Something very interesting about this show.
This episode was based on a old idea to introduce the ATHF in Space Ghost in 1999, but didn't go through because it focused entirely on the ATHF and was rejected, resulting in the creation of the show itself. When ATHF became popular, Dave Willis and Matt Maiellero rewrote their original script and it became this episode, Baffler Meal, but initially aired 3 years after ATHF was already broadcast on Cartoon Network, for the 2003 Adult Swim New Years Eve Marathon.
It was sort of a way to fool people into thinking that ATHF's origins began as a Space Ghost Coast to Coast episode... which is _half_ the truth, but this episode was produced _after_ ATHF already existed. They intentionally made the characters more prototypical, including design and voices, just to fool people. That's a mindfuck if I've ever heard of one.
and it worked! for the longest time I really thought this was the first appearance of athf (I did not have cable and watched C2C by less than legal means) and was so surprised to learn the show had been on for years when this aired

The funny thing is how close to the actual show this ended up being. All they really needed to change was Shake’s voice and Frylock.

When I look back at the prototypes of Shake and Frylock, I can only think of the Mooninites (Ignignokt and Err) speaking and interacting with the Space Ghost cast

It's been a while since I watched it, but I once saw an episode of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast where he interviewed Mark Hamill and Space Ghost kept calling him Luke Skywalker but he never got the name right, so at one point Hamill corrects him by saying, "It's Luke Skywalker!" and Space Ghost replies, "Yeah, that's what I said, 'Duke Fartknocker.'"
I'm probably slightly misremembering it, but it makes me chuckle every time I think about that bit. lol

This is my favorite episode of all the space ghost cartoons. I remember laughing hysterically the entire episode… i truly miss this show, and it’s beautiful absurdity!
Space Ghost changed the entire world of adult cartoons.
But sadly it devolved. I still haven't found adult animations of this variety in years.
Knowing the direction they went with Aqua Teen in its own spin off series, it's weird seeing them in this early concept phase. Especially Frylock. Meatwad is still the same, lmao.

@@ratking9577 Yeah, it was a more unique and interesting voice he had as Zorak and Moltar than the 60s version's voices which sound while good, not as unique as Crocker's.
@@bradyking9778 the only way it could work without him is if a voice actor or voice actors could do the voices of Zorak and Moltar exactly like he did them, but the list of people who could do that is very small.

I wish they had a crossover between this version of the Aqua Teens and the finalized version from the series.
There was a crossover in the form of Adult Swim bumpers on New Years Eve 2003 and it involved all of the characters from the Williams Street shows(Sealab 2021, Brak Show, Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law), not just Space Ghost and ATHF. They were fairly funny but also kind of a downer as they confirmed that SGC2C and The Brak Show were getting cancelled.
Clay should get a writer's credit.
