Proof? Here. The core reason why this song to you guys sounds really good is because of Charlie's amazing song writing and also because he uses lots of Minor and Major ii - v - i ( 2 - 5 - 1 ) chord progression, sometimes refers to "the meat and potato of Jazz", this type of chord progression is very useful when it comes to making the song feels like it has an ending or making the song feels like it keeps on moving ( here is a video that explained this a bit more deeper about the ii - v - i chord progression ), when applying the ii - v - i chord progression to put an ending, it makes the ending extreme smooth because of the strong tension of that ii chord follow by the v chord drags you in and its telling you that the song is about to come to an end in the smoothest way. You might be wondering: "Well if the ii - v - i only work as an ending then why you call it a chord progression?" WELL, the ii - v - i can absolutely be use as chord progression, you can loop it forever, why? well its because of the nice contrast between tension and release of the ii,v and the i in the progression ( thats why you often find this progression extremely popular in lofi ). "ok so you can use it as an ending to the song, a chord progression,... what else can you use it for?", glad you're still reading, you can use as a key changing tool, basically you can play the ii - v - i chord progression on different keys alternately without it sounding weird and unpleasant to you, or somethnig you can just put a v chord in front of the i chord of the key you're gonna change to if you don't wanna use the full ii - v. Anyways, there are many many many ways of using this progression but if you can, you can grab a guitar or a piano and learn the progression yourself. I've been teaching myself piano recently so have been learning about chord progressions and the 2 5 1 is indeed extremely common and now that I know what it is I can hear it in A LOT of songs. It's one of my favourites and can easily listen to it on loop, especially going through different keys. 😍 I'm not the kind of person who can instantly call out the names of notes (I'm getting better at it but still not professional standard), but I can play by ear, so I can work it out pretty quickly, it's just not instantaneous. But thank you for laying the notes out because now if I want to have a go that will help me.👍🏾👍🏾 I just think you could have been kinder in your initial comment. Not everyone is a top class musician, and music affects people in different ways. I get very emotional with music and I'm also super repetitive with songs I like. Sometimes I'll repeat sections over and over, just because of the way it made me feel. I didn't say the pianist played THE lick...
