It's so important Andrew that you continue with the message about food production. You are spot on with your analysis that trade deals do nothing for agriculture in this country and is not a guarantee of a satisfactory supply of quality foodstuffs for our national consumption. Keep it up, well done.

Andrew, well i received your share of the rain last friday night. So much so that we had to empty the grain store and dry the bottom 3-6 inches of grain. Weather forecasting, a bit of a dark art. thanks Andrew.

This is why I like watching your video's, you explain things so well. I will agree they would rather do trade deals, than support the British farmers. The RX is making easy work of pulling the solo, with a few dry days that will break down nicely to a nice seed bed for the next crop .

I’ve lived in South Lincolnshire all my life and I’m learning so much about the farming I witness by watching these videos, so thank you for that!……………I don’t suppose I’m supposed to understand the thinking and policies of UK government when it comes to the best and most appropriate use of good fertile arable land but I guess it is probably the nett result of allowing idiots to make decisions.
As an aside…………’when I were a lad’ we used to go bean pulling in the summer holidays. Use to go into a big hessian sack (can’t remember the weight) which we used to get 10p for……….I though I’d done really well when I earned £1 in a day!!

Folks forecasting doesn't use magic. Forecasting organisations like Met Office and ECMWF use collections of models that are frequently re-initialised using real-world weather reports and regularly re-run. The required compute power is enormous. The 5-day forecast now is as accurate as the 48 hour forecast was a few years ago. I agree that the forecast has been inaccurate recently, but remember "Climate is what you expect. Weather is what you get." The models are developed over years by comparing weather observations with the weather forecast, and improved using a range of techniques. As climate changes, the weather we get will change, and the models will, for a time, become less performant. So, we need to adapt to this. The work that Warwick Uni is doing is a part of it. Business planning and risk management is another. Blaming the Meteorologists might make you feel better, but the criticism is misplaced.

The stewardship scheme must be presenting such a dilemma. Presumably, protecting the diversity and proliferation of wildlife, especially pollinators, has to be a vitally important factor in managing our agricultural assets? But as you say, that limits our abilities to be self-sufficient in terms of food production - which considering the impacts of the situation in Ukraine should be ever more prevalent in our national agricultural strategy. Then when you add in the iniquity of our regulations on chemical use and environmental restrictions versus foreign competitors, with the implications on price competitiveness, it's a wonder the whole Farming community doesn't "pack it all in "! Your videos deserve a far wider audience, so that the realities of government policy are subject to far greater scrutiny, challenge and modification.

I have no confidence in the competency of the UK politicians and civil servants. A simple example, 45-years ago I wanted to take my driving test. It was very hard then to get a test slot. Today it is exactly the same. Nothing has improved in 45-years. Applying that to farming I am most alarmed that farmland is being taken out of production to provide food for wild birds. I enjoy seeing wild birds but where is the evidence that this has all been carefully thought through? I doubt it.
Food security is important to me, and should be to the Government. Please go in to more depth on the issue of farmers being asked to stop farming and become wild bird keepers.
Great videos I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to making them.

The Stewardship Scheme doesn't make any sense for the reasons you state and compounded by the Ukraine Conflict. It really does beg the question if Ministers understand the bigger picture. I guess you watch Harry's Farm where in the Cotswolds there have had a bad OSR harvest. Large acreages could be given over to various Stewardship Schemes. I hope that in a couple of years time they will realise the errors they have made. Farms though can't ramp up production or change their "products" on a whim so it will take a further year or to to get us back on track.
