Gibson is bad news for Gibson.
Both were very good. I guessed wrong. And I ended up preferring the sound of the Eart pickups by just a little bit.
I guessed it wrong too.
The difference was fairly obvious. The trademark snarl and clarity of the bridge pups under high gain is a dead giveaway. The neck pickups were closer, but the Gibson had that warm, creamy tone that set it apart. I've got guitars with Burstbucker1-2, and Burstbucker2-3 configuration, so it was easier to know what to look for. But $ for $, the Eart would be a killee guitar for under a grand with just a change of the pickups to some Seymour Duncans or Burstbuckers.
The difference is within a components tolerance margin I would say, so they are identical basically.
The tones are so close that it doesn’t really matter. Different amp (and settings), a tweak of the tone knob, different picks, different attack, different fingers, etc. would make the real difference. Basically it just comes down to what you REALLY want out of your guitar purchase. There are plenty of people who would opt for the Gibson at 10x the price even if it sounded like crap compared to the EART, just like there are people who would NEVER buy a Gibson no matter what.
I got it, 100% wrong, but was also thrown off by the comment about one guitar being potentially muddier than the other, but, a very nice surprise either way! I’m supposing that what I thought was the maple top, was perhaps the Alnico 2 vs the Alnico 5 pickups. The Gibson had tighter grain and a smoother over driven sound. All this said, the eart is a remarkable value, especially considering the finishing of the frets. Thanks, this demo was concise, and it was a lot of fun!
Good comparison. I've always heard "only other guitarists care what guitar you're playing" so play what you like and can afford. My first electric was a Hondo II back in the 80s, so there you are.
Just as i thought... They both sound just like guitars. Buy one, plug it in and play it. Turn knobs until it sounds best to your ears. Enjoy!
Good point!
I don't know which guitar is which, but I do like the sound of "X" better on all pickups. If that is the Eart, so be it. I don't have the money for a Gibson anyway, although I'm sure they make a fine product.
🎸👍
Well I guessed right but the difference was very slight ( I only really noticed in the distorted / driven sounds) did make me wonder what would be the result if you changed the pick ups over between the instruments ??? Would the Eart really sound different then ??? Would be interesting! Whatever,
the quality of lower priced guitars is really amazing today !
Great comparison. Differences can be heard, but not as much of a difference as you might expect. Affordable guitars have gotten much better! Plus you got in a good workout in the process.
I actually got it right? There was a difference, but not so much as to pay 8 times as much.
I definetly got it wrong. I would have swore that X was the Gibson
One day you should do the x-y blind comparison cheap vs expensive but playing the same cheap guitar on both clips. Only changing the treble or bass just a little... And have fun with the comments..
I would love for you to compare the Harley Benton SC-550 Plus to your Gibson LP.
I was definitely able to tell which was which, but if you only have enough money for the Eart, then honestly, you're most of the way there sound-wise. I could never afford a Les Paul Standard, but my Les Paul Studio is amazing and does everything I need..
The pickups on the EART are very close in resistance and inductance to the Gibson Classic 59 pickup - according to measurements taken by Philip McKnight. So they should sound close.
👍🎸
ya it's Y Eart is a good mod platform i have several on the way tele, les paul, strat style on the way.if your good with mods of guitars you made these guitar play above their weight class for a few $$
They both sound "like a Gibson" in that they both sound "dark" to me.
Pickups are easy to change. What I care more about is fit, finish, and playability.
I'm surprised I didn't see more top comments pointing this out. You can get some great pickups (or even just the same ones as in the Standard). The demo shows well that the budget guitar sounds very good for the price. But you could do some easy mods and a great setup and still have it cost a fraction of the Gibson. Like you said, I think the construction and quality are more relevant than the sound when comparing guitars across such different price ranges. What can you get for that $389? If it's pretty solid construction, you can mod from there however you want.
@@tdu5777 I've got an Eart Tele and it's great. The fret job is the best I've ever seen (this includes American Fenders); polished, rounded, stainless steel frets.
I've been getting rid of my Squiers because they're no comparison and I'm starting not to care about "brand name" guitars anymore.
I thought it was close on the cleans. Dirt the Y sounded just a little better, so I guessed right. You could probably make little adjustments to the pedals or EQ and they’d be indistinguishable.
What was that rhythmic crunch/fart noise between 0:40 and 0:44?
it was crunch fart noises
Thanks!
Wow both guitars are insanely close sounding
I got it right. I own a 60’s standard. Is it worth the cash. Nope. Only if it makes you feel good playing it. What ever guitar that makes you want to play is the right one.
I got it right, just the wrong way around. I prefer to call it alternatively right. Often I can pick guitars on clean tones but these were both quite dark on the neck pickup, not unusual for humbuckers. I thought Guitar X was a little less dark which led me to think, incorrectly, that it may be the Gibson. Once it gets into heavier distortion they really sound much the same to me. Thanks.
I found it the opposite could not really tell a difference in clean it was dirty that gave away what was what
Prefer the Eart clean tone but the Gibson has a better dirty tone
whats important to me is it wasnt night and and it should be. I have 3 eart headless guitars and for the price very happy with them . Not much more than a kit guitar great as is for a lot for others mod it
Seems to me the gibson has less output and slightly darker. Which is the explanation. The eart probably has higher output pickups. If that Paul is a standard 50s then they have weaker output pickups to the 60s. That and the eart is thinner more in comparison to an sg or an ltd ec that isn’t full thickness. And the finish is a satin/matte which most likely means it’s probably a very thin finish because a high gloss requires a thicker finish more often than not. However, I notice the gibson is a little more bitey with gain. Which makes sense. If a pickup is far too hot, the tone makes no difference in high gain because the pickup is so hot it doesn’t have the amount of clarity that a lower output pickup does. Think emg 81 vs a classic 57. Not picking on emg. I love them. Just saying an emg is more suited to a sharp tight chug vs a 57 is more suited to an overdrive than a dimebag rig. Am I can’t exactly tell but it seems like the eart pickups are slightly closer together that the les Paul. Which is the same as an sg. Again explaining why the neck is slight brighter. The gibson is smoother and more balanced. The eart does not have a bad sound. Just different sound. However I prefer my neck pickup to be very rounded and jazzy smooth. I hear that in the gibson more. The eart sounds like an emg bridge with the tone slightly backed up just enough to get rid of the bitey clean ice pick. Alls good here. Just different guitars.
I got them right and it was more than subtle difference wise but I primarily I play my les Paul everyday so it was easy for me
I did get it right... But it was literally just a guess.. IDK if I could really tell but again it was just a guess.
i liked the x guitar riff and sound
high gain/dirt
more
If you get an Eart , you can always change the pups and still save a shit ton of money, but if I bought an eart (which I'm very much considering so) I wouldn't bother changing them, even though I *think I heard a difference got them right
Straight up wasn’t sure until the last clip. Got it right though!
Gibb...Y. It was in the subliminalitynessness.
Not so much Ear... waX.
I preferred X for clean tones and Y for dirty.
Hazarding a guess: x = gibson y = EART
🤣 i need new ears
I agree and thought this too. You're not alone 🤣
For clean the EART walked away with it. Big difference.
For the mild gain, I thought they were close but again I thought the EART was better.
High Gain, very similar but again I picked the EART the mids came through better.
I guessed Y for gibson but to be honest they both sounded great
The guitar i play the most these days is the least expensive electric.
And if you adjust for inflation and/or current prices the difference is even bigger.
But it’s still cool to have options, not just for sound, but i play each guitar at least little differently
So for certain things one works better, and for other things another one will.
But yeah, fun is the goal
they have different wood, different pickup, eart has stainless steel fret, and lighter body, very suitable for home studio
The differences are academic. Nothing a listener would notice or care about at a gig. I felt that the EART was brighter in the first comparison. Gibson was brighter in the second. They were practically indistinguishable in the 3rd.
I got them right. They are very close.
There's a slight difference, but as to which sounds better.,.....
I guessed it right. The takeaway I got from it was they are two different instruments and both did some things better than the other. Very interesting video. Thank you for posting. I expected more lower mids with a brighter attack on the Eart because of the lack of a maple top and the stainless frets, respectively. I did not take into account the way the bridge burstbucker would take gain on the gibson. That was awesome. Two very good sounding guitars that could both find a place in a professional studio.
Play them at the same time, same licks, same frets, and play the audio at the same time.
My first thought was'nt that, it was -why has he got his face on the back of his neck on the thumb nail? Both good.
Within 3 seconds of hearing the Gibson knew it was guitar Y
Thought it would be closer really
Thanks for the video👏👏
Hey Landon 🤟🤠🤟🎸Got it right y was Gibson 🎸🎸🎼🎶Tone sounded clearer to me Awesome comparison 🎸🎸Rock Hard my friend 🤟🤠🤟🎸
Love X. Surprised. :D
Guitar X=EART and Guitar Y=Les Paul. The Gibson just sounded better, especially with gain. If I’m wrong then Wow!
I guessed.
I guessed right but it was subtle. Just play what works for you folks. Excellent job on that vid.
Got it right, however nowhere near 8x better. Not even 2x better
👍🎸
I got it right, but probably just by luck. Both sound good to me. BUuuuut, and this is a huge but, while I play and listen to guitar with my ears, I buy guitars with my eyes too... for me, the EART just doesn't even register on my radar looks wise.
They both sounded good, different, but good. The Gibson was easy to pick out but I get to play both Gibson and EART humbuckers so I might have an advantage there.
X all the way slightly darker sounds better to me personally.
Have to agree with previous comment about gibson being bad for gibson, pricings awfull, qualities hit n miss and at this point more a lifestyle brand than guitar company. It's a shame to see them not move with the times.
I got it but there is not that much better sound compared to price! A pair of pickups and you are good!!
X sounded better clean - good clarity. Y sounded better driven - better bass and overall control. I guessed wrong, preferring only slightly the cheaper guitar! The Eart is very good value for money then but will never have the cred of the Gibson.
Personally, I'm not a name on the headstock snob and even if I could afford a USA Gibson I would still look at other cheaper brands for aesthetic difference and save lots of cash.
I think the eart was Y
I could clearly tell which was the Gibson LP.
👍🎸
No, this LP knock off isn’t bad news for Gibson. There are thousands of LP style guitars and Gibson is still doing fine.
Not only that, but its an ESP/LTD knock off 😂
@@trevor4533eriously lol clickbait headline and I love Landon.
Yep, because people keep paying stupid money for them, for no real reason other than the name. And yep, I have quite a few Gibsons.
I guessed correct, but both have good usable sounds. The amp is probably more important in shaping your sound apart from your fingers.
the amp and speaker is huge!
Gibson has a PLASTIC output jack plate, EART has steel. Comparison over.
Honestly, preferred 'x' across all sound tests. To my ears, 'x' is not too muddy', but 'y' is too bright.
Yay Eart sent you some new free guitars....good reviews all around for the free stuff
😱
Yes, the Gibby sounds better but dang....for the price!!!!!
My Guess is The X is the Eart and Y the Gibson Only because I believe the Eart has hotter pickups.
Send me my internet points! and No the Gibson did not sound 8 x better and i doubt it plays 8X better either.
I was wrong.
I tell you I am watching this video
Over my cell phone I couldn't tell the difference between the two ,but also have an old cell. All though they are beautiful guitars. By the way that offer still stands you run out room on storage for all that gear you keep getting I will use I mean store it for you LOL.
I prefer the 2nd one. It sounded much more like slash. Clear and vibrant
I easily got the gibson with the pickups split cleaner brighter tone...and the dirt the epiphone bridge sounded muddy darker, but price wise.....epiphone worth every buck.
Fun compare of Eart vs Gibby. I am happy I was right this time, Gibson pups just have that recognizable girth. Glad to be a modest Patreon member for all your awesome content.
The entire market place is bad news for Gibson these days. So many great options for a fraction of the price...
What about the $ 150 Guitar 🎸
Eart AL112B is my most cheapest guitar in my collection. Thanks to Max Guitar for introduce this brand. Too bad in Malaysia is hard to find this brand. But it's a great cheap guitar. Was planning to make this guitar as a project with son but found out that the guitar is amazing & cancel. So we found other resale guitar for the project.
I check out Wildwood Music’s new arrivals daily. They get 10 Custom shop $10,000 Les Pauls In and they’re gone in a week. Gibson has nothing to worry about from Chinese guitars.
what if it's China buying those guitars?!! 😱
@@landonbailey That’s a biggg customer base!!
As PT Barnum used to say. " There is a sucker born every minute."
Not even close. The Les Paul Standard sounds great. The EART sounds ... like a budget guitar.
Very close…..which means bad news for Gibson….wait…didn’t someone say that already
Pretty similar, I liked the tone ox X better on most but Y was more articulate on some things, my tastes change, x would be my choice over all, but at thst kind of price difference the cheaper one all day long.
Guessing Y is the Gibson but I am horrible at these types of things - I almost always pick Epiphone humbuckers over Gibson in blind sound comparisons. Maybe I’m just a cheap (guitar) date! Oh, not today - I actually got one right for once!
So you did an A-B of guitars X and Y…Landon, you make my brain hurt🤪
my brain doesn't hurt because I've never used it!
Funny, they both sound yeck to me…
Too much bass and midrange = GIBSON of any kind! Unless it has P-90s in it. Otherwise you're paying for a lot of mud.
I bought the Eart headless and i love it. Literally jam on the couch with that guitar daily. It's a bargin. I might even add some fishman fluence moderns because i think the neck and body shape and build quality is worth it.
is this news bad Gibson for guitar?
is this comment bad for good?
@@landonbailey Me bad want money now. Me sick. You comment read good.
I like that Eart is doing that satiny finish on a lot of their guitars. They sound similar. But if one feels better than the other and it doesn't cost 3 grand or something like that, I forgot what I was thinking...never mind the bullocks...
Great video but not particularly close.
Do you show hockey highlights on your patron??😬
They say you’re trying out for the Canadian Pro Bodybuilding Contest this year after holding up those Les Pauls. I did not hear much of a difference. Sucks to be Gibson I guess.
Can't lie. They were very close. You can tell just a tad on the differences. I wouldn't shake a stick at either. Lol
Yeah they both sounded excellent
I got it right but have to say the Eart was not bad sounding at all. The LP Standard had a better definition and balance between notes. I just recently had the good fortune to purchase with time payments a Les Paul Standard 60s guitar in Bourbon Burst. To say I love that guitar would be a gross understatement. It is a tone machine and plays like no other guitar I own or have tried. Despite all the concerns about Gibson’s quality, the guitar was absolutely flawless.
Both muddy on clean. X slightly more, so thats probably EArt.
Had no preference dirty, close enough that I didnt care either way.
So if I play only dirty, I'd get the EArt.
If I play clean, I'd get the EArt and some new pickups, and still be 2k better off. 🤷
X is Eart and Y is Gibson as Y is cleaner and more harmonic sounding and sounded better however Both guitars sound good! Thanks for the video!
On the cleaner tones, the Eart sounded better to my ear. The Gibson sounded better on the dirtier tones.
Easily guitar Y is Gibson. Looking at the comments, most people should have guitar X and save the money. I like to think I have a good ear for such things but I still have a cheap guitar for my cheap fingers.
I have no horse in this race, not feeling the need for an LP style. Preferring y on cleans. And mild gain. And dirt.
Yeah, the Gibson.
Guessed right. The Gibson punches out more mids with gain and lets you know it's there. Like a stick to the ribs.
I guessed right only cos I also have that same gibson, I'm a novice guitarist, if I didn't have the gibson I wouldn't have been able to distinguish between then 🎸🎸
Almost positive that A was x and B was y.
so close!
hearing Landon say "Gibson Les Paul Standard" is music to my ears and also a gut punch because I know it's gonna take a long long time before I can ever hold one 😭
I'm gonna guess guitar x is EART and guitar y is gibson
