I know, a lot of hair care channels know what they’re talking about for healthy hair, but when it comes to loss it’s literally just “dht bad” because they haven’t ever dealt with hair loss. I don’t blame them - I wouldn’t look into hair loss if I wasn’t incredibly susceptible to it - but it’s risky business not telling them the whole story, because blocking dht reduction A: isn’t going to solve hair loss, and B: if fin doesn’t work, it gets people from finasteride to dutasteride without knowing that if you don’t have the t score of 1000 gorillas you might as well schedule your own breast reduction surgery a year in advance

I have also been taking dutasteride 0.5 mg daily for the last 10 months as per the doctor prescribed me. I was also prescribed minoxidil 10, but I stopped using it after 2-3 months because it was irritating my scalp due itching and dryness. I wished i had started soon to be honest. ive had zero side effects and my hair just overall feels healthier and i feel that thinning process has been reversed. earlier my hair felt unhealthy and i used to think it was the shampoo i was using. Thanks for the great work doctors.

Dutasteride is far superior than Finasteride. Finasteride lost its efficacy after 7 years, so my Doctor prescribed Dutasteride. It's been 9 months and my hair came back thicker and stronger. I'm 65, and I have BPH, so I'm killing 2 birds with one stone. Both are vastly improved because of Dutasteride.
@@raphaelfernandes5195 - Beard is fine, but come to think about it, its thinner on my chin. Dutasteride is much stronger than Finasteride, but it does prevent hair loss, and promotes hair growth because its effective fighting the trash hormone, DHT. However, I wouldn't recommend everyone to take Dutasteride, I'd suggest using Finasteride first. And I would apply Minoxidil everyday regardless of which medication you're using. The success rate is high using this combination in my opinion.
@CVK 1mg a day which is 7 mg a week. However, these doctors have 25 years of experience and suggest 3 times a week 1 mg or splitting a 5mg tablet in 4 and take three of those.
Can you talk about the effect of finasteride on neurosteroids like allopregnanolone and the use of finasteride in people with existing depression? Is it safe to use finasteride whilst being treated for depression with an SSRI or SNRI antidepressant (given the sexual dysfunction side effects of such medications)? This information would benefit a lot of people as depression is a very common illness. Do you have any patients who use finasteride who also take antidepressant medication? Do they tend to experience more side effects?
Ive been on finastride for about a month and Sertaline (anti depression drug) for about a year and I have lost the ability to ejaculate I can still get hard and sexually aroused but can't cum
Austin Sajdowitz dude you should try stopping either 1 and see which is the root of the problem. You try stopping the anti depressant drug first or switching into another one. If the problem still persist, finasteride may be the cause of the problem
Austin Sajdowitz You should speak to your doctor about this. If it is the SSRI causing the problems, they can change your medication to something like bupropion or agomelatine. Did the symptoms begin with the addition of finasteride, or did they begin when you started sertraline?
I'm taking finasteride for last 2 years, I think I'm the right person to speak about it. Finasteride does not have any side effects in my case I was having stage 1 male pattern baldness and had minor v curve in temple forehead Result after two years: it gave good results at first year , but on second year I do see some hair loss in crown area and hair thickness is very less
Have you considered taking Minoxidil?? Remember that although Finasteride can potentially regrow your hair, it is mainly used to “Block” further hair loss. Minoxidil works as a stimulant and is proven to regrow your hair, and can also slow your hair loss as well. If you do both of them then that can help you regain ground.
@@CarlosCastro-qc9ov yes I do use minoxidil 10 spray percent parallel daily Now my doctor suggested me dutasteride As Vikram Jayaprakash quoted "finasteride won't 100 percent control or prevent Male pattern baldness after few years" it declines In my case
What I think is the most important is food. If you eat garbage, no medication will help. You need nutrients to make you and your hair healthy. Why we bald is because our ancestors started eating food that isn't designed for humans like grains. Native americans ate buffalo and based on animal fat and they had amazing hair and were tall.

I was about to dump 15mg of Proscar (3x tablets) in Minoxidil until someone told me about the filler coating. The question that I would have: when adding 15mg of Finasteride, wouldn't I create some form of metastable super-saturated solution, which - under certain circumstances - might destabilize? May crushing pills and then adding all of it with fillers into Minoxidil solution cause some problems? One of my biggest concerns are the fillers. Might they interact with the Minoxidil molecules? Might they destabilize the solution? Might they form chemical complexes with Minoxidil?
My advice is do not mix finasteride with minoxidil. Everyone would be using finasteride topically if it worked that way. You've got several things to consider, including if finasteride itself is even soluble in the minoxidil-based solution, and even if it is, if has any topical effect whatsoever. If you should experience results, I'd wager it's from the finasteride being absorbed into your system, that I gather you're not in favor of taking. I suggest you try Nizoral 2% shampoo three times a week alongside your minoxidil. Look it up, there's evidence to show it helps.
Hey, you might want to check out that etude ijpc.com/Abstracts/Abstract.cfm?ABS=4749 apparently there is no bad interaction between the molecules in a topical usage : _The results from this study suggest that the new hair-loss topical solution may be considered a safe and effective treatment option in male AGA patients._

When I go back to fin, it thickens in the front and regrows hair in my temple region. If you don't get results on Dut 6 months to 1 year I'd be skeptical. Maybe our genetics just aren't meant for it? I'm 34 and have been on a finasteride / minoxidil combo since I was about 19 or so. Tons of baldness on both sides of my family, and I'm fairly confident that it's been my usage of these products that have helped me preemptively retain my full head of hair. That being said, I have noticed gradual decaying of certain gains (whereas in previous years this had not been the case). I'll probably always be the harshest judge of my own appearance, but objectively I do take comfort knowing that I'm doing all I can. I have generally spoken directly to my primary care provider about finasteride, although I've also spoken to a dermatologist in the past. Any recommendations on the type of physician that would know most about the effects of dutasteride?
@@Abhi-xy9ew Just 1 mg daily. Bear in mind I began using both finasteride & minoxidil when my head of hair was probably 95% in tact (due, in part, to my own proactive anxiety and vanity). Let me also clarify that in the past couple of years, I have started to see somewhat gradually diminishing effectiveness -- the hair at the corners of my hairline has begun to noticeably recede, and I tend to see more shedding than I'd like. I always want to use products that are marked and regulated as safe, so in addition to specialty shampoo, I am researching things like dutasteride & nanoxidil.
@@eliasb22 It's probably you getting older so don't panic too much, if it has been working out good for you all these years then continue. Have you thought of starting dutasteride? It has been officially used for mpb in South Korea and Japan and off label worldwide.
@@redlightning9130 Thanks for the reply -- much appreciated. That is a good point. While I am satisfied with how these products have helped me, I am certain that aging plays a part for sure. As for dutasteride, I have watched some of this channel's videos on it, and am open to it considering its usage in other countries. Not sure how my physician will feel about it, but worth looking into for sure! Thanks :)
Oh, also -- I made a big switch. After years of "minoxidil foam in the front and back," I increasingly felt curious about nanoxidil's claims about it being beneficial for both front & back scalp usage (whereas minoxidil is apparently only good on the back, despite my using it in all areas). So, I took the plunge and ordered some nanoxidil. For the past month, I have been taking a blended approach of "nanoxidil in the front; minoxidil in the back." Other than the routine taking a few minutes longer, I've been satisfied thus far. No side effects (aside from some scalp initial "tingling" which dissipates after a minute or two). TBH I was not crazy about the "studies" that have purportedly been done for nanoxidil -- the "journal articles" seem to be a bit more like glorified MS Word documents, and there don't appear to be that many, at least not available to me. That being said, the product is well reviewed and discussed enough that I decided to give it a try. I think I've generally noticed less shedding, but will continue to evaluate it over the next two months as well. Right now, I am leaning towards continuing it, and will remain patient, open, and optimistic :)
Anyone else wondering Finasteride vs Minoxodil? With all of Minoxodil's steps and daily effort, it seems if you are at an early stage of NW 1- 3 that Fin would just be easier and that the side effects of Fin are often overcome with continued treatment or decreased dosages.
Fantastic information and a real full view of what to expect and with some different treatments. I'd really appreciate a video on the whole approach to using medication with transplant and the long lasting effects.
Hola amigo Una pregunta.
I started to notice my hairline becoming thinner around age 16. I am currently 21 and with a Norwood 3 level of balding. I have been on finasteride for over a year, starting with 3 pills a week but eventually moved onto 7 pills a week. My speed and aggressiveness of my hair loss has reduced but I’m still experiencing a significant amount of hair loss. Should I start duasteride?
My friend, Avodart works better for hair loss, but you can't just ask these men, you've got to ask your doctor. If they reply to you, they can get in trouble if you have a bad reaction.
I can tell you that I used dutasteride for 8 years...The side effect I experience has been that my sperm motility was reduced a lot...so I suspended to take it for a couple of years and the condition now is acceptable but not still great...
Well thanks for asking Yayat. Well that’s not a straightforward answer as all patients are different in terms of aggressiveness of hair loss. Most patients will be fine with only Finasteride. For those few patients (the 14%) with more aggressive hair loss non responsive to Finasteride we would consider Dutasteride. Now I prefer to titrate the dose. Now this means I would prefer to start low and progress the dose from there depending on the hair loss response we can achieve. It may be the case that only 1 capsule per week is all that’s required to bring back control of the hair loss. If it is not we can add a further dose per week and reassess accordingly. I hope I have been able to answer your question and wish you all the best. Dr Wilkie.
Just looked up side effects for dutasteride (avodart). They’re significant. If you’re younger, it could ruin your libido. Older men must be concerned with potential heart issues such as palpitations and prostrate cancer. Nothing comes without side effects. Lowest dosages should be agreed upon initially. But the fact remains that dutasteride blocks both forms of 5-alpha reductase. You have to take something post surgery to prevent further loss. If it doesn’t have sides, I’d take it.
Been on Finasteride for two years: the first one I experienced stability and also regrowth, but then I lost all the benefits. Should I take Dutasteride once a week?
Antonio You probably just got used to your hair as your new baseline, it cannot get better forever eventually you reach a peak. Then you slowly bald as it does not fully stop hair loss forever.

Is it possible that post-finasteride syndrome is confused with the long time the drug remains on the skin? It is said that a simple dose of 1mg can remain on the skin for at least 30 days, so daily intake would lead to an over-accumulation in the body. In addition, it takes 3-6 months for the body to rid itself of the drug.
What’s your thoughts about dutasteride and finasteride and the PSA blood test for prostate cancer? I have read that both drugs can make the PSA test slightly more accurate. I have also read that there is a slight possibility for an increased risk in a more aggressive cancer in the prostate. At 2:00 did the dude on the right just correct the guy on the left, saying people with hairloss have more DHT? Pretty poor if that's what guy on the left was saying
Yea that’s true, it really depends on your sensitivity to dht on your follicles. Dht causes beard however there are people with beards who aren’t balding but they are also people who can’t grow beard but is still balding. It’s not about the amount of dht
Dutasteride only blocks about 93% DHT and stays in your system for a long time when it reaches a steady state in your blood by taking .5mg per day for three of four weeks.A single dose of .5mg has a half life of about 2 or 3 days. One .5mg Dutasteride per week will block about as much DHT as 1mg of finasteride every day.
How about topical dutasteride? It is has also the upperhand of disproportionally increased DHT (scalp vs bloodstream). Could you weigh in on the topic? Thank you
why do physicians recommened to take cold showers as opposed to hot showers, which they mention that it makes hair thinner? isnt heat energyzing the hair follicle?
I started dutasteride once a week to test the waters after being on fin for a number of years and losing some ground. Kind of scary sounding drug which is why I'm only doing once a week to start.
Propecia has 1mg of finasteride, and Proscar has 5mg of it. Does that mean that a 5mg dose will be more effective in treating hair loss than 1mg? Or if someone takes Propecia and it doesn't work, should they start using Avodart instead of Proscar?
I continued to lose ground on finasteride at a slow pace and it eventually picked up. My doctor switched me from finasteride 1mg daily to dutasteride 1/2 mg once a week. Dutasteride is far superior than Finasteride. Finasteride lost its efficacy after 7 years, so my Doctor prescribed Dutasteride. It's been 9 months and my hair came back thicker and stronger.

Would love to hear an answer for that, too.
Or try lowering the does of finasteride to maybe a few times a week

What I think is the most important is food. If you eat garbage, no medication will help. You need nutrients to make you and your hair healthy. Why we bald is because our ancestors started eating food that isn't designed for humans like grains. Native americans ate buffalo and based on animal fat and they had amazing hair and were tall.

@@redlightning9130 UPDATE SIR
Hey, you might want to check out that etude ijpc.com/Abstracts/Abstract.cfm?ABS=4749 apparently there is no bad interaction between the molecules in a topical usage :

Bro may i know your finasteride daily doseage please
For the past month, I have been taking a blended approach of "nanoxidil in the front; minoxidil in the back."
Other than the routine taking a few minutes longer, I've been satisfied thus far.

What dosage for dut when you combine?
How much dosage you guys recommended for dutasteride?
@tomberver1075Safe for the most part but no there is definitely still risk of side effects. I've taken both fin and dut and had side effects on dut

Most hair restoration docs prescribe Finasteride without knowing which 5-Alpha-Reductase enzyme the patient has and seems ridiculous. That’s somewhat analogous to prescribing the wrong drug for X disease, because they didn’t run the appropriate tests.
Hey doctor. I've heard that Dutasteride has a half life of 5 weeks. What if someone can take it once a month and can save their hair as a stand alone treatment?
@@tagada7 what is better
Fin every day at 1.25 mg
Or fin every day at 1.25 and one Dut per week ??
Will be there any difference or should someone stay at 7x fin per week ?
@@tagada7 What about the free T in the scalp that raises from Dutasteride
In studies it has been shown that it raises as much as double the Testosterone in the scalp than Finasteride ? I know that T is nowhere near as harmful to the hair follicle like DHT but it can still cause some hair loss. In my country ( Greece ) we do not have a topical anti androgen like Ru or Cb and we cannot find any of them. The only one is the ketoconazole shampoo which by the way is awesome.
Ive been on finasteride for almost 3 years now and i seem to have maintained a stable hairline as far as i can tell. I recently started using topical minoxidil a few months ago to try to reclaim some of my temple area. Now im kind of scared that i might be accidentally hiding mpb progression with minoxidil and wont know when to start dutasteride. Thoughts?
Great videos! May you please talk about the drugs effects on muscle growth, beard and body hair development or growth please? I have been taking dutasteride daily for over a year and it works but like you said I should have started small as my hair loss wasn't drastic. I am concerned that it has halted my progression of facial hair and my performance physically.
Does it have any side effects?
@@variamente6855 REDUCED libido
im on finas for a year, and on dutas for 4 month. dutas gave me high stability, still i am noticing receding hairline on the front sides very slowly.
Aditya Saha it’s only been 4 months full results will show in 6-12 and significant reduction is awesome just stick with it
@f rad im taking both
@@aditya_saha please exercise care, these drugs can abuse your hormones and cause brain fog
@@remonales7731 Dude just said he's been on finasteride for 12 months so he should already notice the full results. 4 months of dutasteride on top of the 12 months of finasteride might not make that much of a difference
Sushil Kumar you are correct, I got bad brain fog on dut, also I got panic attacks on fin so stopped that aswell
This guys are so legit. I’ve watched almost every video they’ve come out with and the content is so good and direct.
I rewatched this video today and it answered a question I’ve had for the past few months i.e., does more testosterone equal great hair loss...which from this video it doesn’t because it’s not the testosterone that shrinks hairs, it’s the higher levels of the 5AR enzyme converting that testosterone.
My question now is, does increased levels of testosterone also increase the amount of the 5AR enzyme?
So glad I watched this either way. Thanks!
that's a good question. Looking forward to hearing the answer
No, the amount of enzyme is genetically determined
Hi sir. I m 30 years old and i am using finasteride alone for more than 1.5 years. My hair fall has slowed down a little, but not completely. Have some bald area visible out slowly, but no hair growth. Can i combine finasteride daily with dutasteride once a week? Plz suggest me something.
I started that thing my hair shedding starts again? Did you try that?
I wish you guys were in USA. I've been on Finastride for 5 years and I feel like it's no longer working like it used to.

Hello, I really appreciate this video! I am 19 years old, taking finesteride for 3 month now and the hair loss is still aktive. What‘s your opinion on that and would you recommend to add dutesteride 1-3 times a week? Happy to hear from you
Heinz Keiter it’s okay dear, this is the shedding phase! It’s replacing the unhealthy hairs
Dude that drug alters your hormone levels. I would suggest not using it while being so young.
Is your hair still receding?
How you doing
Is stop hairloss ?
I’m only 27 and I’m starting to thin bad at the crown. I really don’t want to go down that road, that just can’t happen. I gotta find something fast. I’m on finasteride but I’m looking into dutasteride now tho.
How's the progress?
Hello Doctor, I have been using Finasteride for almost 2 years now. I had very little benefit and my hair has been falling rapidly. I have also restarted using Minoxidil. Now I've started using Dutasteride daily. Is this a good way to move forward?
Dutastreide having side effects of sexual problems know ???
How about your hair naw ?
Can we get an update on your hair loss journey, I'm currently on the same boat you were
for someone who is in their twenties or mid twenties with diffuse hair loss at the crow and thinning at the top and near the temples what would you most likely pick
I've read Dutasteride raises scalp testosterone twice as much as Finasteride, to something like 90 percent. Does really high scalp testosterone cause issues with hair loss? Or is it really all about DHT suppression? Wondering why I've read Dutasteride users often have a heavy shedding phase.
Dht
@@strangeclouds7 DHT yes, but Testosterone on it's own is quite the Androgen. Not the binding affinity to the follicle the DHT has but still wonder if it has some effect on the follicle.
@@napnap609 Testosterone levels at the scalp makes no difference. Its all the role of dht causing hairloss

All those videos are very informative and it is great that someone can easily take all the info from one source, i dn know whose idea is this, but ur podcasts rock)) I am just curios, stopping one and starting another brand - does it harm the results? let's say - stopping Propecia and starting fin.?
The drug is the same. Certainly after it came off patent. It shouldn't be a problem. Thank you for your kind words. Glad you are enjoying the content. Just finished filming a few more episodes. Will be uploading those soon.
Great video guys, very nice explanation.
I wonder what would happen if a person stops or reduces their normal intake or dosage of these medicines ??
