When I think back to my first ever piggies 30+ years ago, I know I loved them fiercely and did the best I could at the time. But my goodness, the difference in quality of life for my piggies now! There was no googling “how to take care of my guinea pig” back then and I had to check out books from the library instead (that weren’t exactly numerous or accurate). I guess I didn’t do that bad since my first ever piggie lived 9.5 years, but I’m pretty sure that was 90% good genetics. Thank you Scotty for being a fantastic piggie knowledge source!
Great video! When I got my Harriet, I was dizzy and overwhelmed. I wanted to do right by her and care for her and who do I find?? Scotty! I went through your videos, communicated and then I found Saskia, but you were the first. Great Care Guide video, Scotty! Every potential guinea pig owner should have to watch this before they get guinea pigs. There is sooooooo much people need to know about having g-pigs.
I live in a town with poor quality veterinary services for exotics. And the cost for just walking in the door is over $100. There is no good quality hay available in my area either. I have had to order it online and found lots of really bad hay out there. I did find a brand called Standlee that is in Idaho!! Their Orchard Grass hay is very good. (Their Timothy is not...mostly sticks in that kind)
~I guess my advice to anyone thinking about getting a guinea pig for a pet...in a nutshell: these little guys are fragile, prone to getting sick (due to inbreeding), and very expensive. Be very aware of what your town has available for your guinea pig(s) BEFORE you bring one or more home~

Anywho I wanted to purchase a hoodie and noticed you have Guinea pig mama but do you have one that says Guinea pig daddy?
im getting two piggies around late may or mid june, does anyone have any tips (im 13) and we are getting them a 144x75x46,5 cm ''cage'' its cgc plates but non wire is that big enough for two? how many hides should they have each should there be hay loos or in hayracks should there be water bottles or bowls and are they simillar to hamsters (ive done some researh) but not alot so im trying my best!

Yes absolutely! All guinea pigs should have a companion even if they are just side by side. Please go through the bonding section and also look for a rescue near you which will give you the best opportunity for a playdate and bonding

I dont know what i do wrong! I've
lost 4 piggies in 5 years😭. My first died in 2018 from a heart attack(1year), my second piggie died in 2022 from extreme bumblefoot(4years), my 3rd is now 4.5 years old, my 4th had diarhhea with blood and died in 2021(3months old), my 5th is 2 years and his brother died 1 month ago because he stopped eating after surgery on a returning abcess(we syringe fed him but the vet said he got GI stasis from surgery and that syringe feeding could'nt help him..).😭😭😭
