Joel said such hurtful words because he loved Ellie as his child. He wanted her to be angry with him so she would leave with his brother and be safe - at least that's what he believed.
"Ellie...! You are treading on some... mighty thin ice here" Troy Baker is far too perfect for this world. The man literally created a croak in the throat to emphasize Joel's feelings of not getting over the death of Sarah. Not only that but the "You have no idea what loss is" is a quote I will forever stand by. Joel is right. The most Ellie loses are friends or people she traveled with. Joel literally lost his way of life. He had to endure the hardships of dealing with a totally new world where you always have to be thinking of yourself or how to survive. Ellie was born in the quarantined world. Joel had to deal with whatever came his way since day one.
@@smoker5989What? Sorry to break it to you, but everyone dies eventually. If that means that everything they did no longer has meaning then, ok, that's a way to look at the world I guess, but it's a pretty stupid one.
To be completely honest, the only reason I think Joel is like this is because he has grown so emotionally close to Ellie in the time that he has been with her. Through all the stress of his daughter and Tess, Ellie and Joel are both strong characters and are emotionally fit for each other. He does truly love her like a daughter but doesn't understand this until he has to save her over and over again, figuring that he doesn't want he to leave. And she doesn't want him to leave either.
The song played in this cutscene is found on The Last of Us - Vol. 2 and is titled "All Gone (Reunion)" Such a beautiful song- very emotional. Hope that helps for those of you who were looking for it.
In my opinion he is cruel to protect himself from his feelings. Up until to this point of the game Joel made it his mission to not get Ellie too close to his heart. He rejects almost every opportunity to bond with her. Certainly fearing he may have to experience a similar loss to his daughter.
In a world where anyone can die at anythime, and you might not even know about for possibly years, its abit inconprehesive to say that. Joel could be a dick at time sure but je also lived through the misery that is mankind after losing his daughter. Now add to that pride and years or expirience that made him cold-hearted and you have a hard man to get to know. Also isnt ellie kind of selfish, just like joel in that sense, since she is kind of, in a way, demanding that joel care more about her when he doent want to.
1:27 And there's Ellie's curse as character. Her greatest fear is to be alone. And everyone she cares about, Railey, Sam, Dina, Tess, has either died or decided to leave her. But the only one that decided to stay with her no matter what happened, was Joel. Death was the only thing that could separate them, cause he would never leave Ellie alone. Her curse continues, and she lost the only person that would be forever by her side.
"i trust tommy more than i trust myself" is one of the most subtle, character building lines in all of entertainment. really shows the whole point of the story, Joel learning to be a father again
When Joel says “you’re treading on mighty thin ice here” to me this is how I thought Joel felt. But he is too scared to admit that he is emotionally attracted and treats Ellie like his daughter but Joel is too terrified to admit it because he knows he could lose her.... and why would any man want to lose a daughter twice yeknow? Enough said....
I think Joel only acts that ways because he just rode a fucking horse over snowy, hilly terrain, and fought off a fucking hunter ambush just to find her. He was just really tired and frustrated.
This is one of if not THE best acted scene in the entire game. The feelings behind their voices and also how the animation team handled their expressions is outstanding.
