The excitement isn't there anymore like it was back in the 80's. We actually had magazines with real paper in them that we all bought and drooled over over and over again...looking at all the cool boards and sails coming out. Now its just not as cool and exciting. I met Robby Naish in 1986 in San Francisco at the World Cup event, he was way cool and I talked to him while he was rigging his sails. The new guys are amazing but the energy I feel is different now. Robby is still King of the waves!!!
You can pick gear up from this era and later for almost no money on eBay. We had real fun on that stuff back then so why wouldn't it be fun today.... Only if you've been spoilt by hi tech gear but if you just want to learn and have fun go and pick up a bargain to start with Instead of spending £1500

5 kitesurfers came by here and concluded that even back then windsurfing was cooler :-)
