This is one of three “Vivaldi Clarinet Concerti” created for the incredible Swedish clarinet soloist Martin Fröst by Andreas N Tarkmann.
    Tarkmann writes of the piece:
“The present Concerto no.1 in B Flat Major is written in three movements and refers in the additional title “Sant’Angelo” to the Teatro Sant Angelo of the same name, directed by Vivaldi himself for some time. In 1734, the Teatro experienced the premiere of his opera “L’Olympiade”, from which two arias were taken as arrangements in this concerto. The vibrant outer movements in Concerto no.1, which are characterized by decidedly virtuoso figurative work, frame as a slow second movement a particularly cantabile hymn of praise to the healing effect of sleep."
