What happened was a lot of people were doing the same unentertaining content and it made the landscape very bland. And when people finally went against the norm and stood out, consumers flocked to that person as they have something they can't currently get anywhere else. Then simpler creators ultimately copy that style until that new style becomes bland and old.
Not saying Mr. Beast didn't change youtube, but moreso the consumers the people actually watching youtubers did by seeking more entertaining things.
I remember watching a video of Casey Neistat interviewing Jimmy during the peak of his daily vlogs. Looking back now it felt like this changing of the guard from Casey’s perspective of UA-cam being for the creative sake to Jimmy’s being fully business and pursuit of clicks. It’s two different mindsets that show UA-cam’s evolution as a platform. The only downside of Jimmy’s style is that it essentially became the only style of you wanted to get lots of views. And sometimes lacks on the heart and soul. Long term this might affect his channel as he attempts to try and top what he’s done previously.
Bloopy takes common dub
Technically speaking UA-cam Movies does not count as a real channel as they have no views or videos of their own and it is simply a hosting channel for other people’s content. If you count these “fake” channels. Then Pewdiepie was only number 1 for less than 3 months. So MrBeast is the second-most subscribed channel on UA-cam. Also, even if you count UA-cam Movies. MrBeast will pass them by the end of this month anyways.
