👍 👍 CHEERS, I used to bring a heavy Ass tool box.. 🚹 THAT darn box was so flipping heavy.. How I've gained wisdom from the years. I now carry minimum with me, got the extras in car if needed 👍. Thanks for sharing Your knowledge 👍 👍
When I go I take an assortment of tools, but I always go in a pickup and most times go with at least one other person. Never know what I might come across and need help with. Great video Justin.
I love the video but lowkey I love going to the junk yard. Me and my girl often pick a day we have off every blue moon and go out and see if we can find anything lol we take everything. I remember a specific time I needed a steering knuckle for my dakota cuz my the stupid guide bolts stripped out. I took one apart and after I did I realized It was the wrong size. I went and found another one and took it apart. As im walking around lookin. A guy walks by all happy and I asked him what he was looking for. He said a steering knuckle for a dakota and how he found one already removed and in great condition... i looked at it and it was the one I took apart😂
A bucket boss 5 gallon bucket organizer and my highlift jack have been awesome. Most of the junkyards around here arent nice paved yards. Literally everything here is sunk in the mud unless i want to drive an hour to an lkq
Rustbelt guy here in Elk Co. Pa. I have a little 3 drawer Craftsman box with pretty much everything I need to yank about any part. Ammo can with WD, brake clean, fluid film. And of course a turbo torch. Separate hand tool box with impacts and Big Blue, my Kobalt impact. Jeeps need lots of parts on the regular, well, because they are Jeeps lol
This always seems to be a balance between what you need and what you're willing to carry. Here in the hot humid south I carry as light as i can. But there's always the case where i need a wiring harness and find an airbag module i need to. And it's get a T30 holding it in.I didn't bring them. Load your car up and carry light.
I count on the shop. Lol i go as a family on say a saturday . nephews myself pop's mayb 1 sister will go. We depart 530 1/4 after 6 am. We take 2 trucks . 1 hauls the tools the other will bring back the freight even if it takes a trailer to go . We stop for a fast am munch after the 1st 100 mls. The yards are in 1 area. We bring back axles, motors, transmisions you name it. Ill suggest we break bfore we head bk allow traffic to lighten up. We return anywere from 830 to 11 at nite pending how the trip goes n what commodity im bringing bk.
I go to kill bear every time! I am a mobile technician so it what i do anyway. I purchased the Milwaukee Packout system & now pack the bottom bpx with my my mid-torque, high torque, 3/8 m12 impact, 3/8 m12 ratchet, sunex impact sockets, trim tools, Gearwrench 120xp ratchets, snappy chome sockets, associated pliers/side cutters, DMM, & power probe. Test components before i leave is so much better prior to leaving.
Joe Smith likes treasure hunting in junk yards. Joe Smith makes list what to look for. Joe Smith looks to see what tools are needed for those parts. Joe Smith will also take 18v impact, socket set, wire cutters, specific tools needed for parts. Joe Smith has a bigger tool set in truck so if needed Joe Smith pays for handful he has and goes gets whatever other tools in truck needed. Sometimes Joe Smith stumbles on something he been needing for different truck but forgot.
I have scored some sick deals on like new parts at the junk yard. Like a new set of coils, MAP sensors, Throttle body. As well have found some performance parts for good prices. I like to take a can of deep creep as well with me.
I always dump almost all of my tools in a bucket boss bag and then get all pissed off while at the junkyard because I wasted three and a half hours digging through the bag for one socket.
Know myself when I go to a junkyard I try to plan for the things that are on the top of my mind but I might be able to find that would be a good quality and then I think about what I would need to pull it off and if something were to go wrong and maybe I might need an additional tool to pull it off as well as he mentioned maybe that big red wrench
One thing to do, take the part off the vehicle you are fixing, the tools you used to remove the part on the vehicle you are fixing are the ones you bring to the yard with you to get the replacement part. No need to bring your shop with you. I bring quite a few tools with me, a couple tool bags worth, I leave them all in my vehicle, I walk the lot first, if I find what I need or something else, I go back and get the tools I need, I don't lug them around the yard anymore because every unprepared person wants to borrow your tools, never let them borrow your tools, offer to take the part off for them but never let them take off with your tools. I stopped in a pick a part a few months ago just out of the blue wasn't really after anything in particular but found a trailer hitch receiver for one of my vehicles that I wasn't expecting, and of course the bolts were in so tight I couldn't break them loose with hand tools. Drove 30 miles back home, grabbed my impact and a few other tools that I figured I'd need and went back over...got the receiver hitch off in 5 minutes checked out and was headed back home....note to self: Always bring your tools with you if you are going to be anywhere near a pick a part in case you get that random urge to go part shopping, and save yourself $20 in gas and 2 hours of driving ;). I got that receiver hitch for $25...found $3.71 in change in a couple of vehicles so I paid a little over $21 LOL. Can't even find those receiver hitches anymore for that vehicle and the local hitch shop wanted $800 to install a universal one....I figured if I waited and kept watching that I'd eventually find one. It had some light surface rust on it, I took a flap disc and cleaned it all up and sprayed it with primer and undercoated it. Looks like a brand new hitch. I found a set of practically brand new tires 2 months ago for the same vehicle, don't need them but for $140 for 4 wheels and new tires it was a steal. Now I've got a spare set of wheels even if I never use the tires.
Five dollar HF Voyager bag , some 10 and 12 mills ,tin snips , pliers, big flat head ,Philips ,stubby Philip's,crescent wrench, pocket knife ,quarter inch hf socket set ,my mini green walmart prybar, and leave the rest in the trunk just incase.....did I forget anything

Tailgates sometimes
There are some things junk yards won't allow in for tools. One is anything that produces sparks, fire hazard
I just call and have the part delivered. Then again I run a body shop.
We don’t have these “you pull it out” type junkyards
Wish we did though
