  • My Daddy Long Legs (私のあしながおじさん Watashi No Ashinaga Ojisan?) is a 1990 Japanese anime television series based on the novel Daddy-Long-Legs written by Jean Webster. The show was part of the container World Masterpiece Theater produced by Nippon Animation studios and was awarded the Excellent Movie Award for Television by the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs for Children in 1990.
Webster's story had been adapted into anime previously by Tatsunoko Productions in 1979 with the TV special Ashinaga Ojisan, which was directed by Masakazu Higuchi. The aforementioned special was dubbed in English and released in the US and is otherwise unrelated to this television series.

Ah he obviously touched her hand on purpose, I guess he was trying to from the beginning lol. He's so funny and cute, but if we all didn't like him, it would just be creepy lmao

+musicclasical Julia says he 27 and Judy would be around 15 or 16. So about an 11 year age difference. Back then it wasn't a big deal for there to be such a big age difference between couples.

+Asa Aulia Different era, different time.
He wouldn't have been considered a pedo in the 1900's by any means. In fact, SO many of these older novels right up to the early - even mid 1900's feature big age differences.
      For example:
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm - Rebecca is 17 years younger than Mr. Alan Ladd (Mr. Aladdin).
War and Peace: Pierre and Natasha are separated by 20 or so years. Maybe a bit more too. Prince Andrie who also fell in love with Natasha is again, much older than her.
Far From the Madding Crowd: Gabriel is 10 years older than Bathsheba. Another man who is psychotically in love with her, Mr. Boldwood, is much older than her.
Jane Eyre: Mr. Rochester is almost 20 years older than Jane - I think 17/18 years difference.
Little Women Series: The German Professor, Friedrich Bhaer is much older than Jo March.
Gone With the Wind: Rhett Butler is quite a few years older than Scarlett. Even Scarlett's parents had a big age gap (over 25 years) and Scarlett's sister's beau is MUCH older than her as well.
Emily of New Moon Series: If he had won (and I SO WISH he had!), Dean would have been 21 years older than Emily.
Like I said...very common in older books.

+Lemon Drops This is an old comment but... when I read you wishing Dean had won, I went "NO! 😱" Lol He gave me the creeps right from the beginning.

    • @sarcasticsugar4466

fr33tobem3 I've always been a fan of Dean. He was a well written character - subtle but intriguing. He was jealous, possessive, bitter and sardonic - yet extremely cultured, well read, tender and smart. What he desperately needed was love in his life to soften his darker points; to ease the pain that life constantly brought him. When he was with Emily, the best was illuminated out in him - he was the most charming gentleman (with a bit of bad boy in the mix).
Such a shame that Emily ended up with Teddy - a character barely described or even penned down. We hardly know anything of him and his personality has all the range of a paperclip. The author did not develop him at all and next to Dean who flits in and out of all three books in large chunks, Teddy remains a pale, uninteresting shadow. All we know is that Emily loved Teddy because he was Teddy - that explains absolutely nothing, especially as that Teddy is a satellite character who doesn't have enough personality to stand on his own.
No, I'll never go back on saying it should have been Dean/Emily.

    • @fr33tobem3
      @fr33tobem3 8 років тому +1

Lemon Drops I see your point. I have wished that Montgomery had written Teddy more. Especially in the third book... The glimpses she gave into his character showed him to be a sensitive, caring individual, though. Creative, with a passion for life and showcasing his talent to the world - much like Emily with her writing. And he really did care for Emily the same way she did for him.
Dean loved the idea of Emily more than anything, I thought. When he told her, after saving her the day they met, that her life belonged to him now... and "I think I'll wait for you"... it gave me a bad taste. He wanted to possess her body, spirit, and soul. It's like she couldn't be her own person around him. And then when he felt her writing was taking her from him, he discouraged her from it. No, I think Emily wouldn't have thrived as his bride.
Dean would have been the happiest man alive, no doubt about it. But should he really have based his dreams of happiness on Emily?
