- A playthrough of Data East's 1990 NES game, Caveman Games.
Played through all of the games as Gronk.
Caveman Games is an "olympics" style game, like Track & Field, California Games, Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular! or Crash 'n' the Boys Street Challenge, in that it presents you with several events - think Mario Party-like minigames - each presenting you with a unique challenge. After all six games have been finished, the results are tallied and a champion is crowned.
Unlike the more "serious" multiplayer/multi-game competition titles on the NES, though, Caveman Games relies on its sense of humor as much as it does anything else, and it pulls it off nicely. It's a port of Dynamix' popular 1988 PC title (Caveman Ugh-lympics), and the graphics hold up nicely with the large cartoony sprites with some pretty hilarious animations. I'm a huge fan of the mate-toss, especially because of that funky chicken dance your "mate" does if you throw her far enough.
If you liked Track & Field, you'll like this fine. There isn't much new to see here, but it's all solid and pretty amusing with a couple of friends gathered for a round or two.
I would've loved to have seen a spin-off with Joe & Mac like this, especially since Data East handled the NES version!

This was one of my favorite games as a kid. Awesome 2 player game, beat each other with clubs and throw each other to the sabertooth.

There's not a lot to Caveman Games, but if you're a fan of Snoopy Sports or Track & Field, you'll probably have a lot of fun with it.

I play mate toss with my gf. We don't have caveman games though.
I'd say this was how the strongest passed on their genes, but hitting the rocks probably killed their chances. Haha!

Just played this tonight with my kid and they said that it reminded them of the google game.

I couldn't have been more than 8 years old when this was rented for me by my mom and it was the first of a very small handful of times, even at that age, that I was embarrassed to be playing a video game. I couldn't get it out of my house fast enough. Watching this now, seeing it for the first in over 30 years, I have to hand it to em. They really made the most of and committed to this ridiculous theme and it's actually really funny (at a time when games rarely ever tried to be) in a natural way so, so many games, especially indies, today try way, way, WAY too hard to be. I'm sorry my 2nd grade self dismissed it!

Nintendo Power made this seem way cooler than the gameplay actually looks.

I had it on Commodore 64, which was a better port than the NES. I think it was actually called “Caveman Ugh-lympics” but it was the same game.

Dana Long It was Developed by Ocean (I guess), and the Music (of this Version) was Composed by Keith Tinman and Jonathan Dunn.
Oswald Epic Loquendero It was developed internally by Data East USA, the company's NA dev studio.
NintendoComplete Really, its looks, sounds, and even Plays so Awful for a Data East (With the Exeception of Karate Champ)
