    I reckon the bikes will be based on what gradient your trails are, and how technical/hard they are.
    If you have lots of uphill and flat trails with fun jumps and tech then get an enduro bike
    If you have lots downhill trails with big jumps and lots of tech then get a dh bike.

    • @eazilyamuzed1
      @eazilyamuzed1 5 років тому

      @@nawab256 I purchased both new and paid about $400 less for the Tues (they are both base AL models). Last November the '19 Tues with the Fox 40 suspension was available for only $200 more then the base Capra. It just depends on when you purchase and what kit you choose.
      As far as maintenance, what is it that you think costs more on a DH bike? The suspension might be a little more, but most everything else is the same or cheaper. My tires are a couple of dollars more due to the casing I get, but the difference is insignificant, really. 2 things more expensive to replace on the enduro would be the drivetrain and dropper post (the DH doesn't have the latter). So, again... it depends.
      If price is what is keeping you from considering a DH bike, you should disregard that. You CAN get them for reasonable prices and they are a helluva a lot of fun!

    I think it's obvious from EWS that very very few people NEED a dh bike. Gone are the days where if you tried taking a mid-travel bike down a DH trail the bike would explode - Enduro bikes these days are ridden just as hard and fast as full dh bikes were capable of not that long ago. So unless you're riding Rampage or racing Val di Sole, no, you don'y really NEED a dh bike.

    I feel like on blue and average black rated trails where I don't have to try to hold a tight line my enduro bike is faster, but get into the rough black and double black trails and my DH bike is not only faster but also easier to ride all day long.

    I ride my enduro bike GT Sanction 2011 on the dh trails and I feel confidence.
    Also I ride that bike in my town including uphills.
    I think that DH bike give you more abilities on the black and double black trails with high drops, big gaps, gnarly roots and rock gardens.
    I choose enduro bike because like to ride downhill and uphill using dropper post, it's between xc and dh! =)
    P.S. I wear my fullface helmet when I ride my enduro bike on the dh trails and health for me on the first place than fashion, only riding blue trails, long distantion travel, I need enduro open face helmet... ;)

    Sounds crazy, but what about putting a 46 or even 50t cassette on the dh bike and 30 or 32t chainring to help it out on the uphills? It's still going to be heavier than the enduro but at least it will pedal right?

    • @hobmarg
      @hobmarg 5 років тому

      Big cassette likely not compatible with most DH spacing/frames, and you would have to run a longer cage mech which is liable to get ripped off in rough terrain. Small chainring would also mess up the rear suspension (DH is designed around 36-38t).

    Great vid! This is the dilemma I am in right now! My trail bike is a Cotic Rocket Max 140/140 travel. Each year we go on holiday to Morzine, which is a bike park. In the past I rode a Nukeproof Pulse dh 200mm of travel. The bike was heavy and I couldn't quite get used to it, so I sold it. Now I'm at the point of do I buy a second hand dh or stick with enduro!? I don't do drops anywhere near the stuff you do, maybe 6'-10' tops.
    So my thinking was to get the new Cotic Rocket with longshot geometry and a 170mm lyrik fork. Then I have a bike I'm used to and could probably hit most features, in my range.
    Oh and this year, we're going to Whistler for the first time! Cant wait.
    What do you guys think for me? DH or 170 Rocket?

But I prefer the DH Bike on real DH Tracks because you can ride faster with it. At first I rode everything with my DH Bike from Bikeparks to Local Trails and stuff but when you ride just for fun and maybe do some Enduro Races the Enduro Bike is the right one for you as I said you probably can ride every trail with them. great video, I got a question I’d like to ask you though, I’m going to Whistler hopefully on Wednesday and I was talking to the rental shop about renting a bike from them and originally I thought the only one I could use is the Specialized Demo 8 which is a DH Bike, but the last guy I talked to said that for somebody my size (320 pounds) there’s a couple other bikes that could be good for me, they’re both Enduro Bikes, one of them is the Yeti SB150 and the other is the Pivot Firebird 29, now if you were going to rent a bike which one do you think you’d go for out of those 3 bikes? I’m leaning more towards the Pivot Firebird as it sounds better for me but I’m not sure.
