaushikpranav7696 You can find some early Geekbench 6 scores for Lunar Lake. It is their 2nd gen Ultra equivalent of an i7 U series laptop.
      - Single core 2713
      - Multi-core 10036
I'm looking forward to seeing their most power version of 2nd gen Ultra CPUs or whatever new name they want to call it.

Almost bought this laptop today because of the "great reviews" from other UA-camrs. Thank you for a very detailed and honest review! You earned a subscriber! 🙏

A bit ironic given your last stream, but coverage of these laptops has been pretty low overall and especially after the first days after release I had to actively search UA-cam to find only a few nerdy reviewers excitedly unbox their freshly received Vivobooks.
So your continued coverage on these has been very valuable.

Should I go for the i7 13700h version or ultra 7 155h version?
I am not at all a gamer. My purpose is video editing. Not hardcore but like movie making or music video making. Video length will vary from 15 - 20 minutes. Which one shall I get?

lmfao on the trackpad clicks 🤣
I completely agree on the ethernet port. I use a 2017 Dell Latitude where they put it in the hinge so they could make the rest of the computer thinner, but still have it.

It's maddening because almost NO laptop is really as thin as the top part of the case makes it LOOK. There are more systems where we could extend the bottom chassis to include ethernet.

I got the Ultra 5 125H and found fan noise was a serious issue to me. I had to return it.
I have watched / read a few reviews on several Acer's laptops. It seems that their laptops are a bit worse than other brands when it comes to fan noise...
Acer has just released Swift 14 GO with Snapdragon X Plus 8 Core, which is supposed to have better therma and hence lower fan noisel. But I am skeptical.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy  2 місяці тому +1

Acer as a brand likely is worse than say a more expensive Dell, but having used others like Razer and MSI and Asus, those fans aren't MUCH quieter.
The biggest difference in noise has been moving to ARM.

I tried the surface pro with the OLED screen, and it’s not so much better than the surface laptop to justify getting it in my opinion

I prefer OLED, but I can't stand folks that act like a good LCD isn't good JUST because it's LCD.

Are the new Qualcomm computers really all that great with AI? After recall was pushed back, most copilot stuff happens over the cloud. And for something like image generation or running local LLMs, that stuff is GPU heavy. I don’t know if Qualcomm can outperform a laptop with NVIDIA 3060 or better in AI workflows either. I find the arm chips better for people with battery and weight priorities.

Honestly they should focus on getting people who like having thin and light basic work machines with great battery life into the fold. Imagine how well an ISV certified Thinkpad X Elite would do...

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

If/when software hits the NPU, it COULD be an advantage to have roughly triple the NPU performance, but a lot of that stuff has to come from developers making apps that use the NPU.
It's the huge disappointment of machine learning. We started by trying to make more seamless experiences on device, but now every major tech brand wants a cloud subscription solution.

Do I want an AI PC? No. However, at some point I will need to update my current laptop (maybe in 2029). When that time arrives, most PC will have AI PCs if the trend does not stop or change its path.

I just don't view AI as a deal breaker. Now AI features can be deal breakers especially if you're a creator.
