    GW is like WotC in that their naming conventions are so good.
    I've been taking my kids though some RPG systems and I've always kind of been drawn to the Warhammer lore. This looks cool.
    Thanks, Joel!!

    The attributes and skills remind me of Gygax's Dangerous Journeys system, which had 3 attributes (Physical, Mental, Spiritual) and all skills matched one of these. Without a skill, iirc, you roll using only the attribute. There was also something like Mettle, called Joss, which had some very broad potential applications. That system had a lot of great ideas, including simulating odd-numbered dice with standard dice. But it was complex, and character creation took a ridiculously long time compared to D&D. It's still imo worth reading and borrowing from. Soulbound looks much more accessible. Also, if you think about it, you're *always* drinking your money!

    nice review! This game is so dope. I have a party composed by a khainite witch aelf who want revenge against her kind, a Questor Stormcast, who barely remeber who he is, a aetherkhemist kharadron trying to rebuild his ship and a doomseeker fyreslayer in search for a worthy death. The players love the setting and the story. I always prefered Warhammer Fantasy, but once deep into AoS lore, I have to say is great.
    A little help for DM with a Stormcast in the party: yes, it is so OP, have better armor and better stats. The thing that balance that is the use of endeavours, so the Stormcast are more powerfull than the other PC but they have less thing they can do between adventures.

    Thank you for this video, Because of its heroic tone and the complex AOS lore/names/miniatures game heritage, soulbound has defenitly been underrated, it is too bad because the game has great mechanics, it is fast paced, easy to master and offers interesting tactical choices to the players.

    It is sad that in my country the translation and publication of Soulbound still delayed and postponed all the time - although WFRP 4ed is actively being sold and even the Wrath & Glory corebook has already gone on sale.
    I will definitely buy a starter set of Soulbound in my native language to support this Good Deed.

    Those Warscrolls look almost exactly like the monster stat blocks in D&D 4th edition, even down to the roles. I always really liked that feature.

    I've been meaning to get this game but haven't pulled the trigger on it. I had just thought that it was a variant of Warhammer Fantasy, which I didn't like.
    This sounds very different and heroic. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

      The themes and 'tone' are *very* different compared to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Almost entirely different ends of the spectrum, I'd say,

    I totally agree on the point of the use of D6. It makes everything really familiar for the AoS player. Did you use minis and a map/grid to play the combats. I really don't know whether use one or just go with theater of the mind.

    Thanks for your review -enjoyed listening to you. How does its combat system compare with Warcry? I am thinking of giving it a go for solo play.

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  2 роки тому

      The combat system is probably more like AoS than Warcry, but really that's a stretch. I think it could be fun solo.

      @@DriveThruReview Is the combat more fun than Warcry's?

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  2 роки тому +1

      @@zzgrom It kind of depends really. If you want a thematic narrative style experience, Soulbound wins. If you want a light puzzly competitive style combat, Warcry wins.

      @@DriveThruReview Thanks for your time to answer. I am looking for solo puzzly rules but sleeker than Warcry's. The movement zone ruleset of Soulbound looks elegant to me coming from a tradition of measuring movement in inches. Like you, I don't like D20 rules. Too boring - I am too much of a passenger - I need some decision making. Warcry is ok but many of the abilities act the same way amongst the different factions and are bland.

    Do you suggest that it’s played with gamers that are familiar with the tabletop/board game aspect?

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  3 роки тому +1

      I do... only because the lore is very... specific. Or, at the very least, the expectations are set to what the game is and what it's all about. Every group will vary, and you can probably have a setting that is particularly amenable to the group so it may not matter so much then.

    Your channel is very interesting. I am new to Warhammer and Warhammer 40k RPG. My goal in some point is to be able to them together. I liked the theory on how Sigmar was some son of the Emperor. This is not proved or anything official. We will see. I am not pushing anything that the players were not interested to get into.

    Isn't Soulbound based on the same mechanics as the WH40k Wrath & Glory system?
    Just got the most recent edition of the Wrath & Glory book in. I like the system and, thankfully, it's much easier on the eyes to read than the earlier published book. Had been eyeing Soulbound for awhile but the setting just sends me back to "meh" when I think about it. Good to know Soulbound has an option for grittier play rather than just the default superhero level.

    • @cwalz50
      @cwalz50 3 роки тому +2

      Hey there! Soulbound is not based on the Wrath & Glory system. It is also a d6 dice pool system, but the similarity ends there.

    • @DriveThruReview
      @DriveThruReview  3 роки тому +1

      I think there are some fairly loose(?) similarities in areas. I've only glanced through the rules to Wrath & Glory. I'm not sure if there was any collaboration between the teams there, but there's a lot of difference mechanically for sure. I'm actually real curious to try that one, once they get it back up and running with some modules and a new starter kit etc...

      @@DriveThruReview Hey Joel! I work with Cubicle 7. We are a pretty small team and work really closely together, but we believe that settings as unique as the Warhammer worlds deserve their own unique game systems to really show off those settings through mechanics.
