In the numbers round, I factored the target (109 x 3 x 2 = 654) for these solutions:
75 / 3 = 25
25 x 4 = 100
100 + 9 = 109
109 x 6 = 654
9 x 4 = 36
36 - 2 = 34
75 + 34 = 109
109 x 6 = 654
Factoring is something that more _Countdown_ contestants should do if they want to win.
In the sixth round, there actually was a six: YAUPON. It's a plant also known as the yaupon holly because it's in the holly family and has spiky, stiff green leaves and bright red berries. Indigenous Americans used to brew a tea from the berries and now it's a common decorative shrub. I live in the U. S., so I got that at once, but I don't think a British panel would necessarily be familiar with the plant.
(2 x 4) x 75 = 600, plus 9 x 6 = 54
(75 - 3) x 9 = 648
648 + 6 = 654
4 x 2 is 8 x 75 is 600
9 x 6 is 54 add it on 654
Did no one see that (2 x 4) x 75 = 600, plus 9 x 6 = 54? It fairly leaps off the screen.
