Thank you for this video. Made me really happy to see someone enjoying my music and reacting to it "live". I'll definitely check out your other videos!
Whoa hey! Thanks for checking it out, big fan of your stuff so far! I recently did King's Court and have some others the community requested as well. ^_^
This song in particular was an absolute godsend for the mission it was set in. The sheer insanity of the level backed by this track was wild, it's my favourite song in the soundtrack. Can't wait to hear more amazing music from you and more reactions from Jesse.
i played through the game for the first time this week and I loved the music. why do I hear the motif from weather girls 'it's raining men' so much... not a complaint mind you
"Meanwhile, off the coast of f*ing Alaska, the Federation is sending transport aircraft to help the war effort. These aircraft were intercepted, and the interception, was intercepted. Progressing for nine hours until the entire airforces of the two nations are all fighting. In the same place and - um, wow, it's time to talk about that!"
For context this plays for the mission where the 2 factions get into a back and forth of sending reinforcements until THE ENTIRE AIRFORCE is in that fight. Canonically. Also if you play on expert this mission gets an actual anime title card at the start.
"Entire kingdoms are found by people like him." "He's still a merc." "Not every king is just." You were right to think Ace Combat! Project Wingman is a spiritual successor to the Ace Combat series, made by AC fans, for AC fans. It's the first project I ever supported on Patreon and man was it worth it. I've beaten the games campaign 5 or 6 times at this point and modded the snot out of the game. Having a jet shoot 400 missiles in every single direction and lag the fuck out of the game is amazing. Project Wingman is a masterclass in making the player and main character feel amazing. Your callsign is Monarch, you're a king of the skies and every damn character knows it. When you do something dope it's not long before a character goes "holy shit, dude". This song plays during what is in my opinion the most fun mission in the game. To put it simply, you intercept the bad guys, bad guys send interceptors for your interception, you intercept their interception-interception, ect. There are allied and enemy planes everywhere, the smoke of missile trails is almost blinding, and now you get to show everyone that you're more than "just a merc".
"My IFF is working overtime!" "Then clear it up... by shooting them down!" The pure scale and insanity of Showdown and Mission 11 was just so awesome. You just dont understand until you play it. It gets even better if you put the double enemy planes mode on. It is just completly stupid fun and its amazing.
This game was made by 3 people: the programmer/artist, the writer and the composer. Not counting the voice actors, they were hired using Kickstarter money. YOU NEED THREE PEOPLE TO MAKE A GAME OF THAT SCALE. All you need to know about modern video game industry is that multi-billions corps can't deliver anything remotely as enjoyable as 3 passionate guys who love what they do. Think about it. Maybe we can do fine without them.
I mean, they already had the whole gameplay worked out. Make it ace combat. Still of an immense quality for 3 people. Especially since there’s only 1 programmer. Dude must be a fucking god of their craft
Jose Pavli did very well to capture the Ace Combat feeling while doing his own original take. Showdown is definitely one of the standout tracks for the game (hence the request xD). The incredibly catchiness and fast pace of this track was intentional since this plays during a massive furball, and some of the parts you identified I believe are based on the characters' personalities. Jose made a video explaining the composition design he was going for, though I wouldn't listen to it yet since he goes over some tracks I hope to hear you react to first :P Can't wait to hear more Project Wingman reactions from you--without looking at the request list, I know exactly what the other one is, and that should tell you how good it is. EDIT: Turns out I was wrong, but happily wrong :D
Jose made a pair of videos on his channel outlining how the PW soundtrack is based heavily on themed sections. In my interpretation, the big string orchestra representing the geopolitical behemoth that is the Pacific Federation, the higher-pitched sort of swinging brass "movie hero" orchestration representing the "good guy" rebel forces of Cascadia, the twangy acoustic guitars representing the player's wingmen who are sort of "goofy local yokels," and those stanky rock guitars representing the rockstar that is the protagonist. The mission this song plays for is essentially every plane belonging to every air force dogpiling into one sector to duke it out, so of course all the themes are blended together and sort of fighting for the limelight throughout the song, popping into and over each other with every phrase.
Oh also i want to reccomend the guardians of the galaxy games ost every song by star lord kicks ass i would reccomend one but all are such high quality it's hard to do but i would say watch me shine , ghost , or darkness inside are some of the best
"Federation Airforce General: I want every God danm bird in the air or else we loose too many men out there!" "Cascadian Airforce General: We need more birds! Bounty hunter, Mercenary anything we can send!" " Federation & Cascadian officer: Sir, Everyone? " "Both Generals: E V E R Y O N E !!!!!!!" ("Showdown" Music start playing in the screen)
Later, Magadan, Russia/Pacific Federation, near the Bering Strait... (1 HOUR AFTER PEACEKEEPER DEPLOYMENT) AWACS | Vita « It's chaos right now! Command screwed up somewhere, the Cascadians routed our forces and we lost the entire transport operation! »
One thing that sticks out to me in this track is just how harmonious and complimentary the rock and roll/almost country sounding elements are with the orchestral elements. It suggests to me that Cold War is the moment where the Cascadian Independance Force REALLY begin to accept Sicario among their own number. The slight country vibe of the rough and tumble northwestern rural rebels, the tight, composed coordination of an orchestra being evocative of the kind of outfit that Sicario is... I'm probably not articulating this well, but it's been on my mind since I first played Mission 11.
because this music is so different from the rest of the OST and more "anime-like", in New Game Plus they in fact make the intro of the mission look like anime opening
Also Context: each side of the war is reinforcing an ongoing battle for important supplies, both escalating more and more like the sinking ship: the cost of the battle became higher but no one wants to retreat. Up to you, the Monarch of the skies, to win this chaotic furball dogfight
So basically, your faction sends interceptors to intercept an enemy formation, the enemy sends interceptors to intercept your interception, and your faction sends more interceptors to intercept the enemy's interception of your interceptors, the process repeats until you have both factions' entire air forces in this massive furball of a dogfight. And this is when the player's squadron arrives on the scene.
IT'S PROJECT WINGMAN!! *Kings* and Peacekeeper I/II have got to be next! I recommend having a look at Destiny 2's extensive soundtrack too. Loving the content, keep it up!
Showdown is such a FREAKING BOP! It's so good! Let's just head over to Jose's channel and check out the comments on his own video... Holup... Trumpets... drums... synth... strings... all done by Jose "on his Mac" as he puts it. The ENTIRE soundtrack done by a single guy? If he keeps making music for games, I absolutely guarantee he's got many, many well deserved awards in his future.
this song plays during "Cold War" which is an extended battle where "Every combat capable aircraft is either participating or en route." and one of the few times I had adrenaline running through my veins while playing it. I wish I could play the game for the first time again. definitely worth a playthrough at least once
project wingman is a fighter jet game that takes place after an apocalyptic event on earth that makes the world look a bit funny, and that apocalyptic event leaves some natural resource known as cordium, and with cordium you can make bombs, so then when all these other countries are making bombs this federation for some reason isnt so it gets angry and does war, so you play as a mute mercenary that obliterates anything for money in this war which has a very _unique_ weapon system officer.. _muffled female manical laughing coming from the distance_ This game's players is at least 90% ace combat players, we all think its basically the little brother of ace combat, and the graphics are as well designed too.
Ayo Jesse, if you loved Showdown, you need to check out Peacekeeper 1, and Kings, those two are the most important OSTs in the game, and quite possibly the most intimidating.
I'm pleasantly surprised! I was excited partially because it was something that wasn't yet another piece of Final Fantasy music, and now I'm excited because it's a great piece of music!
Not that there's anything wrong with Final Fantasy music, I love it, but there's been a lot of it. Hopefully Jesse doesn't get tired of it, pacing yourself is important.
The soundtrack of this game convinced me to buy it on steam. It's another AMAZING masterpiece of video game OST that came out of nowhere. I've been paying attention to this game ever since it was campaigned as a Kickstarter project (I believe it was around 2018, 2019 maybe) which started greatly inspired by the hype generated around the Ace Combat 7. I even remember watching an early beta version of the game on youtube, before they've commissioned Jose Pavli to work on the soundtrack, and that beta gameplay was using the song Dual Wielder from AC 7. And I thought "Ok, an interesting competition on the 'dogfighting games' scenario... This game has potential..." So after I heard the entire soundtrack, I decided to look for it on Steam, and there it was, at a good price, so "why not?". Still haven't started playing it though... Just the soundtrack alone - and particularly THIS song - got me hyped for it.
I didn't check out project wingman yet (although I did play an early demo years ago) but to me it feels like those Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) BGMs combined with Ace Combat 7 style of music.
This entire game is a giant love letter to ace combat One day you've gotta get around to doing "kings" from this soundtrack, it's the final boss theme of the game, making it the equivalent to "zero" or "megalith"
Man, you gotta do more of these. Would love to see your reaction to Ace Combat Assault Horizon's soundtracks. Like White Devil, Naval Warfare, Rush, and Keep Alive. God tier drums and guitar in there.
The feds interceptor intercept our interceptor that intercept their interceptor that intercept our interceptor that intercept their interceptor Hey you listening to me?

Violence.. A lot of violence
You forgot the best part!
"Until the entire airforces of the two nations are fighting. In the same place. EVERY AIRCRAFT."
ah yes the theme for "every combat capable aircraft on this side of the planet is here or is enroute"
For context this plays for the mission where the 2 factions get into a back and forth of sending reinforcements until THE ENTIRE AIRFORCE is in that fight. Canonically.

Bonus points for the main character when you realize his emblem is actually a butterfly that looks like a crown from afar.
@@AlexanderMartinez-kd7cz and said butterfly species is actually called "Monarch" too btw
