Eastern Bluebird populations are on the increase after non-native birds, such as House Sparrows and European Starlings, out-competed them for nesting sites. Now, due to ongoing conservation efforts, the Eastern Bluebird population is increasing, according to the North American Breeding Bird Survey.

DIY repurposed Bluebird feeder. So easy and you probably already have what you need. I use a "tomato box" or berry box that you get when you buy them at the store. I fill with about 1/2 cup of dried mealworms and attach to a pole, plant hanger, another feeder or what ever you have. I use zip ties or long twist ties and position it so that gravity moves them down as the birds eat. The little holes in the container allow the birds to pick them out. The snap lid on top keeps them mostly dry... even in driving rain and I replace it for free when it starts to look dirty. Although not necessary, I fed a twig through the holes so they have a perch. I've been doing this successfully for more than 5 years

Love these bluebirds. We feed them, have a birdhouse for them and have seen many babies hatched out!
Same here as I started building houses 4 them and have really increased their numbers.I supply dried mealworms and H2o,which helps out alot as the blues use the bath more than any other songbirds at my Arkansas country home.

WE LIVE IN SOUTHERN WV, AND WE FEED ALL SPECIES!! BUTHERE WE HAD A SURPRISE FROM BLACK BEAR. TORE OUR FEEDERS DOWN , BENT OUR SHEPHERDS HOOK, IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE.
