SNFU - Mid-80s.

- I'm not sure where this was filmed. Somewhere in Canada in the mid-80s. I tried to put on an SNFU show in Boise in the mid-80s, but their van broke down and they ended up staying with me at my mom's house for a week. Drummer Jon Card sent me (or let me dub, don't remember) this video. First couple of minutes are pretty jumpy video, but it gets better.
SNFU is what these kids need to listen to . The song structures, breaks, chord progressions, the stage show, Chi's lyrics , who also happens to be one of the finest front men in punk. Their music is timeless and keeps me motivated as I get closer 50 years old!!!!
Dude I'm 52 ....fucking a rock on !
Hell yeah.
He was not one of the finest front man in punk
He was the front man for punk
RIP CHI PIG
yep im 53 in 2023 and snfu still holds up and i can listen to full album and not get bored. time flies......
And the air kicks...
I shot this with NAIT buddies while in the Radio and Television Arts program. Lent out my copy and never got it back. Have not seen for decades. Indeed at Dinwoodies in the UofA Student Union building. Very glad to see it again. Edited by popping insert edits from the second camera over the master wide shot camera tape on the fly! Actually looks better than I remember it.
Sweet! This is probably a copy of a copy of a copy, unless Jon Card is who you lent it to. Thanks for the rad video!
Colin! I'm the head projectionist over at Metro Cinema at The Garneau in Edmonton. Is there a way I could get a hold of you in regards to this footage? Thanks!
Even if you just call the theatre and ask to speak to the projectionist.
Excellent work!
We thank you
So grateful to have wandered into the Anti-Club in '86 and discovered SNFU in its prime. Chi was the best frontman and lyricist of the era. One of the best ever.
86 in it’s prime? That’s a hard sell. Don’t get me wrong, the early days were great, but to line it up with their phenomenal work in the 90s? I don’t know about that!
The best line up SNFU had ....... just killer !
RIP Mr Chi. Never got to see you or SNFU play live but you’ve had a huge impact on my life. Even tatted SNFU on my hand when I was 17. Will always appreciate what you guys did for our local scene. Edmonton Punk will never be the same.
This is the SNFU I remember. Energy, Belkes, Chi.
Easily best live band ! Thank You SNFU !
Jon Card, Canada's greatest Rock drummer!
Maybel.he sounds like he is digging hard to have the best time of his *** life. Not digging, but digging,
Freaking was at this show. Didn't miss a hometown show from 85-92. Deadmontin needed this band
One of the greatest band from the late 80s, early SNFU had the best rhythm section and what can you say of Ken :-) RIP old friend
So this is definitely Edmonton. The MC is Metal Mike Berry original host of #MindCompression. this is probably Dinwoddie's at the student union bldg. this would be 1986 as its CJSR 2nd birthday. Thank you for putting this up. I was to young to go to this gig. So good, I'm watching it for the second time now.
The 80s were way cooler than anyone knows... If you were there you know...
This is the 80s music people should know! Not the mainstream bullshit at that time 🔥
This is probably from from Saturday, Feb 1, 1986. Chi announces that Muc and Bunt were celebrating their 21st birthday that night. They were born Feb1st 1965.
R.I.P. Chi Pig,great frontman.
RIP Chi, from a fellow Rangers fan
Snfu at their peak saw them same your in Los Angeles fenders ballroom Long Beach one of the best shows at their peak on if you swear youl catch no fish album tour saw them in 86/87/88 at fenders long beach up til the 3rd album stick in the eye then they just kinda burned out after that they were my favorite band during those years don't know what happened after that heard some more over the years but they kind of faded out and didn't relate to alot of stuff after that but forever those first 3 albums will forever be a big part if my youth and til I die even love the Eddie money cover of water and cat Stevens wild world.chi and snfu were the most obnoxious amazing and entertaining live band ever!! No one could ever compete or compare to them during those years.i was 16 17 and 18 when. I saw those three shows and I'm 50 now and still love these guys great lineup here too John card drums much Brent guitars Dave bacon bass chi of course too bad the tweeking caught up with him in his older age check out fenders shows long beach 86/87/88 for him at his peak live.hes like Rocky and Bullwinkle meets tasmanian devil x the roadrunner x Mickey mouse doing mime sign language/ hand gestures he's a barrel of monkeys on speed lol!! Great lyrics music extraordinary live show audience participation etc..doesn't get better than this kiddies.thank the guy that had the camcorder that night he preserved history for you when tech ology and video cameras were rare and few and far between! We couldn't even have dreamed that there would be an internet cell phones or computers that would play this footage back to you back then so appreciate what you got because we had to do things the hard way try to appreciate the footage in the sound of the videos back thenbecause the sound and the video technology wasn't there yet it was just starting to surface we are lucky to have any of this preserved at all as a time capsule sometimes I'm amazedat the fact that I'm even really looking back watching this nowif you would have asked me then I would have never thought it to be possible to be watching this right now at 50 years old when I was 16 17 and 18 back then thank God for technology and inventions like UA-cam it's the communicator to the world one day no one will ever be oppressed again we're unable to find thingsthat they don't know about if they have an interest to search for them
RIP mr pig, such a legend... was a pleasure to work with you...
Rest in peace chi pig absolutely brilliant, thanks
This era- mid to late '80s was their best i agree! the live shows i saw back then in Regina were so full of energy, positive energy (mostly)😝 if you were slamming in the pit and fell, instantly 2 hands were grabbing under your arms picking you up. This is rare to see now but then, i recall leaving many shows feeling like I'd been through a huge cardio workout but in a therapist's office Schnitzel Haus
Those were some great shows, and also at the Lazy Owl. I really would like to see the pics from that one guy who was the photographer at every show :)
One of my fave punk bands. Especially loved those first 2 LP's.
Before METH took Chi to the shit side of life. Kids don't do drugs. RIP CHI!
Best line up ever. Even if I love the epitaph years!
I was definitely at this show, I was working at CJSR at the time doing an eclectic show plus the Hardest Core with Louis "Schism" Pezzani, and I remember attending the 2nd birthday event at Dinwoodie. Though not the original SNFU lineup, this was definitely a great one and most would consider this their heyday.
Excellent! thank you for posting this. i have been to 18 snfu shows; regina (8), winnipeg (5), calgary (3), vancouver (2). i still have the shirts & stickers. i never saw them in edmonton. in the only live video from the winnipeg show that i could find you might know that i jumped from the left speaker stack>>> yes 25 years ago
This is punk rock that comes from the heart
I'm back in junior high. Thanks for the upload!
I seen them around the same time frame at fenders I believe opening for the instigators and circle jerks.. they're one of the bands that no album can capture how awesome they were live
Miss this band!
they mentioned CJSR so it was probably at the SUB (students union building) theatre university of Alberta in Edmonton. pretty sure I was at this show.... everything was a bit hazy back in the 80s. Saw That petrol emotion and soul asylum and a few other bands there.
U guys got the skills to pay the bills
RIP Chi Pig - July 16, 2020. This year can eat my ass.
If this is indeed Muc's 21st birthday 9:54 that would make this Feb 1st, 1986. And if this is for CJSR, this would be Edmonton.
This is frigging great, like a time capsule. Thanks so much for posting.
Thanks for the upload. Fantastic.
Fantastic! Would've loved to hear the rest of 'Nervous Breakdown' at the end there.
Fantastic drumming!
I saw them at Spartans when they brought in the first box of ...and no one else.... I could’ve bought the very first copy. But it was that or see the show. I was ten.
Great memories. Even though the recording was pretty glitchy at the start it was still great to see Mike Berry. Could be Dinwoodie but it might also be the Power Plant. I would guess it is on Campus as Mike used to work security at Deweys for the SU. The last time I actually spoke to Ken Chinn was at one of Mike Berry's Halloween parties; maybe 1988? Great times. SNFU was so much fun back in the day. RIP Ken Chinn.
was it health related?
Nice upload, thanks!
Awesome thx for the vid. At their best..
we had this live sent to us around late 80's but it was on cassette tape with some hand made xero cover . Good stuff .
frikin amazing
Only ever got to see them once; Packing House in Kelowna BC, 1987. Killer show. Stay away from the hard drugs kiddies!
Wow Thanks for posting... brings me back. kinda looks like the republik
13:48 Plastic Surgery Kept Her Beautiful amazig! way better than the studio version.
They mention Euthanasia (another Edmonton band) going on tour. We opened for both bands at different times in the eighties.
Rusty Von Hammerdown who were you with???
nobody i guess
@@jasonvadeboncoeur5870 Neighbourhood Watch. We had a 5 song EP on the UK label, Real World Records, a track on a comp EP put out by another UK label, Loony Tunes, and we just released a new album this month.
This must be in Edmonton. Chi mentions CJSR.
Yes, CJSR is the college radio station in my hometown of Edmonton.
15:00 the ceiling😎
If this is CJSR's second birthday, I think this would be early 1986?
Ya i also agree with another comment saying Jon Card best drummer in rock, he's great to be sure but my preference for those early years was Ted Simm seeing that guy play blew my mind every time. Also a fantastic guy😀
It's not actually CJSR's 2nd birthday. They had been around for decades and the original incarnation became CKUA I believe. It is the 2nd anniversary of CJSR getting an FM transmitter. Before that they were only available on Cable-FM. RIP Ken Chinn.
That's why the poster for the show said CJSR's 2nd 2nd Birthday
Definitely Edmonton, but I can't decide on the venue. I don't remember seeing them at the Bronx around that time but that doesn't mean I didn't :-) . I know I saw them at the Dinwoodie around that time, but the stage looks smaller and the lights are lower than I remember at the Dinwoodie. I mostly saw them at Spartan's Mens Club. It seemed like every 2nd weekend for a while between late '83 and early '85 or so.
Same here. Spartan's was so important to the local scene.
pretty sure Students Union Building.
This is the best lineup snfu ever had and that tour was incredible also the shows at fenders lballroon long Beach 86 87 89 86 no one else wanted to play tour 87 if you swear youl catch no fish tour and 89 more fun than a stick in the eye tour

Teenage years in the lasting impression that lasted a lifetime and still digging watching it now at 50 years old thank you for being snfu
U guys rule I need a hoody
the best show.
Dinwoodie or Polish Hall? RIP Chi
25:31 cannibal cafe
Yhis was in Edfmonton
JON CARD RIPS
RIP CHI
I think this might be 10 foot Henry's
Yer joking right? Ten Foot Henry's was TINY TINY TINY with a stage 10" tall and a capacity of about 100. This is the Dinwoodie Lounge at the UofA in Edmonton during a CJSR funding drive. My living room is legit more spacious than Ten Foot Henry's was. It may have been tiny but that just made the energy coming off the stage waaaay more intense. Fun place.
I was 15 - 16 when I frequented 10 foots and things are a bit fuzzy from then.
@@drQue It's all good man. 👍

I'm Real Scared
Early 80s? 86+?
Possibly. The tour where I put them up was 84 or 85. It is possible Jon sent this to me in 86 or 87. Other comments seem to peg it around 1986.
87
Dave Bacon and Ted Simm
pretty sure thats jon card not ted simm. regardless great show and their best line up
@@emh6407 Dave Bacon told me that yes, that is Jon Card.
