It’s stupid how they built this, they should’ve left room for the metro to be able to continue into a dive (to a tunnel) to go to Liverpool and Bradfield
Did they design this metro line as something that forever terminates here? Or did they design the metro line as something that can be extended in the future? It looks like the metro and the heavy rail lines converge on the same alignment, facing each other. It seems like it would be difficult to extend the metro line underground in a different direction, as that heavy rail line is sitting right in front of it. They'd have to close the heavy rail to extend the metro, which doesn't make sense, as the metro might need to go to a different place to where the heavy rail goes. A shopping centre in between them doesn't make sense either.
Are you kidding!! You have been so helpful. I had no understanding what was going on there. In a few minutes you eloquently explained all I needed to know. I haven't caught a train for a while, so can you imagine when I do and it's all different...it would be something like the twilight zone. Do you happen to have any more info or links as to why/ what will they change/ achieve with this new venture? It's interesting because it was once a very busy train station. I'm also interested in knowing if there will there be the same amount of people passing through there. Will there be more? I mean, 4 cars from Bankstown to Lidcombe isn't much;...but then I don't know at what frequency the trains will be moving back and fro. You mentioned a connection to Castle Hill, wow! Anyway, I look forward to more news, stories, interesting facts from you; things are really changing...thank YOU.
Won't this make it difficult to extend the Metro to Liverpool in the future? And how many millions of dollars will it have cost? It should have been thought out better.
The Bankstown line will no longer be able to be used if major issue on the western line. A loss of over 20000 seats per day on the Bankstown line also no improvement in travel time from Bankstown to the city in peak hour. Major waste of money.
Why not just complete the loop through to at least Regents Park if not Lidcombe. Most of the retrofit was the platform auto glass walls/doors. There are too many transport gaps in Sydney. Effectively they are cutting off most of the City of Bankstown from its main station. But who cares? These are just "Westies" not your latté sipping inner city influencers. They have missed out on a huge area of potential real estate improvement.
In several respects, it might have been better to have located the Metro platforms to the east of the notoriously low road underpass . This would allow the removal of the bridge altogether and left the existing station in tact . Doing this, however would place the new station slightly further away from the Bankstown CBD , and another consideration would be land availability . On a different railway related note , I have just discovered the reconstructed signal box at Chatswood Station in Orchard Ave . Although I am quite familiar with the area , it was only because I arrived there by bus for the first time in my life that I noticed it from the bus interchange . This actually won an award from Willoughby Council .
an utter and complete waste of taxpayer dollars - this metro is just utterly pointless !! Billions being spent to convert - when the dollars could have been invested in new lines - instead of this stupidity.

This channel is way more reliable than government sites with info

how many sets 4 cars trains does it take to run that 15-20 minutes interval between Bankstown and Lidcombe? 3 or 4?
If you guys Are ever around Mittagong there Are so much history to cover please do a vid on ths place
Why not just keep the full length of all stations but make the plaza at bankstown pushed back a bit?

Ah, so that’s why Bankstown station was “cut in half.”
Real pain to get work

Sad seeing all these old train stations being demolished, old is gold...
Haha! Not always...
You can't be an oldie if you don't appreciate old buildings..
