Thank you for sharing this with us. I was born in the UK and grew up going to a Franciscan Church in Oxford then 25 years ago settled in the Caribbean I am a teacher in the Caribbean and we need homilies like this. I teach Religion at a Catholic School and I notice as the world is changing it is influencing the Caribbean islands. My son introduced me to you and you are a blessing for my family. God bless you.

Jacqueline Barry you're in our prayers. Share these around the island. Buy miraculous medals to give out too. You can convert the island

How are things going? With prayers and the intercession of the Immaculate Conception, have you noticed any changes on the island as regards modesty? I've been praying for over a year for my daughters (ages 17 and 21 now) to dress more modestly (and although they've always dressed more modestly than their most of their peers, they really are obviously dressing as per the immodest culture in which we live) and little by little I have noticed them choosing more modest clothing. It is still not modest enough, but I can see change, and it's very hopeful. I've asked Our Lady to pray with me about this almost daily and sometimes make it the intention for my Rosary. She is interceding, I am sure. I have mentioned to my daughters to dress more modestly on occasion and made the obvious points as to why, and I meet mostly with rolling eyes, and "Oh my gosh, Mom, you're so old fashioned." Really I've tried to keep the comments to a minimum, but stepped up on the prayers a lot. It's making a difference. Just to encourage you, I'd say it wouldn't hurt to make a random encouraging comment once in a while to get people thinking about how they dress, but don't go overboard on remarks and be very kind and gentle, of course. But asking for Mary's intercession is key. I specifically ask for her to impart some of her own modesty and humility to my girls (to myself, too!) and for all the youth. Prayers for you, your island, and all of us, for a more modest and holy world.

Awesome sermon. The TLM is the best way to move up on the ladder of divine ascent. I wish there was a priest like you in my area Father. Penanceware done, one decade.

    Rough notetaking:
Virtue in which exterior actions in deed or word due mode is observed (proper balance). Actions and exterior motions go beyond 6th and 9th commandment violations. In the medieval use of the term, modesty had a broader connotation (actions and motions).
What is due mode in our actions with respect to modesty?
    1. Discussions with those with whom we live -
Mode poses austerity - restraint - moderate the pleasures we take in our exterior actions. E.g. random, irrational foolish behavior.
Austerity - does not exclude all delights, but only excessive. Encourages respect of neigbor.
    2. Exterior goods - clothes, etc.
Quantity in use - humility - simplicity in mode of seeking - being content with those things that happen.
Not giving too much nor too little concern to what we spend.
Not too showy nor ostentatious - dress for Mass.
    3. One's actions which pertain to the body
Ornateness - suitability according to time, place, and order.
Ordermeaning - actions are proportionate and directed to a good end.
The end of modesty is fear of the Lord - gift of the Holy Ghost - turn from inordinate delights to fear of the Lord. Fear of offending Him Whom we should love above all things.
Modesty - the virtue by which we approach any type of authority. Great moderation is necessary the higher the authority the person being addressed has over you.
Reverence and ordering of the Old Mass towards modesty. Teaches us to approach God in His terms not on our terms.
Even higher importance of this virtue for priests who handle Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and who offer the Sacrifice of the Mass.
Women and veiling - beauty of the women was not the center of attention during the Mass. Also a sign of humility for women.
Let all mortal flesh be silenced - song.
Some of the subvirtues under modesty:
Humility - moderates one's desires for excellence.
Studiosity - applying oneself to the study of things pertaining to our state in life. (vs. curiosity).
Eutrapelia - right recreation - bodily actions are decent. Moderates recreation - how much and all actions in play are subordinated to virtue.
Exterior modesty - delight with respect to the senses - clothing leading others to sin (6th and 9th commandment), one's clothing fitting person, place, and order. E.g. colors of Priest's vestments.

Well, that's all well and good but I live in Israel and we only follow Novus Ordum. Some are better than others.
