Vision 130 - Renew and Reimagine for 2034

The beginning of new and exciting things to come, with the University of the Free State (UFS) being recognised and acknowledged by its peers and society as a top-tier university in South Africa, ranked among the best in the world.
On 29 November 2022, Prof Francis Petersen - Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the UFS - took guests attending the Vision 130 launch on a journey to where the University of the Free State sees itself in 2034 when it will celebrate 130 years of existence. The event, hosted on the Bloemfontein Campus, was attended by staff, student representatives, alumni, members of the UFS Council, and external stakeholders.

Great to see this inspirational forward thinking and goal setting. If at all we must just not make this a politically correct statement as we should not forget the past and how we got to where we are and where we are going. We cannot eliminate history by renaming and removing historical features, as foundation to where the institution stands today, good or bad.
We must not loose the identity of UFS to political flavouring of the day, extremism and wokeness. Indeed adapt to current and future challenges and align these to achieve a sustainable institution.
