Same here! Sleds from the late eighties and early nineties kicked ass! I once owned a '94 Polaris RXL Touring that could do 101 mph on a radar gun. Speedometer read like 115!! Good times!
I had one. 98 mph in half mile on radar. Bought new and immediately had wide front end installed, PSI Performance single pipe, cold air kit, oil injection mod and special needles. Ran awesome. Only problem I ever had, broke jackshaft while trail riding in UP.
So many things come into play when measuring sled velocity and performance; temperature, barometric pressure, how well your carb(s) are tuned for said temp and pressure, (Electronic Fuel Injection equipped engines were less affected by temp/pressure), fuel grade, clutch and drive belt efficiency, what type of track you have, width, weight, lug depth, power to weight ratio of the sled, the firmness of the snow/path you're travelling over, you always have to take quite a bit of track spin into account when it comes to speedometer accuracy. On average, I'd estimate between 8 to 14 mph below what the speedo reads is what you're actually travelling at. Great vid bro..brings back memories! :)
On that hard pack I find it hard to believe his track is doing any spinning at 90. He'd probably be pretty squirrelly. Though, I would like to see a gps speed compared to what the speedo says.
@@fornsphin All my years of doing radar runs with various sleds and hanging out with guys who did this all the time and tinkered constantly with carb jetting, clutch work and adjustments, there's always some track spinning involved when a sled, depending on the power to weight ratio of the sled in question of course and whether or not the track is studded, the amount of studs. It's definitely a science. Squirrellyness at take off maybe, but once you're going, again, depending on the sled, not necessarily.
2:28 90mph (keep in mind that the top of the gauge is 50mph) Good job! I just bought my machine a week ago and I'm looking to upgrade its internals. Always been my most wanted machine.
I just picked one of these up for FREE! It’s been sitting in storage for seven years. Only has 3500 miles on it. Should just need a carb clean and a fuel tank flush.
Compared to my '89 Exciter 90 is kinda sluggish when my dad got it new it kinda bogged at high RPM so he took it to this friend of his that worked at a sled shop and I have no idea what he did but it had black magic after that whipped new 700s even the newer ones does about 110 if you really push it
DUDE! What mods did you use? The best I can get mine is 77mph Maybe 80mph tops. Is it a carb adjustment? You bore out your engine? High octane gas???? WTF? LOL (I have the 1993 Exciter II ST) and I'm going to go nuts if I can't get mine to match yours lol.
I have a 94 Yamaha exciter 2 570 red and my dad has a black one my uncle gave us to get them going because my uncle his wife my cousin and his wife all have Polaris snowmobiles he got both of the Yamaha exciters for a deal so he gave them to us and a good friend gave us a 74 rupp 440 we gave my 17 year old brother for his first snowmobile last year is the first time he has ever rode a snowmobile and is the first time my dad has been on one in 23 years if my wife and I get to battle Creek before winter is over I am going to get my snowmobile running and my 81 Honda 200s three wheeler my friend that gave us the rupp 440 gave me with a shot gun and a 1978 Honda 100 enduro for getting him a years worth of fire wood and he gave me my dad and my 17 year old brother a 1964 checkmate dock nocker speed boat we are planning to get it running before spring so we all can go boating
Top speed of 90mph? Is yours race tuned also? Because im just wondering how fast mine goes my cousin was beside me in a field and he topped out at 90mph and mine still had 1/4 of a throttle to go until it was full throttle
Thats flyin on that old sled. I have more fun riding old sleds vs the new sleds. Brings back memories. Great vid

Oh ya UP bud
SO awesome, you can't go wrong with the 570!
i have a 1990 570 w/studded track they are monsters i pull wheelies from a standing start i love it power to weight ratio is enormous
It's the low and mid range in these Yamahas that are so impressive, I agree. Really who needs to go faster than 90?
@@heatmoon Racers I guess? That low end power is mighty helpful.
I had a new 1989 Exciter 2, those were great little sleds, they were easy to handle but for the most part could keep up w the big boys..

So he's really going 75 or 80 mph! That sound rite

No
Mine still did 90 with 14,000+ miles. Can't wait to see how she does this year with a fresh rebuild and .5mm overbore.

Or if its like mine, a total rebuild.
you have lots of tach left. you could probably play with your primary and get more top end out of it. and your secondary too.

I got the same sled, except mines an exciter 2. Its pretty fast for an old sled
I found my cousin Pat's 87 Exciter in the classifieds I'm thinking of buying it someone else owns it but still looks good 120 psi per cylinder
Throttle jazzing is always good for a few more mph, ya know.
I've got one of these and the fastest it will go is 112 because it is bored out to a 615
It's probably more like 100 if it were tracked on radar. That's still fast dude!!
Nate speed mercury!
I had one identical to this one, ran great
My 570 goes 130 km/h and it is stock! Only a little adjustment in the clutch
82 GPS max is what they will do. They have small die clutches. 78 hp stock. They run well!
Just got a 92 570 liquid cooled for $1000. So far so good, but i dont think ill try this lol
I just bought one last week they are snappy
No it is not raced tuned but i still had a little throttle left but i didnt want to go full throttle thinking it might hurt it.
You can go full throttle, just don't hold it there for a stupid long time.
You got yourself A new Sub!
Sweet man thanks!
I had an 87. I could see it doing 90, especially with a lighter rider.
DAMN! Was this around 2 o'clock today? And nice vid.
I like it!

St is long track. More weight, rotating mass
Sounds like you have some issues to work out. Mine did 85-90 with 14,000+ miles.
The exciter 2 has 5 more hp and larger clutches. Actually better than the exciter 1!
Sounds like it said about 6000 RPMs at full throttle. How is the clutching?

it wont hurt it as long as you dont hold it there for long
Great lookin at least!!
Thanks!
Fast for the year. Agile little sleds. Nice.

In the right conditions I think these will top 100, if you dare. I had an 84 Phazer that did over 80. Not on a trail, on ice.
The secondary opens slow
Hope there were no bumps...heaven forbid!!!
It got 90 !
I have had my 1989 phazer 500 fan going 94mph, I expected more out of a 570 liquid
I have a 570 exciter liquid but man I would trade ya for that fan cooled!
Stock phases do 78 max
I have it 108 on mine
oh boy i own that same yamaha model in midle 90.exiter is strogest yamaha model is ewer made
tfyyy
yyyyyy
