I went to see it today, and was really impressed by this collection. Sir Elton has great taste (yes, he's wealthy of course, but money doesn't buy style...), and I'm grateful to him for letting the public see his private collection. The photos are absolutely beautiful and inspiring. I loved all of it, because there were multiple exposures, solarised photos, silver prints, nudes, surrealists, collages, hand coloured photos... amongst the most famous Man Ray's and portraits of Dali, Satie, Breton, etc many are iconic. Thank you very much, I recommend it! (btw Sir Elton is the very first artist I ever saw live in the mid 1980's in Paris). It brought back many happy memories for that reason as well :)
Andre Kertesz is Hungarian , not Polish... but ... what a great collection Elton has ...! Stunning works.. one after the other ... I'd love to have seen the exhibition ! It's inspiring to see his passion and eye for it !
The most relaxed and personally self-assured and totally confident in any interviews that I have ever seen of Sir Elton John - is here, and in other places where he speaks about visual art. His view is to be respected, in all events, but his passion and love for something at his own level of genius, in another medium, is just special to absorb. Thank you Tate, Sir Elton, and the artists here whose work we can admire and comprehend, not as critics, but as lovers of people, the human race, things -, everything.
He has some incredible work! As a commercial photographer, I can really relate to his dialogue about these photos. Thank you Elton for promoting this art form.
Fascinating, and Sir Elton's thoughts are certainly from the mind of a creative genius. My late husband, Master Piano Restorer Gary Sage, was part of John Steinbeck's circle. Gary's dear friend was the one who put ships in bottles on Cannery Row in Monterey- so it was a surprise to learn that Elton read Steinbeck growing up.... loved this sharing
It's always a surprise to find out new and surprising facets of someone you think you know. :-) But Tate, letting him say in the video that Kertész was Polish... I wonder what the Hungarians think about it. :-)
I just watched his interview about his collection from a few months ago. Until 35 minutes ago, I didn’t know that Sir Elton and his husband collected modern photography. During his interview with his curator, they discussed how this passion was sparked and what continues to interest the couple. I didn’t notice, until watching this older interview, that most of his collection is black and white. As I watched his home tour of this collection, I was very interested in HOW the art was displayed. At the end, I was surprised to see framed photos on doors. I would have never thought of hanging photos on doors. I am not sure how sturdy the doors need to be to withstand the force of such installations. Sadly, I doubt my husband would be very happy if I proposed replacing some of our bedroom doors with heavy duty materials so I could hang something. Nevertheless, I am contemplating how to think about my basic 6 panel wood bedroom doors. Very interesting, indeed.
It's funny. It's now 2022 and Simon Baker -formerly of the Tate Modern (and, I believe, one of the curators for the "Radical Eye" exhibition of Elton John's rich, eclectic and grandiose collection) - was named, several years ago, director of the MEP (Maison European de la Photographie, in Paris). That's why it's ironic that there hasn't yet been any exhibition, under Mr. Baker, at the MEP which has really approached the quality and importance of "the Elton show". We, in Paris, would love such a show.
Sir John has a wonderful collection of several black chlldren playing in a pond with huge lilypads. Their large watery eyes just penetrate your souls. Please if you know the names of these pieces let me know?
@@musikalitet well. one is more then zero isn´t it? besides that...you needed two years to only find one colorphoto? watch it again...and till the end this time. maybe you will find even more ;)
I have a 1873 frank cooper photo with the persons autograph on he back and the date it was taken no idea of who the person is. can some one give me an email address so that i can send the images and give me an opinion
Way too many images hung too close together. Screams at you instead of speaking softly as photography should do. have some space around the images Elton.

It's beautiful , very good taste , Elton John bring in this World so Many good THINGS . Thanks you very much
What an impressive place where photos are alive, and great collection. Art has to be visible and part of our lives, not inside armored cabinets.
I love him so much ❤

John, op de duur weet je niet meer wat te doen hé? Zwart wit foto's zijn de mooiste.
Someone save him from all that framing!

Does Sir Elton give tours ...LOL !
What about his controversial photos containing children? Everyone is always so quiet about those.

This decadence is embarrassing.
I bet if you won the lottery you would be just as decadent.
