""Unless you're rockin' more than 500 hp with four-wheel drum brakes, then you get plus 10 points because you are a fearless badass!" God, that just KILLED me! I laughed so hard I cried. Watched all your videos this morning and subscribed! Great information and great humor!
So i think it has to be also narrowed down. Plus 10 for four wheel power drums, like my car originally had, or four wheel manual drum brakes, which ive seen on so many others. Them bad boys deserve plus 20 if they got over 500 with 4 wheel manual drum brakes.
Using your criteria, my 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 scores 35 to 40 depending on the 5 point deduction for rear drum brakes. It is obvious the features which once defined a "muscle car" are now lost. I will never understand the propensity many have to take an old car and try, usually in vain, to make it a modern car. When I want a modern car, I buy a modern car. When I want a "true" muscle car...well you get my point.
+80 points, for winning it's bracket consistently over all the rest. As I grew up, watching my neighbor's WIFE drive their Pontiac GTO Judge to routine wins over Fords, Chevys and Mopars with 'only' it's 400 cubic inch engine, I learned the value of engineers getting the most out of everything they were putting into their engines.
Red Devil deductions: -5 for no engine through hood, so 95. I'll bet the ride height is greater than 4" since Mark's builds have a ton of functionality built into them. It's an awesome build, as are all of his creations.
That is concerning as the Grand National is a legit badass car, especially for its time! But maybe not a pure muscle car? Plus, in some ways the test is more of a Pro-Touring test. Perhaps I should have added a few more questions to the test. Maybe I will re-make it based on user feedback.
@@AutoGuild i dont agree with 1971-2003 for 0 pts! And not only because i have an 80s (just a pony, soon to b a warhorse ;) ), but because 70s had pretty badass muscle cars/trucks as well
In the real world, people tell me that my 1978 Trans Am is Bad Ass all the time. Freshly-rebuilt Pontiac 400 with correct modifications, adding HP and making it what it should have been to begin with. Sometimes, exceeding 500 HP is not necessary for a good cruising car like a 78 TA. 400+ HP, headers, custom exhaust, glistening black twilight paint, red decals, split exhaust tips, a thumping cam, and lots of great original attributes overall. It never gets old when I roll up to the gas pump. "Hey man, that is one bad ass ride!"
I meant more for people with modern cars, some cars can sit pretty low right out of the box. It will transfer for some schools, but I'd double check with your school counselor. : )
@Auto Guild, you missed three, very important muscle car categories: * exhaust note from a choppy cam, * type of rims/wheels, and * whether the car is "jacked up" (i.e., "rake").
There ought to be credit for appearance and certain options, like the car has a custom paint job or custom exhaust, or it has a sunroof or it's a convertible.
Excellent Criteria. Well Done A+ My old 77 AMC Hornet scored " Zero" which is exactly 💯 percent right. It was a Zero. Model Year should include 5pts for LS1 4th Gen's 1998-2002 as they played a major factor in the early years of the 2nd Golden Era of High Performance
Sweet.... 65 points for my 2005 C6 Z51. The cam/exhaust/intake gives me the extra 5pts for 500+hp... I'll be damned if I'm sticking anything out of the hood 🤣🤣
I have a 5.0 crowd killer, but i will always rank my first Camary above all else. She was a 1998 but i swear she drove herself and always got me home 🥲
My 69 Camaro SS 540 scored 80 points as did my 70 Corvette 540. Interestingly, my 1980 Unimog 406 monster truck (the slowest vehicle ever built) scored 25 points.
Good to know that my Mark VIII has a maximum potential of 55 while still retaining a relatively sleeper look. On another note My Mark as it is now, scores 20, while my Expedition scores 30.
I'm at 70 with a 68 (four-door) Dodge Polara with just over 500 HP racing build 440. I'm going to lower it a little more for that 10 extra points. 🙂 Fun Video, great work.
I got a highly modify 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix LE with Schwartz chassis with 14 inch front disc brakes with 6 piston calibers on the rear 13 inch breaks with 6 piston calibers. It has 3 way adjustable coil overs. Engine is a Butler performance twin turbo 535 cubic inch Pontiac v8 with a 6 speed manual with a hurst shifter. The car only weigh at 3000 pounds.
2005 CL55Kompressor - 75 points... some mods but it’s big, low(adjustable ride height) sounds great with exhaust and supercharger whine and it can fit in at the best hotels or at a street race. Also uses the legendary M113k engine. German muscle car.
2013 Challenger SRT8 scored 70. 295/35R20 Nitto Invo's just missed 5 more points, future nitrous system will get 5 more when it happens. Already enough mods to reach 500 HP.
I think the year range should have went to 74 when the motors shrunk but I'm biased with a 71 Chevelle. It did beat my truck by 15 to 25 points depending on if rear tire width for duals is additive or not. I mean 4x235s in the back is more rubber than 2x305s.
The Muscle Car Era Never stopped Mate!... at least in Australia till the last of the Falcon's and Commodore's rolled off the assembly line in Melbourne and Adelaide in 2017 and 2018 respectively. Hell if it wasn't for the Aussies there wouldn't have been a reborn Camaro or GTO. Btw, my Falcon scored 50. And isn't finished yet. Once I find the time to finish and the exact parts(EL Falcon GT brakes) there's another 10, and the turbo bolted on another 10. You cannot look just within your borders... yes the Germans have produced bad arsed mf Muscle Cars, as did Australia and South Africa.
My 69 Camaro scored a 70. Bigger brakes, tires and a supercharger that pokes out the hood gives it 100, but if I kept the nitrous, wouldn't that be a score of 105?
My fox body 86 TBird track toy scored 50 and my 2008 Vette scored 60. But guess which one gets more attention at a gas station? There should have been a categories for exhaust sound. Cam lope with race bullets +10. Factory idle with quiet mufflers 0.

45 or 50 for my Duster I disagree with the year cut off. But I think it deserves another 20 because it is a full SCCA SPO track car on the street. Gutted with a full 25 point DOM cage, 2 Kirky seats, and Simpson belts. Lakewood, Mopar, Wilwood and a custom clutch bearing does the clutch. Wilwood and a Speedway modified rear disc kit do the brakes. 1:2 steering quickener by Howe iirc, Custom (by me) road race wet sump 11 total quarts with a 3 qt accumulator and cooler. The oil pan is so damn cool I made drawings and patterns so I can repeat it. Onboard halon system I built myself with a control valve for the option of dumping it all on the motor. An escape hatch with a quick pin release system painted and setup like an ejection handle. I built a full lower body foot box to keep the ol legs pointed straight in a wreck. I built a loose fuel dam between the rear firewall and seat so if fuel gets past the rear firewall it is trapped in the rear floor pan so it can't go under the seat and into the foot box. The fuel cell lines, pump, filter and electrics are designed to move with the cell for a large displacement wreck without tearing any of it. Fuel Safe 22 gal FIA cell. The fuel cell is in it's own cage. The rear deck lid pins are designed to shear if the cell blows up giving the gas somewhere to go except through the firewall. The fairings in the trunk are straight cardboard so they will blow out in an explosion. Custom honey comb material for all body fairings and interior panels, instrument and switch mounts. LED instrument panel indicator lights. Reset aviation circuit breakers on the instrument panel. My red flood light dimmer is from a Boeing 727. Lots of small parts are 727. 4 wheel discs with a Wilwood balance bar master cylinder mounted in the cabin. Polyurethane everywhere. Race springs and shocks. Custom adjustable sway bars. Custom adjustable large rear spoiler, and honey comb air dam with brake ducts. The whole front of the car is sealed. I get my oil cooler air from the right headlight bucket. It has an anti Porsche ram built under the rear bumper. It will cave the front end of a Porsche if it knifes under the rear before it can get to the fuel cell. But it's light because it's made from muffler pipe. The only glass is a DOT windshield and rear for aero but either can be removed in a few minutes. The doors are gutted and trimmed inside, but other wise fully functional because the SCCA requires they open. Interior trim is Cenconite aircraft wing covering cloth. It glues on, shrinks tight with an iron, weights less than a shirt, and paints like anything else. My lock when I park it is the steering wheel. I take it with me. And it's a legal driven street car. Runs on 91. 3.89s for get up and go, and an overdrive to go 160. You gotta be my size and be comfortable peeking just over the hood to drive it. The seat is LOW and raked. It weighs 3300 lb. 52/48 weight dist which aint bad for stock geometry. I'm an airplane mechanic and everything is done the way it's done on airplanes. I put every trick I ever learned into that car. I only have 20 grand in it. It's a bass ass Street Stock class stock car with a cheater motor, suspension, and brakes. No damn stereo or heater. If it rains you get wet. But it does have wipers with custom links to clear the master cylinders behind the panel. It's worth 70 points.
A Shaker hood scoop on a Ford, Trans Am or Mopar should be 10pt Original MC years should extend to 1971 on some models and 74 on Pontiac TAs. Seemed other than compression, someone at Pontiac missed the GM memo?

The hood is functional it just doesn't grab air for the intake so i took 5 points.

So a 55 for a '70 Cougar with a Cobra Jet...... Seems low.
I got a 60 i got a 1977 camaro with a 454 bored out to a 468 548hp to the rear wheels mechanical lsd 4 inch cowl hood fuel cell and battery in the trunk with chevy rally wheels and a vinyl top all black 13 inch 4 wheel disc brakes u can probably see it in my pfp
So you're saying an original Jet black 63 galaxie 500 would only score 25? Sure. If you say so.
1999 Dakota r/ t Nuff said
Lol
Are you doing one for an import??
I could, I'll have to think about that. Thanks for the tip!
Auto Guild I saw you put the 350z but ranked it low! You can’t compare the two! That’s like comparing a banana to a cucumber lol.
@@alcam4226 I know, that was kinda the point. I may do a tuner test or something similar, let me think about that. BTW, love the 350Z, I had a 2003! : )
When your 99 Durango is more badass than your 67 mustang... 35:30
My TransAm didn’t do to bad with a score of 70. The only question I scored a zero on was #7 no power adder☹️lol
My Lincoln only scored 40, lol, However with 16" Ford HPP wheels, and Toyo Proxes R888R tires I can get a higher score....Can I get a few points for it being a Mob classic? I mean it will never win a race, but it wont have to if the other driver is locked in my trunk!
so your saying my stock 96 LT4 Collectors Editions is not even worth owning by your book
My stock 82 trans am is just "basic transportation" :(
The gospel according to who...?
I got a 60 for my camaro :D
“How badass is your MUSCLE CAR?” A 350Z, Mercedes make it on the list? Someone’s does not know how to classify vehicles 🤦🏽♂️
Stock 2009 Mazda3 2.3 GT score: Big Fat Zero! :)
What about transmissions? I have a 73' Cougar with a Boss 351 cleveland and a T10 4spd what is that worth?
My 84 Silverado got a score of 0 lmao 😂
When your car has 498 horsepower
My 67' 327ci El Camino got 40 points and my 72' 472ci Coupé Deville got the same score as my 2006 Peugeot 307 winter beater with rod knock (20 points), thats just sad
You can take pretty much any of the street outlaws and get a 100 my personal car a 1970 Chevy nova got a 65
1987 Buick GNX scored 30????
1970 Camaro scored 80 Corvette zo6 brakes killed it
Correction 85 maybe 90
so what about the interior wouldn't that tip in on how badass a muscle car would be
My 67 GTO scored a 75, pretty good for an old GOAT. Do I get extra points for having Twin Super Chargers? If so maybe I scored 80-85.
Rhe Demon.
C’mon, I got a bone stock ‘88 iroc z and there is no way it can make it to 50, let alone 30😂
My bone stock 85 z28 only got 25 points.
@@blueeyeswhiteguy3399 ikr, it should be higher, but that damn gas crisis f*cked everything up😂
@@Uhhhboots Facs. Although counting it back up again with what I want to do to the car over the years. It scored an 85. So one of these days it's gonna be a badass.
@@blueeyeswhiteguy3399 yeah, idk what mine would be if I went off all the plans I got for mine but it will be up there one day
@@blueeyeswhiteguy3399 my bone stock ‘15 z28 only got 85 points. ☮️
