Congrats young man. My son is working on a low voltage crew now and is signed up for SLTC for August. I am a proud dad as I'm sure your parents are of you
My cousin graduated from SLTC a few months ago and is loving his job. Your son made the right choice in school. I plan on going there after I graduate high school myself
For real everybody talking about locking the knees and I would come down with crippling pain afterwards. I started bending the knees just slightly and no more pain! Do whats best for you I'd say.
it’s how you position yourself on the pole, and if you have an entry level boot that’ll also cause pain in the legs as a good pair of line boots should come with dual shanks.
I’m afraid of height and made it all the way to the top of a 40ft pole. Pretty scary but what helped me overcome that fear is taking the gaffs out the pole and just sitting on your belt like you’re on a swing.
You’re not. My mentor graduated his apprenticeship at 46. I just entered the apprenticeship at 42, slated to complete at 45. I weight lift each night, eat clean, run, stretch, keep in athlete shape. All is good. Get after it.

That's interesting, as a lineman myself who also does line clearance for my utility, I helped my brother start a tree business that also became the most successful business locally. I've learned that the line clearance crews have a razor thin margin of profit because just about any tree crew out there wants in on it because it's so easy. In fact, my brother's business doesn't even bid line clearance because there is no money to be made when any idiot can cut the branches away from the lines. How can you say you deal with electricity when you have to adhere to a strict minimum approach distance? We are the ones actually putting our hands on the energized lines, there is no utility out there that allows tree trimmers to touch power lines. There's a reason lineman make twice as much money, and maybe some of them consider you a hero because you're doing all the simple minded backbreaking work that lineman don't want to do. It's actually ironic because lineman are expected to know how to rig, trim, and fell trees, it's actually required in order to become a journeyman. Utilities only contract their tree work out because it's cheaper.
The schools are good but dont think you havta go to them to start your apprenticeship. You can jump on literally any company. Most of these schools get your money, make you climb and intern for 8 months, slap you on the ass and tell you your a lineman. Big scam
@lakebing2759 Some of the schools will use a separate company that is an apprenticeship to at least get them through the first year so they are ready to jump on at an actual company. These schools typically cost more since going through an accredited apprenticeship through the labor board can be upto $5000 a year. Most line companies you work for will generally pay for your apprenticeship as u get on the job training.
@@acescape88 nope, but I’d like you to explain how you think school and a DOL apprenticeship works. I’d say you’re not even in the trade by your first post.

90%+ probably idk any white collar jobs offering triple time as well as 6 figures at 19

Congrats Brad now you’ll learn that climbing school and the field are not the same lol now clean them bins grunt
From what I've seen they go from being praised from graduating to being treated as a grunt and that doesn't rub well on many of these youngsters.
Nice job Brad!
Take care, stay safe.

Find an LLC that is willing to take you on as a groundman. You can get on the job training, while getting paid good money.
