Life after high school straight up sucks especially with the pressure to find scholarships to ultimately slightly ease the debt after college which I'd be left hopeless wondering how to pay it off. It's just downright repulsive how colleges ignore ur ambition over ur money, at least that's how it feels to me
Well, yeah. This is what it is. Don’t see this changing anytime soon, though.
This is why I never went to college the fact that there is no guarantee that you will be able to pay for the massive debt you get for going makes colleges essentially worthless.
Most people around my community can afford this. I’ve seen 2 siblings go to college and it wasn’t that bad because of certain scholarships. However, I do know it’s very expensive to us too and I get that some people don’t have enough money to pay for college and I also think they should decrease prices
Trying to apply to schools abroad has been the biggest hassle because of this singular reason, because it’s pretty straightforward in my home country.
im genuinely curious why would you want to go to school in (im assuming) America and not another country?

Before, I planned to go into the field of computing and become some sort of server analyst or a server technician at the time. However, I ultimately didn't go to school because I didn't want to put 49k towards my tuition and instead focused on experience. Sometimes, experience still can get you a job, but a lot of times I was turned away since I didn't have a degree to my name. Also wanted to go into the field of medicine but again, that's too expensive.
One thing I really wish school taught me was how to manage my finances though, because I can easily see how people can drown in debt well before they're graduated. Especially when you're fresh out of high school, it's way too easy to ruin your credit, which is pretty much needed for a lot of things

That opening is why people what are opposed to student loans and abolishing student loan debt have been saying for years.
When schools can charge whatever they want they’ll charge more and more.
I say: Abolish student loans. Stop letting colleges trick students into sinking themselves into eternal debt for a social sciences degree.
This is the two example of why you need federal regulation toward the college industry. Free market ain't going to fix it unless they a way to easily and cheaper way to get those degree

Anyway, yes. I fully support the online competitors to colleges which make their money by selling skills rather than a worthless piece of paper.
I think that people who want to go to college should, but free online courses should be avaliable. For example, I have learnt abstract algebra from an online textbook, even though I shouldn't have learnt it yet. And those free online courses should exist for every level: Undergraduate, graduate, PhD etc. Those courses should also issue a diploma after a final test, and businesses should not discriminate between people who have a diploma from an online course or people who have a diploma from college. That is the solution.

I went to college when I was 19 years old. I could only afford one semester and after that. I havent ever been able to afford to go back. It's so expensive without loans
Imagine going to college for 4 years only to get paid minimum wage.
My parents insisted on my getting a "useful" degree (rather than what interested me), which was a LOT more expensive for them and still resulted in a useless bachelor's when I couldn't make it through the internship. Only about half of people who start a postsecondary degree complete it, and only about half of those that complete a degree get a job requiring it. So study what you feel passionate about, even if it means your parents drop you like a hot potato. It's your life, not theirs.
In Scotland, people born here are entitled to free university education for their first degree and my parents told me I can stay at their house until I graduate from university (I'm still in high school). Lots of work I do in class has become digital so hopefully open source books become standard when I graduate high school.
same here in saudi

There’s so many ways to make money nowadays, it outshines what u can do with a degree. It’s just luck and hard work.
It hard work (discipline and working as much as you mentally can), smart work (planning and being efficient) and luck (which is something that is out of our control so we shouldn't put too much pressure into it but always be aware of it) .....
Weird that it has been exactly 5 days since u posted this comment as I reply
There are many ways to make money these days. Unfortunately working class or impoverished citizens are left out by these insane college costs

I don't want to go to college but the field I want to be in requires a degree.
As a graduate, I've got one piece of advice to anyone looking to get a degree (in a field where it's not actually required):
Don't.
4 years of experience in the field is 10x more valuable than almost any bachelor's degree. Not only that, but instead of charging you for the privilege of learning, you are paid, and actually contribute to society.
Your life is not over if you don't go to college, no matter what the corrupt school systems try and tell you. And if you're willing to learn how to work with your hands, electricians and plumbers can make hundreds of thousands a year - no calculus required. No predatory loans or indoctrination needed. Just actually working and doing something for the world.
Obviously, certain jobs (particularly doctors) have extremely stringent requirements (most of which are for good reason), so I'm not talking about those.
ok... I agree with you some jobs need Professionalism like Med but not all jobs need Degree
Yeah, i am from a less developed country than the us. I'm jealous that Americans can make a lot of money without needing bachelor's degree. in my country if you don't have bachelor's degree you get little salary and it's kinda of hard to make a living (if you're living in an important city)

I’m really glad you covered this. I recently fell where I didn’t want to continue college anymore. I wanted to do other things, real estate and other endeavors. My mom, being a foreign mom, basically threatened for me to go back to college. Yea college isn’t the worst path. But it isn’t the best either. I’m going to college and don’t even know what I want to study, just doing general studies. I want to do something bigger than me, and college isn’t part of that plan.
Please don’t do it, you can do better, just get a retail job or something, don’t put yourself through college. College is the worst path, it’s a load of shite.
I did one semester in community college, then quit. I went to a trade school that does job placement upon graduation, and it literally changed my life. No prospective employer cares as much about anything as they do about *_experience._* If you're broke and fresh out of college, you have no real world experience. If your school gets your foot in the door somewhere, that first job *_is_* your experience for your next higher-paying job, and when you start working, you'll be under a much smaller cloud of debt. You might be surprised, there's some kind of trade school for almost anything you might be interested in. If the top-tier roles in your preferred industry require a traditional college degree, go to a trade school to get hired by an employer that will pay for your college education.
i go to vocational college, which more focused on experience and skill
You are so right!! This is great advice and what I've been telling high schoolars and young adults for the past 3 years!!! I'm so happy to see someone else say the exact thing 🙌
Yep, that's my plan. I do aspire to be an engineer (don't know what sector yet), hoping that once the pandemic is over that there's one nearby that I can go to.
One thing you didn’t mention was going to junior/community colleges. Although most people want the “college experience”, going to a community college and getting my basics out of the way saved me tens of thousands of dollars.
Only problem with that these days is that most schools in my area have the stipulation "For first-time freshman only" on their scholarships, including the large scholarship every high-scholar gets once they graduate. Going to a community college might be cheaper, but then you cant get the $15-30k of scholarships you could get from the big university, you just have to pay them for all your general classes as well.
@@MineHero367 I'm not 100% sure of your situation but in my case it's still cheaper to go to community college first than to get the "big" scholarship from a university. I can get my general classes out of the way. I think that the biggest lie that schools are telling us is that we all have to go to college after high school. It’s just a natural assumption during your senior year that you will go to college and for many people, it seems like the only option. Instead of going to college, I just went to a local trade school and learned web development. After a couple weeks of job hunting, I got a job as a junior developer. It didn’t pay much, but it was enough for me to move out of my parents house and rent an apartment. Also, it gave me valuable experience. When I got my next job, I beat out 5 other people who were CS graduates fresh out of college because I had more experience than them. I now earn 90k a year and I am completely debt free. My advice is to only go to college if you want to pursue a career where a college degree is absolutely necessary. Otherwise you’re shooting yourself in the foot by wasting 4+ years of your life and getting yourself into thousands of dollars of debt.

@@ComboMon- ok thx i thought trade school was some sort of stock trading school
"Your school is lying to you"
Me:- Teach me how to pay taxes and get money?
Teachers:- Mitochondira is the powerhouse of the cell.
Me: HOW DO I GET A JOB?!
Teachers:- Find "X".
School is literally useless if they say they prepare us for the future but don't teach us how to pay taxes, buy a house or get a job.
Don't blame the teacher though. If we don't teach you what the school wants us to teach you, we get fired or criticized for not being good teachers. Most of the time we are just as bored teaching you the same old stuff as you are learning it. At least for me, I try my best to incorporate a practical application into the lessons I'm required to teach so that any student, no matter what career they plan on going into, can get something useful out of it.
@@peachkey2 well if you finish teaching a little early, why not make small financial lessons or something like that for the meantime anyway?
Yes u am, I'm going into entomology and I'm actually looking at different colleges both in and out of state currently. Its really hard to navigate right now especially and its really hard to find people in my chosen field to talk bout it with which is quite annoying.
I like that you provided us with ✨KNOWLEDGE✨
I’m not going to college, whether I do or don’t I’m still gonna end up homeless and jobless
@@abdulgill5013 my prize is out of reach, someone would literally need to pay for everything for me for like, years before I could maybe get my own source of money
in the case of my college it's definitely the college's end of not responding to any financial questions. the college subreddit is literally more responsive and helpful than the administration.
In my country the college is free but you must have really good grades, I am currently 15 years old and went several times back to school in the last 3 summers because I had F's in many of the subjects including Maths, Estonian, and Russian. But here I am living a free life listening to 90s songs and I even own a nice 90s car (cost 3500€) I don't even have my car license yet but if I get one, ill be one happy Estonian.
I’m happy to be back watching you
As someone who has always wanted to be a game designer, I plan on going to college, and though I am excited, the cost makes me nervous.
I also might try to get a degree in cooking and/or composing.
Life Noggin: Your school is lying to you!
Me: I am 4 Parallel Universes ahead of you.
Woah, thank you for posting this vid Blocko. Im in high school and hadn't made the decision of going to college yet. This video made me know about the scummy thing that colleges do... and because of that, I'm unsure if I want to go to college...
Also, I and other viewers of yours missed you too (:
If you don't go you're missing out on the best years of your life. Just go abroad where things are hundreds of times cheaper :) european life ain't that bad
@@4_real_bruh I mean, I'm still undecided... I might do it. Even if it kills me... and what did you say about european life? I'd like to know
@@firstlast8816 european life is pretty cool, studying abroad is also quite an experience. It's cool to be in control of your own life, do what you want when you want it and it's just lovely as a whole.
I study Computer Science in Germany, am originally from Israel :)
I'm currently a senior in high school and plan to go to a community college for Auto Body Technology, and already did a school visit for my current high school and loved it! My brother already had some FAFSA help and my mom is helping me do that again. She and I do plan on going to a private college visit there, so she can get a idea on how it is.
“Your school is lying to you!”
About? Ethics, politics, critical thinking, history?
This is actually scary, with tuition prices skyrocketing, you might be eligible to apply for larger loans. However if you decide to drop out of college last minute you can be in a lifetime amount of debt and more
@@LillyLemonzzz14 OH MY GOD WHAT A CUTE PFP! IT REMINDS ME OF MURAKAMI FLOWERS
Joining the Navy right after high school was probably the best decision I have ever made. Did 4 years, got out and now my college is covered from associates all the way to law school. Illinois veteran grant and post 9/11 gi bill.
Same here after US Army! Graduated with zero debt ! It was Gucci getting 3000.00 per month while never paying Tution was Gucci
That’s what I would have done, as I was interested in the Air Force, but I got bad eyes
@@kulahog6495 Plenty of mfkers in the Navy and Coast Guard wear glasses. Only thing you cannot wear are contacts. They also do a corrective surgery while you in for free
Thank you for this video! Another thing I would add: Don't feel pressured to jump into college immediately after High School. Feel free to take a leap year to gain work experience and accumulate money so you can enjoy the college experience with less stress due to finances.
Been 2 years since ive watched life noggin and now im back
These reasons and more are why non profit remote colleges like WGU exist. Low cost, materials provided, all course can be tested out of, and lots of student support.
I'm a High school junior. The thought of college terrifies me! Any advice would help me a lot :)
Get a part time job and once your 18 start researching about investing into stocks and don't buy things which you don't want. Although you can spend abit of money for yourself like as a gift.
Also don't think about college currently and focus on highschool mainly
Make sure to get a tour of the campus and connect with current students to see what their thoughts are. Definitely don't fret about what your major will be since everyone takes gen eds freshman year. Most importantly enjoy your last few years of high school :)
If you're thinking of going for any degree that isn't in a STEM, medical, or law field then just don't go. You'll end up with a worthless degree that you just paid 10s of thousands for. Make sure the degree you want is actually worth paying that huge amount for.
yay you made a new video :D i missed your videos so much and this video is very correct
The fact that no one has any skills coming out of high school, is the reason college gets away with this crap. An 18 year old shouldn't have to go to 2-6 more years before they poses the basic skills to be hired.
Thank you for watching! I'm happy to be back! QUESTION: What are you studying / planning on studying? Check out our sponsor, Mos! www.mos.com/r/shhhh/?
