I have bought many from rarewaves out of the UK. Great prices and one time it arrived damaged they quickly sent a replacement! Knowing your local store owner is great too. I asked mine about an Ozzy album I wanted. He said it was sold out....but then dipped into his own collection at the store, pulled out his copy...asked me what I wanted to pay...I said a price....he laughed and said that was the exact price he was thinking!
Been buying for many years from Rarewaves. Honestly the best customer service l have ever come across. As long as you are honest with them and provide photos of any issues they will always look after you.
I also use Rarewaves in fact I'm waiting on 2 CDs that I ordered from them to arrive. There prices were cheaper than here in America and free shipping!!!!
The best thing about amazon is their returns policy. Say a record arrives and disc one is warped. Request a replacement, they send it immediately, you can then mix and match the set with records and sleeves to get a perfect product. Quality control on records is abysmal right now and it usually takes a couple of attempts to get records and sleeves actually as new!
Yup... done that as well... only thing I've noticed is they cap the number of returns you can do... they kept sending me crap pressings of the last Ozzy album, but after the third return, they cut me off...
As someone who sells records online and at record shows, it never hurts to ask what's the best a seller can do pricewise. Record shows are great for whatever you are looking for and a great way to talk about music you like with others there.
The UDiscover 50% off sale is definitely the way to go. I must have bought about 10 albums with the discount. And it taught meat last on their titles, not to have FOMO which includes anything new The Beatles will be releasing this year
"True dat", AND when you are cashing out, the look on the person's face when you tell them you found this gem in the dollar bin. A priceless win-win, well maybe not priceless, a dollar in this case.
Amazon Warehouse tips: 1. Put it in your cart and wait. The price will drop about 50 cents per week. But you do risk someone snatching it up. 2. Click into the price options. There may be several resale options in various conditions. 3. Buy any condition unless the description explicitly describes marks on the disc. 4. If the purchase condition ends up too bad to keep, just return it. I tend to keep any sleeve condition as long as the disc plays well. Cheers!
Hi Frank! Trevor and Josh are great people. I had the pleasure of hosting them at our party in Boston last July. Cool shout outs to those gents! We’ve relocated to Buffalo with a work transfer so this year’s Vinyl Community bash will be in western NY at our new home in Buffalo on July 19th. All VC are welcome, and last year was a great success! I’m pushing to a trillion subscribers right now with a contest. Patty and I will announce the winner on Valentines Day. ✌️
13th way...take your chances playing "Danzig Roulette". 🤘👿 If you know, you know. If you don't know what this is, do a quick search for it in the vinyl subreddit (though I think a lot of the original posts were taken down).
Hello Frank, Hope you and yours are well. Another good segment, the email subscription idea is a winner, there were some good sales in Nov & Dec at some sites I subscribe to (Rhino, Acoustic Sounds &Sound of Vinyl). I'm headin' to Reddit and FB vinyl groups after submitting this comment 🙂 then I'll lurk on this thread looking for more great ideas from the Channel 33 RPM community. Thanks for what you do here, keep on spinnin'!
Great video Frank. Too many Amazon answers (the worst way to get records next to eBay), but some good ideas. I love the answer “Make friends with shop owners”. I did that and sadly the shop closed down during Covid. However the shop owner still buys and sells records/collections and has his garage set up like a record store. So I go there at least once a month to browse what he has. He also lets me know when he gets a record on my want list and gives me the first shot at buying it. They’re Always Near Mint inside and out too. Amazing finds. He always gives me killer deals as well. 👍
Goodwill and other thrift stores can be great for Blues/Jazz/Country. While you can be sure any common classic rock will be culled for online sale, I have found several Johnny Cash records, along with an early pressing of Time Out . Nothing crazy, but can save you some cash if you like those genres.
I long ago finished getting what I want in the area of Rock & Jazz, which have 99 percent of the cut-throat competition. I focus my energies on old country, pre-Beatles oldies and Sinatra school pop. If a stray Blue Note or classic rock name taps on my shoulder during the journey, swell. But I’m not shining my light there anymore.
I pay close, very close, attention to the barely-visible titles in pictures of mixed lots. Re: Goodwill... The upside of thrift finds is that they give new life to records which are unwanted - or bequeathed, then unwanted. The downside is imagining the ones they toss because the jacket has damage. No one tells Goodwill that the jackets all sound like crap.
Hi Frank. Record fairs in UK at least often have a stall selling overstocks often or usually from HMV. New vinyl for £5 each! Things I'd been interested in too
I stopped buying from Amazon a long time ago... Just try to track the original seller of the product, or distributor, almost always the price on the original seller website or band shop is lower
Here in the UK, every small town has a number of what we call 'charity' shops. I've had some basic business cards printed and what I do is pop in and speak to the manager at these stores and ask them to give me a call when they get vinyl in. I tell them I'll I'll have a look through and make sure they're not pricing everything up as 50p Mantovani records - and if they have something that's worth more, I'll pay them a fair price for it so that they don't miss out.
Ive got a friend who owns a record store, Ive known him for close to 30years, my daughter and her boyfriend buy records from him, he knew my parents, he’s a great friend, and I appreciate it when he gives me a discount, he has a great shop, and just a great friend, he’s been there for me and we always talk about family when ai go visit him. Sometimes we stop by just to say hello.
Hoping Universal brings the half priced deal back. That was nice to start the year. My go to deal has become to just buy it on CD or Blu-ray audio whenever possible.
Wife bough me two Kim Mitchel LPs off Amazon for Christmas and they ended up being the clipped/cut-out records. I didn't care too much but told her to send them back as she paid a pretty penny for them and seller probably paid $1 per for a box full.
All of my tips where mentioned. I just wanted to say it’s ok to buy from Amazon and the local shop. You never know what you can find, no matter where you look.🎸🎸🤘🤘
I had some good luck at Target recently. I found Joni Mitchell Blue, Bruce Springsteen's Greatest Hits vinyl on the clearance shelve for $17.00. Then there was Madonna The Immaculate Collection for $11.99. So look for any clearance shelves. Also B&N had a rack of albums for $20.99 includes some great titles like recent works by the Black Keys.
My only problem with ordering from amazon is the high percentage (around 20%) of mis shipments. It's crazy that it happens as often as it does in 2025.
Awesome Video as always Frank. I'm considering getting more records. I'd like to get Metallica , Heart , The Doors records along with the 1986 Soundtrack album Trick or Treat. I like to go to record store that have new & or used records to find vinyl. Anyway Great Job Frank & I will Keep on Spinning. 👍🏻🎵👍🏻
There's a biannual record convention in Pittsburgh up in West View that gets great attendance and I've come away with a lot of great deals. I don't know how popular those are anywhere else.
One problem with Amazon pre-orders (in Canada at least) is that Amazon does not always honor their initial price. Regularly Amazon accepts a pre-order at a great deal but then never sends it, even when it is listed in stock (at a higher price). I'm not certain how this happens, or why, and I have had no success with Amazon to force them to fulfill the order (they usually just cancel it... eventually). *really* pisses me off As its happened 5-6 times over the past 3 years, I assume its some glitch in their pre-order system.
( updated ) Urban Outfitters records are WAY over priced . BUT , sometime they go on sale at 40 to 50% Get on the mailing list or the App. Just today I received Orville Peck last double colored album . Regular price was a crazy 64$ . Got it for 23$ . Also the War on drugs, double colored Lost in the dream 10 th Anniversary - Reg price 54$ . Got it for 18$
One nice thing about Amazon pre-orders is that they don't charge you until the item ships. I've waited a long time for some pre-orders that were pre-paid and it sucks.
Amazon used to be a shtshow for vinyl, but in the last 4 years I haven’t run into any crappy mailers like I used to. And when I gamble on an Amazon Warehouse album and its super trashed, I get refunded. Of course its always best to pay a couple dollars more and support a local shop, but if you’re like me and only have ONE record store in your city that doesn’t have that great of a new selection, you do what you have to do. I also go to band webpages or record label pages to try to support that way.
Went to an estate sale about 5/6 years ago. They had the bottom doors open on the entertainment center showing all the albums. Flipped through them and found an album by Jim and Ingrid Croce (can't remember the title). I grabbed it and went through the rest of the sale. Before I left, I wanted to go back through the records to see if there was anything I missed or might want. I was told by the people handling the sale that someone bought the rest of the records shortly after I grabbed that one album. At least I got that one. Found a few more in the basement.
similar story in November, a guy was doing a record garage sales and it says "until 2pm" because at 2pm a guy was coming to get everything he had left. There were 1000-2000 I'd say... I was able to get a good dozen for $2 a piece Too bad, one was interested in had a different record inside the sleeve. Good time for a reminder: Always check it's the correct record inside the sleeve!
Amazon warehouse is awesome for deals. I managed 3 different box sets that range from $150 to $250 for each under $60. Brand new no marks, dents, etc as it mentions they might have.
I do exactly what some of your viewers stated, thrift strores, flea markets ect... Some of the flea markets around here have caught on to discogs but there is the odd dealer who will have a box of records in his booth and it's like oh yea those are 5 a piece. Scored a promo copy of Alice Coopers' trash for 5 bucks that way. I've been doing the same thing for almost 40 years and it's paid off
@Channel33RPM ill add it was gold stamped and had the press kit, that was a score of scores. I'll add one other thing, record shows are getting so miss and not hit. I collect alot of different genres but for my metal, the dealers are insane, 80..90 american for Tora Tora, Warrant ect, discogs has put a knife through collecting that stuff
Yeah... sucks but I've pretty much stopped going to record shows... crowded and few, if any deals. And you can buy from many of the sellers year round (outside of the shows) anyway.
Not sure if other towns do this. But once a month (always the last thursday here) our record store has a 25% off sale. So if you can hold out on something. That's the best time to go. Luckily this month they did that sale all week. And not like I got a lot, but the pile on the floor is slowly turning into The Blob. I'm currently looking at 2 shopping bags that I haven't even touched yet. One has maybe 30 CDs and the other has 60 45's in it. Then there is the box of DVDs with 50 or 60+ in it. And its like where am I gonna find the time to get through it all.
I've tried thrift stores and unless you want Barry Manilow or Nana Mouskouri there's not much there, I find the prices on Facebook Marketplace at least around here are higher than the record stores and of course they don't indicate the quality of the albums. Record stores for me are still the best option.
And...........as I stated on one of your last videos, unless you need it right now,, you can buy direct from the Universal Music Group at one of their online stores, The Sound of Vinyl and UDiscover Music, who often have sitewide sales up to 50% off. In last December through January 6th, it was 50% off! What's wrong with buying the Beatles Capitol mono LP's for 14.99 each, and the shipping is free?
I sell new records on ebay and amazon. Most of my preowned ones i sell at the swap meet. Build a friendship with the vendors. I always hook up the people ive made friendships with
I have an episode almost ready to go... I just need a 'headliner' music room to finish the vid. Hoping something comes in soon.... (submissions have been slower than usual).
I'm always looking for ways to save a buck or two. During Christmas time I bought like four Christmas records. At least a hundred dollars. My problem is taking the time to listen to what I've bought. I always have grand intentions. Hahaha, my collection is getting larger, my listening time is getting smaller.
All of the thrift opportunities have disappeared where I live. If you want scratched Vic Damone for $1-$3, we go you covered. FOMO backfired. I wanted something but shipping from GERMANY was ick. Then the records 2x in price because I waited.
Just got home from a local monthly record show. Lots of sellers, picked up some solid deals. Unfortunately I'm a sucker for "Limited Editions" and "Numbered" releases. I like to collect limited editions, promos, etc. Don't purchase a lot of new releases anymore. I'm kinda done with the whole RSD hype and prices on new releases is just out of hand.
In the NYC area at least, thrifting for records is dead. Dealers have handshake agreements with managers and low-life resellers hawk anything worth buying to resell at shops or on eBay.
i aggre about looking thru internet. Im not a big collector, but i spent 50 dollars so far for my collection. And it already is worth 90-100 dollars. And sometimes u get so random out of place offers that makes you say "How is this even here??????"
I realize this can be an expensive hobby. With that I know I can hear most everything on streaming services. So if I really have to listen to an album but won't pay the price, I'll stream it or get a CD. Eventually, I hope to find a vinyl copy at a reasonable price. This way, I set a (current) limit of $30 tops, with the occasional higher price for something I might think is worth it. The most I have spent for an album is $54+ tax, and that was a MoFi copy. Another thing I do is "average pricing". If I spend more than $30 on one album, I try to find a cheaper one to balance it out. I usually shop with a $100 max if I go to stores. If I buy a $40 album with say 4 others for $60, than that's $20 per (so I tell myself). Oh, and most importantly, I only buy what I think I will listen to. Sometimes I buy stuff from bands I like that aren't any good. But that is the chance I'm willing to take.
For me frank, it comes down to sqwattin' down and investigating the bottom shelves of the walls of records, at all of the ocassional estate sales and thrift stores/garage sales i hit after hockey n band. i'm a geezer/gerryHatrick goalie in hockey, lacrosse, futbol and celtic Hurling/GAA Football. + i curl and catch baseball. most Sheep-iLL here in the now; U$$@, are way too puggin lazy to do so. today for example i found some grade A ; Chili's, Trane,Crimso, Dolphy, Specials, Bad Brains Bad Manners, Rick Wakeman National Health, Skatalites Orig Vinyl!!! Slayer,Lighthouse, Stooges n Eddie Cocrane, just oname a few.most of the stuff on the eye level shelves, are Religious, Non cool Lounge, or easy listening, or scratched to shite. Cheers from SpoCanada, in the Now One Potty $$$tate, the; U$$@. Go Jets
I'm very selective buying record albums during the year, I now save my extra money for end of year sales online. Spent over $400+ at end of 2024 at 50% off , best time of the year to buy.
Frank, I know this may sound cynical. But the lucky finds I found were at the thrift shop. And they were by mere chance. ST "Romeo and Juliet" (1968) , ST "Oliver Twist" (1968) , ST "Saturday Night Fever" (1977) , "Mickey Mouse Disco" (1979) , "Cats" (1983) And the 5 HONORABLE MENTIONS "Men of the Mall" (1959) (Marching Band) , JUDY COLLINS "Recollections" (1972) MONKEES "Best Of" (1976) RITA COOLIDGE "Love Me Again" (1978) , ST "Arthur" (1981) .
Hey Frank, I love the show but I just didn't see any mention of record shows. Do they not have record shows in Canada like they do in the states every quarter? They usually have a VFW Hall that just has a bunch of dealers. I find humongously great deals at record shows.
Rarewaves are brilliant.
Rarewaves... I forgot to mention them. They have some good deals and great customer service.
I found 90% of my records at thrift stores, garage sales, and estate sales. I rarely buy brand new records.

Good advice!
Thanks for the Amazon Warehouse tip Frank. Many of us overlook this feature when shopping.
Glad it was helpful!
The UDiscover 50% off sale is definitely the way to go. I must have bought about 10 albums with the discount. And it taught meat last on their titles, not to have FOMO which includes anything new The Beatles will be releasing this year
Great video Frank. Solid tips from the community 🙌
Thanks - glad you liked it!
Ebay stores will have discounts on multiple records purchased at the same time and will do combined shipping prices.
Yep
At least in the US, it is now "Amazon Resale", not Warehouse.
Too bad... warehouse sounds better. I just noticed a similar change here.
Sometimes, a good title in fine condition can be found in the dollar bins.
"True dat", AND when you are cashing out, the look on the person's face when you tell them you found this gem in the dollar bin. A priceless win-win, well maybe not priceless, a dollar in this case.
Absolutely!
Amazon Warehouse tips:
Sounds like a great party - good luck with the contest!
Awesome video! I really enjoyed and learned from this one
Thanks Matt.
I’m glad there aren’t any records I want anymore. Hit up 4 places out here in Kansas City today and it’s pretty ridiculous.
13th way...take your chances playing "Danzig Roulette". 🤘👿 If you know, you know. If you don't know what this is, do a quick search for it in the vinyl subreddit (though I think a lot of the original posts were taken down).

Nice haul!
FOMO has gotten me so many times. 😂
Awesome
Flea markets are my jam.
Thrift stores near me have been charging a premium, too - and it’s the same selection of sub-par, beat-up albums they’re selling, too. Unfortunate.
I try to buy cheap and used. Not too many new lps, but every now and then, ill buy new, but only if i like the music. I get deals anyway i can.

The 5 and 10 dollar bins at your record shops. Support local economy. Dig for treasures, just inspect the records before buying
Records are too high glad I don’t need any more. Had my collection for 50 years.
I sell new records on ebay and amazon. Most of my preowned ones i sell at the swap meet. Build a friendship with the vendors. I always hook up the people ive made friendships with
We miss Vinyl Dens!
I hear ya.... it's easy to get behind in your listening.
An Estate Sale is where I got my vintage Discwasher Brush set. Just $1.00 U.S.
Great score. My favorite record brush.
Cheap vanilla, I love cheap vanilla !! 😂😂😂😂😂
All of the thrift opportunities have disappeared where I live. If you want scratched Vic Damone for $1-$3, we go you covered. FOMO backfired. I wanted something but shipping from GERMANY was ick. Then the records 2x in price because I waited.
I've found some really great records at Antique stores and the prices are cheap.
Invincible Shield by Judas priest, the one with the extra 7 inch, has tripled in price. Waiting is not the way to go all the time. It depends
i aggre about looking thru internet.
Go Jets
Go Jets! And great pickups, BTW.
Whatnot auctions…. If you know your prices.
Find someone who's having their collection stolen . Maybe they'll send you stuff, to get them out of the country .
Away from the Vinyl thieves
I'm very selective buying record albums during the year, I now save my extra money for end of year sales online.
Spent over $400+ at end of 2024 at 50% off , best time of the year to buy.
Good strategy!
I haven't bought vinyl in months can't afford it
I’ve quit buying on Amazon. Not funding the oligarchy. Local stores get my business.
I Dig Your Videos 😁😃 My Number 1 Tip 4 Lp Hunting @ Estate & Garage Sales. Never Pay More Than a 🦌 Buck 😁
Thanks - good tip!
I use Camelcamelcamel too (probably heard it from you years ago, not sure), and I have saved tons that way. Just add to list and wait.
So easy.... and a money saver...
Hey Frank, I love the show but I just didn't see any mention of record shows. Do they not have record shows in Canada like they do in the states every quarter? They usually have a VFW Hall that just has a bunch of dealers. I find humongously great deals at record shows.
Oh yeah, lots of record shows.
