keeping a hot hand (hand warmer) in your bag for particularly cold concert halls (or even outside) can help keep your hands flexable. they're small and easy to just throw in with everything. they're really great

Came across this video again! I’ve been a lip balm addict for decades. I saw this video last year sometime, and shortly after I saw that brand of lip balm at my local grocery, I had never noticed it before. It is the best! It moisturizes without being greasy, I can put it on lightly and play without having to wipe it off. And because it’s beeswax-based, it has a light and lovely scent. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

Ahhh! It’s great. I recently found a great South African alternative as well that is also made with bees wax! It’s the best

I'm a guitarist, but I find it sooo useful to have a highlighter with me at rehearsals, and I always have a set of earplugs. I play with a lot of drummers, but even when I am playing with an orchestra, every now and then I'm put right in front of the brass section and I get blasted!
Also keep clothes pugs to keep the music down if I'm playing outside

Thank you so much for this video. I actually added a few things to my flute bag that I didn't even think to include until I watched this video! I got a little pouch where I keep all of my things now. I also got a pouch with essentials for my dad who is learning keyboard.
Could you maybe do a video where you recommend some actual flute bags that are reasonably priced or talk about bags that you have used?

Big binder clip in case you get a sinking or floppy stand. Clothes pins to secure music on windy days (outside concerts) or in places with ceiling fans (church)😁

Binder clip!!! That is so smart… you know what I have discovered that works better than clothing pins…long hair clips. Those ones that look like crocodile faces or long beaks. They grab more of the music and keep it in place!

Thank you for the hint about the propolis; I will pick some up and give it a try. I use tea-tree oil when I feel a sore lip coming on, and it's great, but it doesn't have the protective layer. I'm learning to stop playing for a bit when I get to that point. You might look at a brand of `lip ice' called ChopSaver. One of those for-musicians-by-a-musician things. In my bag? Handkerchiefs. I found a bag of vintage ones from back in the day when everyone carried such things. They make good flute swabs as well as covering a cough or catching a nose-drip, so I usually have a few spares tucked in there. (I've had young people ask what they were. =o) I was kind of hoping that you had a flute in the bag, and were going to tell us about it.

I never really leave home without it.....that is the rolling papers...killing two birds with one stone, wink wink.Seriously though, it seems I might give off a little more than normal condensation around the mouthpiece causing some slippage with my embouchure. Do you think the chapstick might be of some use, or is this a unusual problem? Thanx in advance you foxy lady you.
