    I absolutely love your videos. No intro and no begging for likes and subs before I have even watched. You explain the purpose of the video and get right to the info. I really hate it when a video says I will see/learn Process A, but first we need to make breakfast, feed chickens, fix fence, water pigs,and 25 minutes later we can start Process A after another lengthy explanation. Thank you for continuing to show your successes, failures, goals and obstacles. You have grown into an amazing garden over the years and I love it all.

    At first I wasn't quite a "fan" of the channel, perhaps I got the wrong impression, but I noticed after watching a couple of video's I became addicted to them. You are probably one of the most humblest of persons. I must say, and you can see this as a tip perhaps - I was a fan of the "series" you did about tomatoes. I've been watching Red Gardens for about a year now and I keep coming back because the author clearly cares about the value of objectivity. He presents what he has learned in an honest way and seems to have no problem pointing out what he have have done wrong and leaves the reader to draw their own conclusions from his research. Clearly a scientifically minded individual which is such a breath of fresh air from the majority of others who claim to have all the answers, oversimplify to a fault or worst of all are just selling product disguised as advice. Bravo!!

    Hurrah! It's a brilliant learning synposis. - - I have no idea why the channel views have plateaued. It's the best horticultural channel I have found, in years of searching. Some people want content that affirms their biases and political learnings. Most people, I think, love polemic, and easy answers, not genuine learning, an X-ism or an anti-Y-ology; trumpets, sabres and flags.

    It's has been great following along with you and the development of RED Gardens over the past five years. I imagine you got a significant surge in viewership as Covid home bound people turned to gardening, and I wouldn't be surprised if that source of surge has plateaued. I hope your great channel has contributed to keeping many of them as life-long gardeners. As always, thank you, Bruce, for all you do and share.

    • @REDGardens
      @REDGardens  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it did get that initial surge, but basically plateaued since then. I watched in 2021 and even moreso in 2020 the huge surge in first time gardeners. These were people that couldn't even identify when to harvest a zuchinni. I know the seed shortage of 2020 was very real and across many of the biggest suppliers. I also seen many of these influxes of new people interested in foraging and medicinal herbs as well. I suppose ultimately it has been more people interested in self sufficiency and less reliance on the supply chain. This has also been seen in people trying to escape into more rural areas where they can do just that.

    Hello Red Gardens! I've just subscribed to your channel! Something that I have found extremely useful last year - I run a 30 bed kitchen garden for a client, we set it up over 18 months and were growing and building at the same time last year. We have a 30 ft tunnel in which we grew tomatoes, melons, peppers, aubergines, and grow salads during the winter. I grew all our Augbergines from seed, but bought just one different variety in - it was the only one that got mould on it, but what stopped that dead in it's tracks was a spray of Colloidal Silver. This is fabulous diulted, as it kills the nasties, bolsters the plants and makes for healthy young plants. I dilute 20ppm by 50% and have a spray bottle handy.

    Regarding carrots. Try adding Perlite to the soil bed. Up to 50%. Carrot roots need phosphorous, calcium and magnesium to grow. When too much nitrogen is in the soil you get the 'hairy' carrots. The 'hair-roots' are searching for nitrogen. The only time nitrogen is needed is at the very start. And only a small amount on the top layer of soil. Love your channel. Keep up the great educational work.

I use different techniques depending on the crops I'm growing based on your experiences. Thanks! I love burgundy bush beans. I've done comparisons on different varieties of bush beans and they are my favorite thus far. My kids call them magic beans because they change color when cooked. I also love your homemade weeding tool. I even made one I can use while standing up.

    Each and every one of your videos is an absolute treat. I know it will always be something thoughtful, innovative and different. I have a feeling that those who started gardening with oodles of enthusiasm have now plateaued off of gardening themselves, when going back to work, or getting back to life as they knew it. This includes the boring task of supermarket queues, rather than not being interested in what you do and say. I know which I'd rather do :D. What is a supermarket anyway?

    • @REDGardens
      @REDGardens  2 роки тому +1

      Ah, thanks! I think you are probably right about the enthusiasm trailing off, and people getting busy. We need to get more and more people going more of their own food, but I guess we need to accept the ebb and flow of interest.

      @@REDGardens Yes we most certainly do. I hope when spring comes that people at least grow basics, such as salad crops and potatoes. Lots of things are going to be massively expensive, not just food. So I hope this pushes more people to grow. The UK is underfunded as far as allotment space goes, and I can only hope that farmers can see the benefits of letting out land for this purpose. Fertilizer for farmers has quadrupled in price at least, not to mention feed prices; plus there are crop disasters abroad such as tomatoes with droughts and other problems. I'm hoping the upward swing of prices will encourage more to grow food if they have the space.

    I love your content, keep up the great work. I know a lot of people like me who are still wanting to get started with gardening but are a little unsure where and how to start. A back to basics series this spring might be helpful. You know laying out a garden plot, starting seeds, how to transplant, watering, weeding, pruning, and so on. An everything around the garden for those of us who know nothing, or less than nothing.

    Re: Your wood framed poly box.
    I inherited some butchered up IBC totes.
    I took one top and used it as a "tunnel" for sowing. Drilled holes in the top for venting. Dug channels with a flat point shovel for snug fit to ground. Staked & bungied it down.
    Yanked it off when temperatures warmed. Plants were then not constrained.
    Took a bottom & top and used those as an ultra mega winter sowing "milk jug." Put drain holes in the bottom piece & vent holes in the top. It was crazy productive for seedling starts.

    For that Cold frame with the squash maybe a vertical net trellis would help give her sum where to go you can see how she reaches out to the edges of the frame and then tries to go up n out. With the leaves up in the air the roots and lowers would get much needed air and cooling which I think stifled that run even though the cold frame gave them such a head start! Learned so much from this video thanks 👍

    This is my first time viewing your video. As an experienced gardener, I appreciate the fine tuning in this comprehensive video. I think your garden looks fabulous and you've certainly come a long way in five years! My first-time-viewer opinion doesn't hold much weight of course, but in answer to your question I have an observation. Many people are NEW gardeners needing their hands held. They could not use the refined advice as they struggle with basics. So thats a significant portion of new viewers who may not be ready for your sage wisdom in things beyond keep plants alive. I plan to watch more because I,too like to improve and see what others learn. Thank you and I love your succinct and organized delivery!

    • @REDGardens
      @REDGardens  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you found and appreciate my channel! Your thoughts about new gardeners needing something else are spot on, I think. I see my explorations and videos as focussing in the realm of people with more experience, as there are loads of channels that focus on the beginner aspects. That will obviously limit the available pool of people who will like this type of video. But I am surprised how many beginner growers, and even people who do not have a garden yet, who watch my videos, and seem to get a lot out of them. Perhaps it is that my approach is valued by people who think certain ways, or like to understand the world around them, regardless of their experience growing vegetables.

    About bush beans - my understanding is that you don't harvest them from the bush. You pull them WITH the bush, when most of the beans have developed to your liking, still tender. You then will pick the pods and throw the rest into compost pile. And you should plant your bush beans every 2 weeks or so - that way you will have continuous supply of beans throughout the season, always fresh and not rotting. (I read it in the Robert Bowden's book). I hope it helps.

    • @REDGardens
      @REDGardens  2 роки тому
