I've own a 06 zx10r, 04 R1 and now a 06 gsxr750 and im finally looking around to get a busa. I used to hate them but i got a chance to ride one yesterday and it's actualy a pretty dam practical machine. Great in town, awesome on the freeway and i live in SC so theres nothing but open long back roads around here.

The so called bike Expert says; "Hayabusa name is supposed to be some kind of falcon that's supposed to be fast", No, Suzuki named it Hayabusa because up until 1999 the fastest bike you could buy was the Honda CBR1100xx Blackbird. Hayabusa actually translates to Peregrine falcon - which yes are fast - but their main prey are Blackbirds.

Actually I don't remember the XX being any faster than the ZX11. When the Hayabusa came out it completely blew both of those bikes out of the water. I've had a 92 ZX11, 04 BUSA & a 07 Busa & I'll tell what, 160 mph the XX & ZX11 are straining, not the Busa.

The faster and harder you get on the throttle, you can feel the G-Force trying to pull you off, so as long as you keep your hands on the grips you'll be ok. You also have the option in having either the rear seat or the hump on the rear. The hump will keep you from sliding off the back of the bike.
You also want to keep your head down near the tank and below the windscreen to keep the wind blast from blowing you off the bike. With the double-bubble windscreen, I can sit upright until 140.

VALUE goes to the Bandit. I put $3k change in my pocket when I bought my 1250. I added $750 in a TFi box, exhaust, air filter, and 17 tooth front, and my 0-60's are sub 3 seconds, too! With an $8k bike, I have gone 166MPH, and that was plenty! Knee dragging speed in the twisties? maybe not, but CERTAINLY fast enough for my tastes. A better LOOKING ride than either 'Busa or ZX, it left me with change for gas, and a seat for the ladies to ride on!

    Ever ridden one?
My first weekend at one of the country's most technical tracks (Grattan Raceway) I had my knee on the ground all over the place (without dumping the bike . . .).
    watch?v=aj7gyjqzlGU
The reputation of this bike being an unwieldy beast is unfounded. I was amazed at how this thing swims through corners.
And once you're on a straight, you're gone!

The 2007+ Busa'a are redesigned with a slightly larger motor, has about 190 HP. This means it is exceeding 200 mph, and with it's wind tunnel designed body, there is no shaking or vibration.
The Busa looks the way it looks to make it aerodynamically capable of slicing through the air. The ZX-12 couldn't keep up with the Busa, so Kawi, brought out the ZX-14, which still couldn't outrun the old Busa. The redesigned Busa, walks away from the ZX-14,, even with the limiter.

Have the 2006 LE Hayabusa in pearl white w/silver.Very sweet looking bike and nothing iv ever been on comes close.Perfect 10s in the comfort and power. But it does handle like a pig in the corners. All in all highly recomemend this bike but not for frist time riders.

I once thought i was fast on a Blackbird to the day i bought a Hayabusa second generation. It was really fast. The day i mounted a turbo on that Hayabusa it became insanely fast and now it have 350 hp and it will probably be the fastest bike i ever will drive. It just passes everything without any hesitation on the highest gear.

    • @BibtheBoulder

A HEAVY BIKE with a very powerfull engine like the busa is a good thing it keeps it planted on the road, lighter bikes like the feather weight R1 are more nimble but twitchy and bounce around a lot, weight is a good thing on 2 wheels with an engine pushing out 198 Hp!!

I love busa's. I will never own one... most I'll go up to is a liter bike eventually. MAD PROPS TO PEOPLE WHO RIDE THEM cuz they are fuckin scary I'd imagine. I ride a cbr250r right now I just got into sports bike so I wanted to start slow but MAN i respect busa riders that manage not to crash and die... these bikes are amazing as well. zx14r 12 looks like it has some decent competition brought to the table, but they are both great bikes!

I got a 2015. bike list for comparison:1975 MX80, top speed 58mph. fun but a bit heavy in the middle, still flew through the air like a boss/1976 Yz100 Mono-shock, a bit tall for a 100 but the thing had wings and very stable in the dirt, top speed 62 mph/1974 CB350 twin, top speed 95 mph, wheelies were good but that was about it/1976 CB750F modified, top speed well over 140 mph, had single disk and one drum which made corners extremely challenging and the wobble would last for days if you made an error/1978 KZ650 modified, top speed well over 140mph1000 carbs a timing advance and a kerker this little beastie would shoot a foot long blue flame during deceleration and burn that thin mint tire through the first three gears. cornering, not real pleasurable but in typical Kawasaki fashion strait line was always impressive/2004 V-Max, top speed 130 yawnish mph with a tire hop that will put your arms to sleep on the wrong roads but looked great! and the motor had awesome sound. best thing to do on a V-Max besides look cool?, drifting! the stock V-Max can drift so well even a new rider could easily figure it out and it is fairy comfortable. brakes are really good too which can get you in trouble as the thing is so heavy in emergency situations you will break an ankle planting a foot out of sheer panic when that brick grabs those rotors hard/1998 GPZ1100 modified, top speed better part of 150mph. its a GPZ. does about everything but when you buy one used chances are it won't last long so buy them to rebuild and enjoy. comfortable and fast, wheelies well, corners really well with a 190 on the back and modern compounds. looks awesome when restored/2007 R1. Awesome. does it all and never pegged it but I got 170 on the speedo in 5th still pulling. Corners Fantastic as you can be extremely reckless with an R1 and pull off just about anything with a simple tug on the brake a push on the rear and a blip or release of the fly by wire. looks are challenged but I liked it. problem, 07-08 R1 has a stator the size of a small dog housed in the left casement and if you buy used chances are someone replaced that 10lbs of crap and lost one of those index pins. if you do not have both index pins the stator will actually come loose as it's outer bearing is the side case and if it does it will wipe out the entire motor or worse, break loose and rip your left leg off at the shin. my case was backed off about 1/8th of an inch when I noticed all the motor oil on my left leg and almost all the cover bolts were loose, like as in finger tight. if you buy one that is good I recommend replacing those screws with studs...ya/2005 Ducati 999. Beast! out corners anything on the market still. Beautiful. when you start a 999 the ground shakes which is so bad ass... anyway, seating is awesome, comfortable enough for a long ride BUT its sooo pretty your always going to worry in a corner. oh.. word of advice if your considering one.. like a Magwai.. do not get it wet. electronics fail hard. Rev limiter hits at 163 with 44 tooth and when it hits, you may as well be slamming on the brakes its that rough/2007 MV Augusta F41000S. The Looks! The Sounds! The Sheer Force of full throttle hooliganism unrivaled to date! When an MV is buzzing down the freeway the pipes literally sound like an organ. Uncomfortable is an understatement. When you ride an MV you ride it to fight it for lack of a better terminology. Seat sucks, you have to have a size 55 ass to fill it and you slide BUT it is doable until you hit a corner, then the fear sets in. here is a motorcycle high up on the food chain of dollars per pound of machine that is top heavy and totally relies on your knowledge of gravity vs. pavement temp vs. tire grip vs. cost of repairs. too expensive to push it much harder than the R1 if it can be on the unsure roads of Southern California. top speed I got was 170mph and I was being stupid so never looked after that and backed off but no way it will hit 192mph claimed. problem.. any used MV no matter the mileage is not road worthy and here is why.. most all MV F models have been flogged by some dude who dropped 30K and did 8000 miles of nothing but track time. 8000 miles track = 16 to 25K street since these are not race bikes and have bearing failures due to bad manufacturing. before you buy an MV call Fast By Ferracci and ask if they have a motor and how much. second, find a shop that is willing to work on one and lastly, save up for a 3500$ crankshaft as well as a new radiator as the upper breaks from design errors. oh.. MV Augusta warranty boss says the pre 2010 motors are only rated to 15000 miles. mine was in three shops for a total of 16 months before I got it back and thanks to a bad shop ruining the stock crankshaft by cutting into the counter weight and not fessing up (3500$ is a big oopsie) they decided to instead buy me a 4000$ used motor. total bill to the warranty company was 11, 500$. rode it to work and it overheated so.. now i have a 2015 Busa/2015 Busa. Corners almost as good as the R1 into the turn as the brakes are similar but then your in heavy which turns the Busa into a brick for a moment until the grip comes on then it starts to relax like the GPZ but hit that exit? it comes out of the corner like the 999 only much harder 20 feet later. The Busa is a challenge and yes, I get smoked down hill on corners but this is an all stocker with pilot 4's I put on thinking el nino was going to drop buckets.. stock Busa brakes fade after 5 min of hard corners on stock fluid but uphill? up hill the Busa is not so easy to get away from as it drops speed fast when you disengage allowing you to mostly lug it through the curve, buckle down on that tank and blast out of the corner. don't be in too low a gear though or your sideways which is not fun. ABS is a great addition to the bike. pads all wear even but the stockers are gone around 7K. stock tires lasted 4K. Pilot 4? well over half the tread left no chicken strip rear 1/8th front but they get loose much more than I like. mods? the Busa would make me smile instead of take that breath before entering a corner. top speed? 185 is easy but I don't have GPS so, dunno but at 185 your nowhere near the redline/.going fast is only half the battle and Hyabusa already taught us that. combine all the elements of a super mchine together into a formula..length of run.. durability, performance and looks. hyabusa is #1

Absolutely not for amateurs!!! I had an 04 & 07 models w/TRE's. Speedo would hit 185 mph easier than anything else. Dad rode my ZX11 years earlier ONCE! He didn't even want to touch the Busa's. I'll get another one someday. Bad thing is they attract the wrong attention. I do miss that high that only major speed can give you.

It's a well made, sought after engine that has been turbocharged and used in motorcycle drag racing. Also, kit car builders use the stock motor in cars.
My 2003 Busa has 35,000 miles on it, and runs just as smooth as the day I bought it. Any motor can have problems, but it is just as reliable as any other motorcycle engine.
There aren't any recalls or maintenance issues with it, even when run at top speeds.

the first gen. was good for 340 km/h stock+it's more tuner friendly then most other bikes, sure the busa it's not fancy like the hp 4....u have tons of vids of tuned busas on youtube, even with 500+ hp, for a few thousand bucks you still can have a reliable turbo busa from 250 hp and up, the hayabusa has one of the most durable engines ever in the bike world!

The busa is not like a top fuel dragster at all unless you've turned into a...top fuel dragster. The main strength of it is acceleration and speed but it can work very well in the twisties as far as having fun due to the amount of torque it makes down low. You hit the twisties in the mountains and never leave 2nd gear. It's the best all around bike available-speed, xcelaration, comfort, looks and handling. If all you want is handling, don't buy this bike. And you're right Suzuki rules!

  • @forceofnature
    @forceofnature 18 років тому +1

Well if your talking drag track you cant beat the busa for available mods. They turn pretty well but not nearly as well as the 600 and 1K bikes. ZX14 is getting lots of love from some modders but its good Kawasaki came out with the 14. Now Suzuki will have to counter it with something. I hope they dont dissapoint mid 2007.

Keep in mind that this video is several years old.. the busa on this video is the first year 1999 model and would do 194 off the showroom. In late 2000 fear on an import ban led to an accord between japanese and european manufacturers to govern the top speed to around 186.

The Busa was deemed the fastest Production bike.
I don't recall ever seeing a Tomahawk in a dealership showroom.

Until you're out racing on the track and see a Hayabusa fly past you. Then you'll say:
    "Damn, I wish I didn't spend $5000 more for a shittier bike".

that is a really good explanation! it's hard to explain to new riders that of all the skills you need to learn when riding (newbies or veterans) is...restraint!

I own a 2000 busa and i like the ZX-14 as well. Other busa owners who've tried or bought a 14 state it's a better overall bike stock and so far, light bolt on mods. Brocks Bolt on project Zx-14 just did 200mph at maxton. It's just piped, mapped, airfilter and ceramic bearings. Engine hasn't even been opened. Those who have looked into the engine state the 1352cc engine has MUCH room for improvement in it's heads.

Sure the zx10, gixxer, and r1 are just as quick or quicker on the 1/4 mile or leave the busa almost a lap behind on the track, but they can't get up to the 186-194mph range. Ride the liter bikes 150 miles and see who is still comfty and wants to ride some more! The busa and zx14 are highway eaters!

The Hayabusa is for fat guys who don't like to turn, or squids who just want to say that they have the fastest production bike. On the track my 954rr would tear a busa up.

So if I read your reply correctly, you are admitting that the 1999-2000 Busa which has not been limited in speed like the later models, and is the bike shown in this video, is faster then all the bikes you listed. This also means your comment that a lot of literbikes have caught up to the Busa is not true.
FYI: You can easily remove the limiter on the later year Busa's by cutting one wire and connecting a 6-ohm resistor in series of the wire. The Busa II that came out in 2007, is faster.

True. I have an '06 Busa and I know from experience that the squids just don't have any idea of how much power it has. Yes, a 600cc bike is better on the track...but I don't ride on the track. And every bike I've ever come up against on the freeway has been left far, far behind me. I even use a GoPro cam to film it.
Typical comment from squid:"Anyone can ride fast in a straight line!" Me:"So, you've never ridden a Busa, have you?" Squid:"No...but that's not the point!" Me:"Yeah it is."

I paid $11k for mine, brand new. Mine is a 2003 40th Anniversary Edition, and it is still scary fast. You have to put all your weight on the bars, and only give it a quarter turn on the throttle to do 2.4 seconds. Otherwise the front wheel will come off the ground, and it will flip over backwards. And if you aren't holding tight on the bars, it will leave without you!!

It's obvious you know nothing about these two bikes, or motorcycles at all.
There is an agreement between the manufactures to electronically limit the speeds of motorcycles to 300 kph, which is about 186 mph. this was done voluntarily to keep the government from stepping in. On the Busa, it is very easy to bypass this limiter. The 1999 and 2000 Busa, had no limiter, so with 175 HP, it can do about 198 mph, which is the same speed the 2001 and newer Busa's can do.

It all depends if you like having your eyeballs pushed into the back of your head from the acceleration. Or even after owning one for six years, you still get a shit eating grin on your face when you get done riding.
Most motorcycles are fast, but only a very few have so much excess horsepower and torque, that feel like you just went to warp factor five, just by cracking open the throttle 1/2 inch.
Go test drive a 500HP Z06 Vette, then you will understand what it feels like to ride a Busa

Ya, I've seen crashes in parking lots a few times. One was a guy who bought an R6 as his first bike and followed some friends to Starbucks. He gave it a little too much throttle while behind three other bikes, hit one bike, panicked, gave more gas, the bike went the wrong way up the drive-thru, then through the hedges!! $2000 damage on a week old bike. Get a used 250cc bike, ride it for a full year (12 mo) then upgrade. Hope you never see a mangled body, not pretty. Very gross.

Imagine playing an xbox game for the first time in expert mode. You will instantly get killed because things happen really fast. Also, it is hard to aim because the controls are twitchy, so you miss because you over-shoot your target. It is exactly the same thing with high performance cars/motorcycles. It only takes a fraction of a second to lose control and hit a car/ tree, but unlike a video game, you can get seriously injured or dead. I've seen new riders crash an R6 in a parking lot.

  • @brianlp
    @brianlp  15 років тому

As Suzuki's site says, the Busa is for experienced riders. People who don't ride bikes, have no clue how much they don't know about riding. Just like getting a Ferrari, as your first car, it's a very fast performance car, which means it is really twitchy. Things happen really fast when you want to turn or accelerate, which is what you want as an experienced driver. For the inexperienced, you will end up crashing into a tree, on a Busa, you'll hit a tree or car, but you will probably die.

The Y2K is definitely the fastest, but it is also way to expensive for most riders. $12,000 for the Busa as opposed to the $100,000 plus price tag for the Y2K.......uh, I'll take the Busa thank you. Also, I find it hard to reach 110 to 140mph on most public roads with all the traffic these days so I doubt that any one will come close to 389mph out there. I must say though, that if I had 100grand to spare, a Y2K would be cool as hell.
